Happy catJACKThis scratching pad is the best gift to my cats, they absolutely loved it…!!!5
Great scratching padKatieI love this scratching pad. Before my morning kibble I do a little cat stretch on it. Throughout the day I'll do a little scratch here and there and in the evening a rambunctious exercise on it. The design is great in my 120sq ft home. My preferred way is to leave it flat on the floor, but I also love the option to wrap it around a post. It's my go to scratch pad. -Fred the orange tabby5
cat"s favoriteAggieMy intention was to lie this on the floor. I had purchased a similar item for the floor and haven't been able to find it again and repurchase it. This Ikea item I have on the first floor of my house. My cat loves it!!!5
Kitty loves it!LaMy kitten was scratching my furniture until I got this - cured him completely! He loves the feeling of this scratch post mat. I bought an extra, glued it to a large board, and he uses it to climb up with the "big boy cats". Priced at nearly half what Walmart wanted for a similar item.5

Great productJenI had a cat tree I was going to have to re carpet because my kitty tore the carpeting off. I just wrapped this around the damaged pole and voile it fit perfect and he’s happy again.!!!5
Cat loves it!CiaranMy cat loves this and immediately started climbing and scratching it. Great for a small space!5

Cat scratch post coverSONIAThe velcro could have a little longer that supplied so it could wrap around a thicker post.4
great way to refresh a scratching postSkye T.This is a simple, elegant way to refresh an old scratching post. So much easier than trying to re-wrap it with 50+ feet of scratchy sisal rope. This pad is quite narrow and only covers three sides of a 4x4 post, but that's fine since the cats don't scratch on the side facing the wall anyway. Knocking off a star because they aren't as instantly drawn to it as with sisal rope, but hoping they'll take to it soon enough.4
Replacement cat twineJESSICAWhile this is an excellent product, I only wish they made it in a wider option. My cat post I needed this for is chunkier than most standard cat posts and this di not fit. However, on the floor my cat loves laying on it!4
Serves it purpose a bit too wellRamona R.Purchased this for my table legs as it was low cost and I have minimal space and did not want a separate scratching post sitting around. It definitely works as intended- however my cat has taken it upon himself to now climb and sit on my table. Great product5
Cat loves this!JULIEMy cat loves this scratcher. I love that I can attach it to the post on my railing.5
Cat tested & approvedcassandraOur cat loves this. Not only does she think it makes a great scratching pad, she loves it as a mat to sleep on. And she enjoys moving it around, when it isn’t attached.5
Scratch padTerrygood to make a scratch pad where none exists.5
Cat scratch matRosanneMy cat will scratch around the mat, not on it. It's not a problem with the product, it's just not right for my cat.2
Holy grail cat itemMeganMy cats love this. You do need to go in knowing it won’t last forever. Your cats will eat through it so we always have backups. Lasts about a year.5
Best ScratchersNatalieMy cats adore them! I wrap them around my desk's table legs (a Linnmon tabletop with the Adils legs), and the cats happily stretch and scratch on them. After two years mine are a bit tattered so I got new ones - but for the price, that's a good long time to last! They destroy scratchers normally.5

Interesting itemPAULAI bought this to replace a scratching post that had been destroyed. It didn't fit where I needed it but I've made adjustments and my cats have started to use it. It's a bit unclear as to how it's intended to be used. Also, the sign in IKEA said $6.99 but it was $7.99 when I checked out. I didn't notice until I got home.4

Made for our four legged family members

"I feel that my pets are the ones who can really take me to the present moment. When we share our time together, my head is more free and other worries and stress fall away. They teach us respect, and their unconditional love is priceless."

If you're a pet owner, designer Inma Bermudéz's words might be something that rings true to you too. After all, our pets give us a lot, from that wagging tail that welcomes us home, to that calm company next to us on the sofa, or that unconditional love at every other time. If you ask us we figure it’s time to give them something back. That's why we brought in Inma to work on the LURVIG range, which is designed to help out all aspects of life with our dogs and cats. Not to mention be long lasting and affordable, while fitting in with your existing home furnishings. As Inma says: "Our pets have their own personalities but they have five things in common: they love sleeping, eating, playing and exercising and being close to us. So these behaviors have been the first thing on our minds when designing these products."

Designing from a pet's perspective

Of course designing products for pets rather than humans has its own set of rules and things to consider. To help out, the LURVIG range was developed with the assistance of trained veterinarian Dr Barbara Schäfer, who also works with product risk assessment at IKEA. Barbara has an extensive background working with pets from hamsters and rats all the way up to dogs and cats. She says the biggest challenge is not to "humanize" pet products. "It's really important to use animal’s natural needs and behaviors like how they sleep, eat or play as a starting point. Then we can design a product that fits in with our "human needs" such as style and form." The first thing to consider was safety: "Dogs will definitely chew on their toys and bring in dirt from their daily walks. Cats will definitely scratch on most surfaces and are sensitive to smell and texture. So safe, durable materials are very important." As well as looking at animal behaviors like eating. "Cats are generally good at regulating how much food they eat, however a number of dog breeds still retain the desire to overeat. That's how the "slow feed" bowl became part of the LURVIG range. By using a design that breaks up a bowls internal surface area, it prevents the dog from being able to inhale their food in one or two gulps."

Matching human design with pet design

How often when watching your pet do they go for the same toy or blanket and return to a cozy spot to chew or maybe just have nearby as a comfort? Rounding out the LURVIG design process was the focus that our pet's live with us at home as part of the family — even if they do take the odd shoe or two. For Inma, that led to a friendly smelling bed. "The piece that I'm most proud of is a pet cushion that we encourage owners to fill with their old clothes, blankets or towels. The idea’s that pets get a comfortable cushion with comfortable, familiar smells too." The LURVIG range also matches with some IKEA classics, like a cat bed that fits perfectly into a KALLAX shelving unit and a pet sized version of a sofa bed that matches our human sized ones. Final words though go to Inma to sum up their ambition of the range. "I share my life with three dogs and I've always missed nice pet products at an affordable price. As an animal lover I’m proud and happy to be part of this project. I would love it if it inspired people to spend more quality time with their pets."
