If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!KelsieI have a few IVAR shelving units and love them, but this new version is awful :( it literally took my entire body weight to fit the sides together, and then I couldn’t even hammer the dowels in because the holes were misaligned. By the time I got everything disassembled to return it, I’d engaged in an hour-long full-body workout that I didn’t ask for, and had nothing to show for it. AND I have to make a 2-hour round trip to the store to return it after paying to have it delivered. Why’d ya have to go changing a great product? 1
More work, worse qualityNicoloIkea recently switched to making the customer assemble the side units. They're wrapped in paper at point of purchase. The side units are warped horizontally and vertically. You can no longer check in-store to make sure what you're buying is of high quality. If you're fortunate enough to get side units with no warping, the side unit assembly is still a pain. The cutouts for the slots are not actually cut out all the way. There's still wood splinters in the holes, making sure the slats can't go in all the way. The dowels need to be hammered in with all of Thor's might. This is construction, not assembly. I used to swear by the Ivar system, but pushing assembly of the side units onto the buyer and concealing the quality of the product in-store has made certain I will not buy another Ivar product again.1
