Great cabinet for storing backpacksDaliaI bought 3 (1 for each one my kids). This is the perfect solution to store their backpacks and hide them away. They look great and of good quality. Instructions are not the best.5
Assembly instructions lackingChristopherGot stuck at trying to attach legs. What appeared to be sheet metal screws were inadequate to penetrate the metal in the area that was apparently intended for them, and the instructions could have been much clearer about the process at that point. Not wanting to spend any more time with assembly, I returned the item to the store.1
2/3 Cabinets Were GoodKarenI ordered three of the Lixhult metal cabinets. Two of them were good and will serve the intended purpose as classroom storage. The third had a manufacturing error -- the screw hole wasn't punched for one of the legs to be attached. I discovered the default when it was nearly fully assembled and needed to put into use right away in my classroom. Therefore, I just inserted the leg, without the screw, and gravity is holding it together. I'm disappointed that it's less secure/sturdy, but time was of the essence nor was it practical to disassemble and send back. One final note: for all three, redesigning to accomodate two shelves or placing the one shelf centered in the cabinet would be so much better!4
Looks like IKEA has corrected the issue of missing holesAnonymous reviewerI now have 16 of these, and the last few that I bought have all had the pre-drilled holes like they're supposed to which was NOT the case when I first started buying these a couple of years ago. The ONLY thing I would improve is one step in the directions: if you're not using the legs, wait until you put the top on before hammering the plastic plugs into the bottom. It's a heck of a lot easier to turn this cabinet upside down to hammer in those plugs than to do it sideways which is what the directions tell you to do.5
Not as hard as people are making it seemAnnaRead the directions very carefully - like checking which direction holes should be facing, etc. If the directions say “click!” then make sure you really click or else things won’t line up. People claiming holes are missing just put certain things on backwards or on the wrong side. If you go slow on the first one, building a second is SO QUICK! Super easy assembly, they look great. 5
Great look. needs more featuresAnonymous reviewerI wish they have lighter color and adjustable shelving. other than that, this is a great cabinet.3
It's not IKEA, it's youShuoThe assembly is fine and all the pre-drilled holes are there. For all the reviewers saying it's not I guess they just aren't good at following instructions, including "expert" John. 5
Great cabinet--as long as you don't need the legsAnonymous reviewerI have 11 of these so I'm kind of an "expert" I guess in putting them together. They're very easy to assemble as long as you don't need the legs. Only 2 of them came with the pre-drilled holes needed for the legs. Since I'm fine with using them without their legs, this is no big deal to me personally, but I do wish IKEA would get to the bottom of this and fix the problem. Still, I would not hesitate to get more if I needed them, but knowing that I would probably need to just place them directly on the floor and not use the legs.2
Horrible to put together, functional cabinetMaryIf you're doing this and you want the legs on the cabinet, for the love of God, do steps 7 and 8 before 3-6. I mixed up the front and back pieces and had to do it from scratch again to put the door on, 7&8 are so much easier without 3-6 done. Getting the legs screwed in is easily the hardest part and is much harder once the back and bottom are on due to maneuverability issues. Also: try screwing the screws through the leg holes by themselves to make threading before doing it to attach to the cabinet. Makes it much easier. All stars lost are due to the horrible ordeal that's putting the legs on. The cabinet itself is what I wanted. 2
After days of thinking it's faulty.. it's usCharlotteYou have to shove the rectangle parts in until you see the plastic come through.. there's your hole for the screws. Happy to have figured it out. 5
DO NOT BUY PLZ GAWD DONTHarperI had these before and loved them. Sadly I lost them in the divorce so I bought them again. Turns out ALL of the new ones are IMPOSSIBLE to put together. Not like I just couldn't figure it out, I mean you simply CANNOT put them together. They were missing holes that are supposed to be pre drilled (for the legs). See the other reviews, its not just me. I ordered online, and had them delivered. I returned to the store in person, got 2 more. THOSE TWO WERE THE SAME. You cannot put these together. Dont bother, I tried FOUR different ones, all with the same issue. 1
IrritatingJasonI've put huge Ikea closets together that were less irritating than this small, simple item. The instructions are vague and only half of the holes are drilled. I thought I was losing my mind until I figured out there wasn't actually a hole where the illustration indicated. Quality control on this was a total fail.3
Great little cabinet!RebeccaI love ikea metal pieces in general and this one is no exception. It was easy and quick to assemble. I’d love a version that was meant to be a sofa end table…and PLEASE bring back fun and flamboyant colors!!!!5
No pre-drilled holesAnonymous reviewerI have 9 of these, and only 2 of them came with all of the holes pre-drilled. I just use the other 7 without the legs, but it's deceitful of IKEA to sell these things knowing that there is a major flaw in its construction.1
Missing predrilled holes WilliamImpossible to assemble because it is missing pre-drilled holes for the legs. The spots where the holes should be are indented, but were not punched by the factory. Other reviews complain of the same issue. I live too far away from an IKEA store so I’m out the money I spent. My worst purchase of 2023. 1
Defective productJalenThe bottom bars didn’t fit inside the hole and there are NO pre-screwed holes. Didn’t even make it past step 2 - extremely disappointed in IKEA selling me a defective product1
Missing a holeAnonymous reviewerThis is very easy to assemble, but be warned that if you plan on attaching the legs, there's a good chance that one or more of the pre-drilled holes will be missing. And good luck drilling your own hole. The good news is that the legs will still attach, they just won't be securely attached. It'll still function, but if you ever plan on picking it up and moving it, the leg(s) will fall off.3
Difficult to assembleAlisonThis is a nice product, but ... in order to use the option of the legs, there need to be holes drilled to insert the screws. There were "dents" but no holes drilled. This is a metal product and you cannot just "punch" through the dents. It was extremely difficult to drill the holes. It took a lot of time and force, and caused some denting and scratching to the product.4
Horrible ProductJohnI purchased two of these cabinets. They are incredibly wobbly not sturdy at all. They look cool but overall very low quality and not worth the $80 I spent on them.1
great cabinetAnonymous reviewerThis metal cabinet is a great addition to my dining area. I did leave off the legs and mounted on the wall. It fits my industrial look perfectly I probably buy one more. Its slender enough to have them mounted for extra storage.5

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
