Product details

The mesh material of the backrest lets air through, which is extra nice when a match drags on.

This chair gives your arms a comfortable support and reduces tension in your neck and shoulders since the padded armrests can be adjusted upwards/downwards, forwards/backwards and inwards.

The armrests are attached to the backrest, so they recline together with the backrest to provide support for various activities like when you’re playing on your phone.

You sit comfortably since the chair is adjustable in height.

The synchronized seat and back tilt follows your body movements and adjusts the chair to the correct position.

The design of the high backrest gives your body, neck and head a sturdy and comfortable support.

You can adjust the height of the headrest to give your neck a nice support when playing – and when you want to relax between matches.

Your back gets the support it needs because the seat depth can be adjusted.

You can adjust the lumbar support to suit you and your needs.

The safety casters have a pressure-sensitive brake mechanism that keeps the chair in place when you stand up, and releases automatically when you sit down.

The base contributes to both movement and stability – and works as a footrest too.

Gaming chairPatrickI'm very happy with this purchase. Every time I walk into the room where the chair suits, I'm impressed with the styled lines of this chair. I have some executive leather chairs at my desks, but this one stands out the most. I don't know much about Swedish design but this chair looks very sleek and artistic. I had a hard time deciding on the color, but I eventually decided with the red and grey. I really like the comfort I feel when I sit down on it. You will too!5
LOVE it!AnnBought for my office & love it more than the bulky leather chair I had previously! The seat can be adjusted to allow for longer legs, so it really has been great with all of the adjustable features. Once all set, it has been PERFECT!5
Good chair, but..Clyle910I like the chair itself for the price i paid, but one of my chair arms had a misaligned screw hole and didn't seem to fit the screws provided. So this is a huge issue as i either have to have a loose chair arm barely hanging on or only one chair arm.2
Very comfortable office chsirThomasI know that this chair is advertise as a gaming chair, but I use it as my office chair as it is perfectly comfortable. The curve fits my back perfectly and really doesn’t allow for slouching when you fully sit back in the chair. This, in combination with a sit-stand desk is much better for the body than just sitting in a big cushy chair all day, waiting for your body to wither away. This old man LOVES this chair.5
almost wonderfulMichaelthere's a lot to love about this chair, its ergonomic, relatively comfortable, and has lots of adjustment. As others have mentioned, these "locking" casters are maddening, they lock when there's no weight in the chair, making it really annoying to push back under the desk, and tbh, I weigh about 150 lbs and even seated, the wheels don't really feel like they unlock and roll all that well. There are limited "stops" on the back angle adjust, making each setting quite different, and for me at least, I feel like the "sweet spot" is right in between 2 of the positions which is a little frustrating, but my posture has certainly improved as a result. But, all in all, 6 months later, I'm still enjoying this chair far, far more than the one it replaced. I just wish for the relatively high price, it had more granular adjustments, and "nice" wheels, as I will be spending even more to replace these silly wheels with normal ones.4
Okay, but Problem with Arm restsMaxwellThis chair lasted me about 2 and a half years while working from home. This is not terrible value for a mid-priced chair, but not good either. The reason why I'm getting rid of it is because the arm rests are covered by a very thin coat of either cheap plastic or rubber which I inadvertently picked at with my fingers while working from home. Over time, the plastic of the arm rest came completely off - revealing the cotton which pads it underneath. Eventually that cotton fell off as well. I was unable to receive a replacement for this padding since you need to replace the whole armrest and they don't allow you to purchase individual parts. If you're going to buy this chair, be really delicate with the armrests as you can tear into them easily.4
Good but not great, poor headrest designJamesThe chair itself is comfortable provided you know what you're choosing with this: it's a mesh chair with safety casters that lock without weight pushing down on them. If the casters bug you, they're easy enough to swap out with an aftermarket purchase. But, they can also be useful for situations where you have hard floors that are just uneven enough that the chair may roll on its own without safety casters. The biggest problem is the design of the headrest. The bar of the headrest fits into a square plastic clamshell that is held together with pointed metal screws going into plastic threads. The headrest's bar is held in place by two rubber O rings stacked atop each other to let you adjust it via tension/friction holding the bar in place. Over time pressure on the headrest pulls the metal screws out of the plastic threads. I now have to tighten the clamshell screws on the headrest about once a month. I'm past the 180 day window, so it is what it is.3

Decent chairBrianDecent chair, comfy. BUT… I leaned back in it, now it won’t release to come forward…. Trying to figure out why…3
looks great, very adjustable, casters SUCKStephanienot sure why someone decided to have the casters freeze when no one is sitting in the chair, totally bizarre design choice. If you want to push your chair under your desk, or move it aside to vacuum, good luck. 3
Overall, very good for the price pointDavidzero issues, for price point with metal build it's very good5
CarefulNickThis chair gives me mixed feelings. I used the chair for about 18 months daily before my back finally gave up and I bought a new chair. The chair is quality. The materials are solid. The mesh material never showed any signs of wear. So, if you are concerned about build quality, you need not worry about that with this chair. However, over the past year and a half I would, seemingly out of random, experience debilitating lower back pain. I wasn't sure what the source of the issue was, until I simply tried a new chair for a day. The chair is not very adaptive. The seat is nothing like a bucket. If anything, it always felt like I was sliding forward, off of the chair. After 4-6 hours of use, you'll also wish the seat has a bit of give. As mentioned, the mesh material never loosened. All this results in a breathable, quality chair, that destroyed my lower back. The seat and lumber support combination seriously had me considering a chiropractor. YMMV. Wish I had identified it sooner.3
Too bad about the locking wheelsLindaThis chair is comfortable and adjustable. I use it for work and I cannot push the chair under my desk to get it out of the way. why? The ridiculous locking wheels! So here I am with a $350+ chair with the need to spend another $30-50 on wheels. Bummer. But otherwise a good work chair for my back.3
Gaming chairAnonymous reviewerMy son loves this chair! Says it’s very comfortable and loves that he can recline the chair and lock it in place. It’s pretty customizable for different body types.5
Super confortableMariaIt's exactly what I needed, truly recommended5
Is this even a chair?Anonymous reviewerThis is the worst chair I've ever sat in. It not uncomfortable as much as it feels like it is trying to throw you on the floor. Was it designed for humans? It baffles me how yall coudl put out a chair that is so shockingly hard to sit in. Its not just and OK chair it is a catastrophe of a chair! Did no one sit it first? 1
Exceeded my expectations. MichelleI would sit on the display chair every time I visited IKEA until one day I decided to take it home. Assembling it was suspiciously easy, aside from the headrest. I've used it for a week and I have no complaints. I love how adjustable it is on so many parts of the chair and the recline is just perfect. My husband who has sat in a variety of gaming chairs frequently compliments how nice this chair is compared to others at a similar price point. For reference, I'm a short person at 5' tall and have had difficulties finding chairs that didn't feel right for my frame.5
Love it!!!JeannineLove the chair so comfortable and very adjustable 5
Headset is awful to installMylesChair feels pretty good to sit in, however the locking wheels are a pain. ALSO, installing the headrest is impossible. It feels like it was not designed to be installed. 2
The head rest needs to be taken off and tightened every few days!Anonymous reviewerGood otherwise. I deleted all the good things I had to say due to the 999 char limit. The major design flaw with this chair is the headrest attachment "box-assembly". After adjusting the headrest up and down about 10-15 times (I adjust it a few times a day, maybe once when I sit up for working, and once when I recline) it becomes loose and the headrest wobbles back and forth. The "box" has 4 flathead phillips screws that go directly into plastic (bad). These constantly come loose. The designers of the chair should have made the 4 mount screws independent of the adjustment resistance. Tighten too much and the headrest can't move. Or strips the plastic. Tighten too little and they loosen even faster. Just add 1 more fastener to squish the little rubber things and make it into a metal insert or at least tight-enable from the back??? Also, please STOP including the silly wheel brakes. Or allow us to opt-out when ordering! 1/5 assembly for wheel brake removal4

Accessories for STYRSPEL

STYRSPEL Gaming chair, blue/light gray

Level up with the right hardware

Gaming is a profession for thousands of people and a hobby for millions. One thing that unites gamers worldwide is the love of esports and the challenges on the screen. And if we’re honest, sometimes very long sittings and sore muscles. With STYRSPEL you can fine-tune your posture and get the edge you need to comfortably reach new levels and a new personal best.

“Even if you’re not a gamer yourself, you probably know someone who is; there’s one in almost every family constellation,” says product developer Ola Kristensson. “Many gaming chairs on the market look like racing chairs, but we wanted to do something different, that breathes IKEA, with everything that entails.”

Loaded with function and comfort

“With STYRSPEL you get a look and functions we feel are missing in conventional gaming chairs,” he says. The backrest and the extra wide seat are compatible with everyone who appreciate comfort by the screen, and who doesn’t? “We’re using a strong mesh fabric instead of padding. It gives a pleasant cooling effect if you sit for many hours and feels softer compared to other mesh fabrics on the market. We have also tried to make it intuitive to understand how to adjust the chair so you easily can get a comfortable position, no matter how you prefer to sit or what body type you have.”

Adjust according to your game

STYRSPEL has other functions especially developed for gamers, but which others also can appreciate, like the pivoting armrests. “It’s because you want different distances between your elbows depending on if you play on a console, computer or mobile. With STYRSPEL you can fine-tune your posture and sit relaxed, regardless of what device you play on.” It’s a chair with several features that can contribute to higher scores and better gaming experiences. And that’s also good news for anyone who lives with a gamer and maybe needs to borrow a comfortable chair every now and then.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

“The idea with STYRSPEL was to design a dedicated chair for gaming – and at the same time take advantage of the extensive home furnishing knowledge that IKEA has. It had to be good-looking yet have all the necessary features and ergonomics needed when a match drags on for hours and hours. The inspiration for the design comes from the wire-frame models often used in 3D computer graphics. I hope that gamers of all ages will love this chair and want to use it for many years."
