Solid B gradeLilianWe love the HEMNES line. Unfortunately, the nightstands had several misaligned holes for the runners, messing up the overall finished construction and setting of the drawers. It was way too difficult to attach the runners (with screws at an angle to make it fit) and the screws themselves were cheap material and stripped easily. Not fun!3
Sturdy and ClassicKristinOver the past 3 years, we’ve bought two Hemnes dressers, four Hemnes nightstands, and Hemnes shelving. All are wonderfully sturdy and long-lasting. The assembly directions are clear, and after doing the first one, the drawers are easy to do. Just make sure your screws go all the way in or the drawers won’t close smoothly.5
Solid ChoiceDavidVery please with the quality of this nightstand which I bough to match the HEMNES dresser i had purchased previously. Easy to assemble, sturdy and looks great. The bonus on the solid wood construction of the HEMNES product line is they are lighter and easier to move around than their particleboard counter parts like MALM. I have several MALM pieces also and am very happy with those also, but they are really heavy.5
Hemnes NightstandBallewThis nightstand is beautiful and well constructed. It is made of solid pine with a small wooden insert in the top drawer. Having built Ikea products for over 20 years it was easy to assemble. My college age son loves it!5
Better than the dresserJoyThese seem to be sturdier than the dresser. We did switch out the knobs for gold ones. It elevates the look.5
I have always loved thisShelleyI have always loved this furniture! My daughter has the large 8-drawer chest and I decided when I saw it 9 years ago that when we redesigned our bedroom, I wanted this furniture. I absolutely love it all!5
Love itJacklynI love the side tables for my bedroom, I bought it for $79, like 3 years ago and now is $149 its toooo much!!! Too expensive!! Almost doble price. 4
Great nightstand!SusanThis is a solid nightstand, good size, easy to assemble if you’re familiar with IKEA products. Great value too! Would definitely buy again and recommend to friends. 😊5
Hemnes beside tablePennySturdy drawer unit. Perfect for a bedside table5
Hemnes nightstand JasonMy first experience with IKEA, very impressed with store organization, friendly and knowledgeable staff and overall quality for cost. Product build directions have room for improvement. I purchased matching dresser which I assembled first, it went together perfectly. However, I had difficulty with the nightstand and the two long screw holes to help secure top did not align properly. Frustrating, but I’m handy in woodworking and was able to modify it to make it come together and work. Considering how well the much more complex dresser went together, I’m assuming this may have been a one off problem and will likely be back for a desk I’ve been looking into purchasing.3

Fantastic nightstands BUT!!!!Verified ReviewerI've been using mine for 5+ years, and wanted to sell them to get new ones in a darker colour. BUT.. WHAT? they're $70 more than they were even in 2019! Absolutely insane... I could understand a smaller price hike but $70-- no freaking way not worth it! Mine were even manufactured poorly and the holes for screws weren't deep enough for one of my drawers (so it busted some splintered wood on the interior)3
Excellent Night StandVerified BuyerWe like these nightstands. They look both classic and modern at the same time. They don’t have quite as much room inside as the Malm, but the sliding small trinket shelf is a useful feature. A word on assembly: be careful with the drawers to be sure the correct sides are facing outward - the directions need to be clearer.5
So sad to see double pricesHolliI bought this in gray for one child in the last few years for $79.99. Came today and it is $149. Wow!!! Wish I could afford it but that’s unfortunately way more than I can budget. 3

Nice if you want the white stain finishLaurenWhen I ordered this, I thought I was getting the solid white finish (my fault). I was purchasing it to match another that I have. This is the white stain which is not as glossy. It's still a pretty piece so I decided to keep it. Very easy to assemble.4
PerfectStevenHemmes makes a nice quality looking piece of furniture. The color is spot on. And the feel is perfect.5
Perfect Bedside TablesMaryThese tables are perfect. Just enough storage in the drawers to hold incidentals. The top has enough space for a few items plus a small lamp. Easy assembly. It was a little tricky to put the first together, but once I had the first one together and knew where everything went, I had the 2nd one together in under an hour. I put both together by myself in a couple of hours.5
Recommend with reservationsDebraPerfect nightstand, easy to assemble, love the small tray in the top drawer, deep drawers. Major flaw is the top of the nightstand had gouges from the factory that was stained over, obvious wasn't due to packing or shipping. Kept one that was slightly flawed and returned second one twice to get one without gouges. The last time returned damaged item to store the employee allowed us to open box in store to assure no damage.3
Very good productWayneEasy to assemble. Looks very nice5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the tree species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.
