Looks great but installation is terribleChaiVisually it looks great but the installation process was the same as many others have experienced—tiring. My house is about little over 30 years old so it’s modern-ish as far as houses go but this wasn’t as easy to install as I’d hoped.
I feel like the mounting bracket should have more room for adjustment considering how large it is and how it’d all be covered by the lamp anyway. I thought it was just me but others seem to have had similar issues. This took me a few hours solo until the later steps in the instructions (which aren’t clear!!) but even with a second pair of hands we were having a hard time getting it to mount to the existing setup which was already relatively basic (three regular bulbs in a triangle).
After I finished it ended up sitting at a slight angle but I don’t feel like taking it apart again especially since it’s now nighttime and I don’t want to flip the breaker and work with lamps.
It’s also much more warm colored than the crisp white pictured.3

Very yellow lighting, medium brightness, unhappy and returningMichelleWe liked this in the store/showroom but at home with cool colored neutral walls it's SO YELLOW. 2
Worst design and nightmare installation MiaoHave been a customer of ikea for 8 yrs. This is the most dumb product ever purchased.
First, seperating the top plate and fixture ring makes it super difficult to install. Access to fixture ring and top plate is very limited. Why dont you put these two things together and bolt from underneath with one Shot? Second, top plate only fits larger J box. Why don't you cut the slots more for another inch or speak it clearly in the introduction that it only fits larger one. I installed several fixtures in my home and all of them have enough slot room for both size fixtures. In conclusion, garbage design and zero consideration of installation, dont waste your money. 1
Easy Install, stylish, bright!JustinVery easy install, took 30 minutes. You will need a standard round ceiling electrical box, which comes with its own mounting screws, or reuse the hardware in your existing light fixture.
Very bright and well dispersed light, love the look—elegant and modern.5
Miserable to InstallNeilWe bought this lamp despite its poor reviews regarding the installation process. It looks like a nice fit for our space, and we’re pretty good at putting together IKEA furniture, so how hard can it be? We expected it to be fiddly but doable. We were wrong.
This product does NOT come with:
1. Screws for attaching it to the ceiling
2. Caps for attaching lamp wires to ceiling wires
3. A list of box contents
4. Instructions that are in the actual process order.
Beyond that, the lamp is terribly designed in that it fits exactly one size/style electrical box in the ceiling. For us, the base of the lamp was too big and would require holes into the ceiling dry wall, despite having had a standard lamp previously installed. It took us an entire afternoon and a trip to the hardware store to get up - and we have three engineering degrees between us!
Now that it’s installed, the light is bright and warm, and the design is pleasant. That absolutely does not salvage the install experience.1
Bright ceiling lightZheBright ceiling light but need 2 person to install3
Terrible designAuroraThis is intentionally designed in order to be as hostile as possible for installation. It's heald up with a hope and a prayer, the screw studs strip out if you look at them wrong, I've never met such a horribly designed fixture. I would only recommend this to my enemies.1
looks good but very painful to installBretThis product was designed for looks with no consideration for ease of install. A second set of hands is required to hold the assembly throughout install. Because of the installation sequence there is limited space for a screwdriver when installing the metal mounting plate. The wires are simply too short. In the next step a plastic base is attached to the metal mounting plate but there are no alignment features making it a near blind mount. I recently installed non-IKEA flush mount light fixtures in a hallway that I could do by myself in half the time. Now that the light is in it looks good but I won't buy another one.
A secondary issue is the light is quite bright with no dimming capability. It would rate this higher if it had more functionality.2
Excellent for low ceilingsAdamWe picked up one of these in the as-is section with minor cosmetic defects for about $36. At that price it was a terrific value, but I'd also pay full price. It's very stylish and bright, the CRI is pleasantly warm, and it feels solidly built. It's also low-profile enough for the 7-ft ceilings in our bedroom.
I'd agree with the reviewer who said installation is a two-person job, but we didn't find it any more challenging than any other flush mounts we've installed.5
Painful installation, obnoxiously brightAnonymous reviewerInstallation is quite painful because of the way you have to have all the parts somewhat tangled together while wiring it up and installing the screws. You definitely need someone else to hold it up while you do this, and it’s not a particularly light lamp.
The lamp is also incredibly bright so it’s not good for small spaces like a bathroom or closet. Probably fine for a large living room.
I was also very disappointed to find that the type of LED bulb is not listed anywhere on the product page nor in the instructions. Even worse, IKEA support could not tell me what type of LED bulb it was. They told me to “go to the store” which is incredibly inconvenient.
They need to list the type of LED bulb used as well as whether it is dimmable or not (appears to be not dimmable from another reviewer). I do NOT recommend this lamp.1
Nice soft light.CraigVery stylish and streamlined. Provides a bright but very soft light.
I installed 2 Kaboma in a larger walk-in closet and both lights provide more than enough light for the space. A little too much for my taste actually so I hooked them to a dimmer switch but the lights did not like that at all! Only at full power did they stay stable, otherwise they were flickering like mad. I quickly removed the dimmer as not to damage them.
I installed 3 total, all on a slight sloping ceiling. I wish there was an angled adapter piece to make the lamp hang more level.
I intially had a hang up that the color temp wasn't selectable. These replaced a set of lamps that were around 5600K and these are like 3000K, so it was a little bit to adjust to the color change.
But overall, I'm happy.4
