Cat scratcherSHARONIt worked great on an existing cat tree I already had4
Good. but not the bestbolaI think somebody may loves it, but it's not the best for my cat and my house. And it's hard to fasten down by myself.3
Awesome cat scratcherRobinMy cats love these, I put them on the table legs, stair banister and used one to refresh the shredded cat tree!5
Scratcher heavenMARLIANNMy cats have had MANY other scratching posts/items & were “meh” on all. This is our 2nd one in a year. All 3 race to get this when they’re let into the living room in the AM. The old one is now attached to the corner of my mattress (their 2nd favorite place to attack) and I couldn’t be happier. Am getting 2 more for them.5
My 5 Cats Love ItIxtselI’ve had a couple of these for 1-2 years they are pretty worn out by kitties but they still are holding up and they still use it. They look adorable using it. I’ve purchased new ones. I love how you can wrap it around almost any table/chair legs of different sizes. Velcro makes it a fast way to adjust or move to other spots.5
Cat scratcherARDELLALove this cat scratcher, can attach it to anything they are scratching and protect it.5
What is it?LauraCool scratching pad but not sure where it’s designed to go. Our cats have used it once or twice2
Not quite as expectedSandra L.This was a bit too thin to be a cat scratcher - one would have to attach it to another thick backing for a cat's nails not to go through to the furniture. Also, apparently this is only made to fit the table legs of an IKEA table because it was too small to fit around my dining table's legs. So, it became a floor scratcher fitted to a few layers of cardboard.3
My cats love these, and they have saved my furniture from being destroyed!CarleeI purchased these to replace the same item purchased 2 years ago. My cats love these scratchers! They have saved the legs of my dining room table from claws, and I have also used them to recover well-loved cat trees.5
it"s a good value forMarinait's a good value for the money. I use it twice by folding it and when one side is completely gone, I just reverse it and it looks like new again. my cat loves it5
My Cats Love It!WayneI have three of the LURIG cat scratchers now. One on my exercise bike post and two on metal desk legs. Cheaper and better than buying a standalone scratching post. One of the scratchers started to sag a bit. I used a piece of string and tied it up to the top of the desk leg and it now works great.5
Useful for my CatKimoEugeneWe wrapped it around our table leg and our cat enjoys using it since it's tall enough for her to get a full stretch4
Surprisingly great cat scratcherLinda201This is actually the best cat scratcher we've ever had. Because of the Velcro straps, we were able to place it on our dining table's leg super tight, which my cat loves because it doesn't move or give. The tautness allows her to really go for it!5
Cats Love ItRhondalrI have these all around the house. If the area is too large for one, I stick them together to wrap around the “pole” to cover completely.5
Kitty thinks they"re great!Bullwinkle7We purchased a couple of these about a year ago and our cat really enjoys them. We bought two more to put in our RV so they can be enjoyed there as well.5
wmmmthe cat tried it 1 time as soon as I put it up but got his nails caught as I am not able to get it tight enough on the post I attached it to. I'm working on it.4
cats love itBriGuyit's pretty cool, cats always scratichin on it, unfortunately since they scratch downward, it eventually starts bunching up at the bottom and they start scratching right above where it originally stands4
Very functionalsamc916This has been my Cats favorite scratching tool. It lasts about 3 months.5
PortableHCF59I can set this up in different places around the house and the cats love it4

Made for our four legged family members

"I feel that my pets are the ones who can really take me to the present moment. When we share our time together, my head is more free and other worries and stress fall away. They teach us respect, and their unconditional love is priceless."

If you're a pet owner, designer Inma Bermudéz's words might be something that rings true to you too. After all, our pets give us a lot, from that wagging tail that welcomes us home, to that calm company next to us on the sofa, or that unconditional love at every other time. If you ask us we figure it’s time to give them something back. That's why we brought in Inma to work on the LURVIG range, which is designed to help out all aspects of life with our dogs and cats. Not to mention be long lasting and affordable, while fitting in with your existing home furnishings. As Inma says: "Our pets have their own personalities but they have five things in common: they love sleeping, eating, playing and exercising and being close to us. So these behaviors have been the first thing on our minds when designing these products."

Designing from a pet's perspective

Of course designing products for pets rather than humans has its own set of rules and things to consider. To help out, the LURVIG range was developed with the assistance of trained veterinarian Dr Barbara Schäfer, who also works with product risk assessment at IKEA. Barbara has an extensive background working with pets from hamsters and rats all the way up to dogs and cats. She says the biggest challenge is not to "humanize" pet products. "It's really important to use animal’s natural needs and behaviors like how they sleep, eat or play as a starting point. Then we can design a product that fits in with our "human needs" such as style and form." The first thing to consider was safety: "Dogs will definitely chew on their toys and bring in dirt from their daily walks. Cats will definitely scratch on most surfaces and are sensitive to smell and texture. So safe, durable materials are very important." As well as looking at animal behaviors like eating. "Cats are generally good at regulating how much food they eat, however a number of dog breeds still retain the desire to overeat. That's how the "slow feed" bowl became part of the LURVIG range. By using a design that breaks up a bowls internal surface area, it prevents the dog from being able to inhale their food in one or two gulps."

Matching human design with pet design

How often when watching your pet do they go for the same toy or blanket and return to a cozy spot to chew or maybe just have nearby as a comfort? Rounding out the LURVIG design process was the focus that our pet's live with us at home as part of the family — even if they do take the odd shoe or two. For Inma, that led to a friendly smelling bed. "The piece that I'm most proud of is a pet cushion that we encourage owners to fill with their old clothes, blankets or towels. The idea’s that pets get a comfortable cushion with comfortable, familiar smells too." The LURVIG range also matches with some IKEA classics, like a cat bed that fits perfectly into a KALLAX shelving unit and a pet sized version of a sofa bed that matches our human sized ones. Final words though go to Inma to sum up their ambition of the range. "I share my life with three dogs and I've always missed nice pet products at an affordable price. As an animal lover I’m proud and happy to be part of this project. I would love it if it inspired people to spend more quality time with their pets."
