Do not buy this if your mattress is not from IKEAHollyWe bought, transported and assembled this "full" size bed and all its pieces, only to find that the full size mattress we had bought elsewhere was too large. Upon calling IKEA, we were told this bed is designed to fit THEIR full size mattress, which is smaller than a standard full size mattress. We had to take the bed apart, transport it back to IKEA and return it. A huge hassle and very frustrating.1
Squeaky and loudBrookeBought this bed a year ago and took it apart to move and now it’s so loud and squeaks at every little movement. Won’t buy again. 1
Creaky, squeaky, noisy disasterHollyThe bed is sturdy enough. But it is so noisy. It creaks. It squeaks. We took it apart, and added bumpers to keep the wood from rubbing together. I put non-slip carpet padding in between Every. Single. Slat. We put felt feet on all the parts of the frame that touch the floor. Nothing helped. It just gets creakier and creakier. My dog is afraid of the bed now. So dumb. 1
NiceLoriVery nice looking bed frame. Perfect for our guest room.5
Literally horribleKaitlynIf you want to go crazy from the incessant high pitched squeaking from the tiniest movement then this bed is for you! Save your money and sanity and get a different bed.1
Easy to assemble. ComfortableChristineEasy to assemble. Comfortable5
I loved it when I first got it.PaigeI’ve had the Malm bed frame for 2 years now. It was an easy process to put up, sure, but with one person it did take me several hours. The smaller support beams that other reviews have stated, they never did successfully stay in due to that no matter what you do- it’s just not threaded correctly. Other than that, after having this for 2 years it’s on my list to get a new bed frame yet again. I didn’t even expect to have it this long since it’s veneer and not even solid wood.. which I wish I would have known and looked more into before purchasing. For a shear of $400 for a queen bed frame. Put the extra $ in, and actually invest into getting a solid wood bed frame that’ll last you more time. :)1
Bed FrameStevenThis bed frame is great. It's sturdy and fits perfectly in my room5
My daughter wanted this bed and against my wishes after reading all the 1 star reviews I decided I could make the bed better.SteveMost negative reviews seemed to hate the wood slats and the headboard was not stable. My plan was to avoid those problems. I didn’t buy the $50 wood slats. What I did do was buy a 2”x2”x4’ board and cut 2 pieces about 10.5” to add support to the middle frame. There’s already holes in the beam, so just the wood pieces and a couple screws, washers give the bed much more support in the center. I bought three straight 8” mending plates and screwed them to the back of the headboard to give more support. The headboard is super light and made of a material like thick cardboard. Simply hand screw the brackets into the back. Finally I bought seven 1”x6”x5’ boards to place across the bed from side to side resting on the center metal beam and the side boards. That gave the mattress plenty of support. In total I spent about $80 to make the bed sturdy. Maybe Malm will update their beds in the future to improve it. With my modifications it took 3 hrs to build. I give the bed 5 stars AFTER my mods.5
Mainly good- looks good - assembly a little strangeBijanIt looks very good. Even in the high position though, I think there's an occasional bump on the frame when getting in/out. The main challenge was following the directions leads to loose slats. By sheer luck or divine intervention, we picked up these 2 rails not in the instructions but seemed to have P/Ns that match Malm. These were outer caps that keep the slats aligned. It was undocumented, so was silly hard to put them together functionally correctly, (You do a dance of getting some slats in but others come out etc...) but with the help of my engineering student we were successful. The end to end time was 3+ hours! It's good now.4
One week and base has come apartFairyI have plenty of ikea furniture but this one is a disgrace. My daughter sleeps on it and it came apart after 2 weeks of sleeping on it1
Held up sorta ok over >20 years, thanks to the mattress height optionMartinBought the low Malm in King size over 20 years ago when we added on to our home. It looks good. We already had a box spring and mattress so we used those without the slats. I installed the rails in the lower position, but after maybe 10 years the screws holding one of the side rails in position popped out of the particle board. I reinstalled them in the higher position shown on Step 8 of the assembly instructions, where they have held since. My actual biggest complaint is that I have stubbed a toe or cracked a shin on the sharp corners a dozen times, and it hurts like hell. I'm clumsy though, so take that with a grain of salt. This thing is heavy and solid. We haven't heard a single noise out of it. Maybe the occasional single pop when we're moving it, but it's totally quiet otherwise. Might be because I didn't use the slats.3
Settled and dislike itVeronicaMy husband and I shopped for this bed together. He didn’t like the ones I did, and I was not too fond of the ones he liked, but we agreed to disagree on the Malm. I dislike this bed frame because it marks easily. I dislike it because no matter the height setting for the mattress, it pinched the thighs getting out of bed (between the frame and mattress). I didn’t like it because it had more support assembly parts than our King-sized Nasttun frame. I dislike it because it is difficult to disassemble when you want to move it to another room or in a military move. (Specifically the large cam locks. They are a pain to undo.) And I disliked it because the frame felt too blocky. This frame is just not for me. Did it work? Yes. We had multiple guests stay on it without complaint. Is it a good value? Yes. Would I buy it again? No.3
SlatsSunasiaWhile for the first few months of sleeping on this bed frame everything was good and then all the slats started to fall through and break. The support beams underneath the center beam have curved and are about to break themselves. It is also hard to find replacement parts for the frame also.2
GreatStevenI think the product is great5
Fell apartIreneJust bought this last year and it fell apart. So upset!!1
Bed will eventually attempt to kill you in your sleep.ZachPoor quality overall. The slats will make random noises. There is nothing you can do to stop the slats from sliding and slipping out. Your mattress will randomly collapse. This morning I awoke to the mattress falling because the slats had slipped again. Multiple slats broke transforming into wooden spikes and then center-beam wall mount also warped causing center-beam to fall. I am unharmed by pure luck. Do not purchase this bed unless you enjoy your slats and then mattress randomly falling as you sleep.1
Poor QualityZachThe bed is nice looking but poor quality. Very soon after purchase the slats will start to come off of their straps. They will make random noises. They will eventually slip and fall off. You will realize this the first time your mattress starts sagging through them or you become a human taco. if you buy, you must lift up your mattress and check position of slats before each use. This morning (8/28/23) I made the mistake of not checking, the slats slipped, as usual. The mattress slipped through and multiple slats broke, followed by the mount for the center-beam breaking. There is a non-zero chance your bed will attempt to murder you in your sleep with these wooden stakes. Purchase at your own risk.1
Changed for the worseNoraI've been buying Malm beds for nearly 20 years. I liked the low price, their clean design, ease of assembly, and sturdiness. When I heard they'd changed the Malm designs, I decided to "upgrade" to one with underbed storage. The new Malm beds are not good. They cost much more, but feel flimsy; mine is less than a year old but it creaks, squeaks, and I hear cracking sounds sometimes. It was VERY hard to put together -- some of the screws just didn't fit the parts they were supposed to. The new parts seemed more cheaply made and breakable. Also I got the Luroy slats, and they elevate the mattress so high that bedsheets will not stay tucked. I've had this bed less than a year and I'm already looking for a replacement.1
Do not buy this bed 10 years later reviewMichelleI owned this bed for 10 years. I would have replaced it sooner but always waited because I thought I would move. After years of sleeping on a constant collapsing and sloping bed my back really hurts. I am surprised that they still sell this bed considering what terrible design it is. Maybe it would be ok if you had a spring mattress but do not try this frame if you are using memory foam or air. First you will need to buy slats. It wasn’t clear when I bought the frame that I would need slats so that was an added expense. While you are sleeping the slats constantly fall out of the frame your bed falls through and the mattress slants and slopes. It’s a near daily thing. The middle bar is higher than the slats so it lifts the middle while the sides slope down and the middle bar creates a hard elevated bump. Over the years I replaced the slats but regardless the bed is all uneven despite new slats with one side sloping so you would roll off. wood peels off, black color chips off.1
