Product details

The workstation is extra comfortable to work at, because the contoured table top allows you to sit close and supports your wrists and forearms.

Keep your coffee, beverage or snacks nearby in the cut-out cup holders on either side of the table top. The cup holders are made of plastic that is approved for use with food.

Hang the small shelves inside or outside the side panels, depending on your needs.

You can fit a 32" computer monitor or TV by removing the shelf above the table top.

The high side panels help block sunlight and prevent distracting glare on your computer monitor.

ExcelentMohammedThis is very unconmon with Many offsons. It's make my son happy5
Overpriced... but it does the job + surprisingly sturdyEricHad to find a replacement desk in a pinch. I don't usually shop Ikea; this desk was recommended in forums, so I went for it. The assembly is a bit quirky... you really have to study the manual, and some of the assembly is odd/frustrating (helps to use real handtools, not what they provide). But don't despair! The finished assembly is surprisingly rigid, it doesn't wiggle, wobble, creak. PROS Nice and sturdy, the weight/heft is perfect. The sizing is good - the main "desk" is a fine height even for a 6'3" person like myself. The added shelves provide more utilization - very functional for a switch and multiple connected devices. Protip 2: Flip the little "baby shelves" inward if you can afford the space. CONS 1: Overpriced. This isn't a $380 product... it should be closer to $200, no way should it be over $300. 2: The desk's edge, that faces you - where your arms might rest - should have been pre-rounded at this price. A bit sharp if your arms rest there like mine.4
Reliable desk with a lot of fat to trimMylesCurrently trying to replace my FREDDE with something of a different style, but it's been a reliable desk for the 6 years that I've had it. Plenty of desk space makes work and gaming easy and the upper and lower shelves are great for big screens and other peripherals. Personally I found that the metal panels, side shelves, and platforms underneath only got in the way, but the desk is still perfectly usable without them.4
You'll need the YouTube tutorial for this creaky messZekeThe directions for this one aren't as straightforward as other IKEA furniture to the point we had to find a tutorial on YouTube (you have to twist a couple of the rods in what seems like the wrong direction first, then the right direction once screws are lined up, but the directions don't actually SAY that or show it properly) in order to finish building it. The side panels don't really want to go in or stay in (if you bump the desk they have a tendency to pop out), and the cup holders also come out if your cup or bottle has condensation on it (the fit isn't tight enough). The worst part of this desk though is all the noise it makes when you're using it - it creaks and groans like crazy. I've double checked the screws to make sure nothing was loose, but to no avail. Finally, someone drew on one of the panels that shows in the factory with a permanent marker, and it appears to be a large butt, which is unfortunate considering the cost of this desk. It's not worth the price IMO.2
Sturdy but slightly difficult build. KassidyHonestly, building this took longer than I thought due to the fact that the directions had us flip around the pieces we had already screwed in. The bottom shelf pieces did not fit my PC tower, so I had to remove one set to get my computer to fit. I have a 27" monitor and we had to tilt it in because there is a bar in the front and back that prevents you from putting it in normally. Other than that, the table is pretty sturdy and useful. 4

Poor craftmanshipVanessaWish I looked into more detail the desk. The showroom looked like it could fit a gaming pc but it does not. The assembly was horrid. Holes don’t line up to insert screws under the desk hopefully doesn’t fall when I’m working on it. IKEA has gone down significantly with their furniture. 1
Amazing gaming deskJeremyThis gaming desk is super nice and great quality. Has all the space for everything I need and more. 10/105
Nice desk butAnthonyHorrible assembly instructions and some pieces didn't fit well but once we got it together it looks good. 3
Almost the perfect gaming deskHenryThis could have been a perfect computer desk if it hadn’t fallen short due to a few questionable choices. First, the shelf for the computer tower is limited to 18.5 inches in height and 18.8 inches in depth. Many gaming cases are 19 inches or taller in height and 19 inches or deeper in depth, not to mention the need for extra clearance to access the top I/O. Second, the monitor shelf is a bit too low, making the space between the desk and the monitor shelf too narrow to fit a game controller or other devices underneath. Finally, the metal side panels on each side of the desk are too flimsy and can wobble even with small movements.3
Quality control could be betterAlexanderMy wife and I finally found the perfect desks with hutches for us to have and they hold double monitors and more thanks to the depth! Assembling was a pain during my desk (and even worse doing her desk) since some of the holes did not align correctly. Some brute force later I got those screws to go where they didn't want to go but I suffered for it.4
Amazing gaming desk, Value for MoneyAnonymous reviewerI have had this desk for over a decade. Yes you read that right, a decade. This desk is actually quite simple to build, I was able to do it in a few hours with the help of my 11 year old sister who has no experience. I have had two different full sized computers that fit well and securely on the pc shelf. I use the second bottom shelf to home my subwoofer. This desk is large enough to fit two 32" monitors. Overall, very excellent desk, perfect for one who enjoys the finer things in life! 5
It won't fit a gaming PC, Extremely limiting designAnonymous reviewerThe shelves to hold your PC only have 18.5" of usable height, and it limits you to an IO panel/power switches located on the front, only. There are very few gaming PC cases on the market that fit those requirements. Almost none if you want to use a full-sized motherboard and want an external drive bay. This desk was not designed to fit a gaming PC. that space will work for a pre-built midtower office PC, but not much else. Pre-built gaming PCs are usually full sized now, so they usually won't fit. You could remove the shelf and put the PC on the floor, but that shelf seems structurally important. It is frustrating and thoughtless that they just didn't design the shelf to be a few inches lower. It seems like there would have been plenty of space. I do not think the designer of this desk is familiar with (or cares about) what functionality "gamers" need. Also, it turns out the hutch design is also extremely limiting if you want ultrawide, vertical, or multi monitors, or cameras. 2
The longer I live with this desk, the more I hate itEricI bought this desk as a music production workstation. I liked the side shelves for speakers at ear height and the 2-tier main surface for monitors directly above recording gear. It was VERY difficult to assemble. Over time I have come to HATE a lot about it: (1) Main surface is a few inches higher than standard, and none of my office or gaming chairs go high enough to sit comfortably. (2) Central cutout where keyboard would go is exactly the opposite of how I like my keyboard placed. I want my keyboard practically in my lap, but on this desk it is physically painful to type because the keyboard is too high and too outstretched from me. (3) Highest shelf is too high to put another monitor or TV up there, I tried it but couldn't see it without painful neck craning. I have also hit my head on that shelf more times than I can count when trying to wire things sitting on the main surface, and I just wish it didn't have this higher shelf at all. (4) No sliding keyboard tray for MIDI piano1
Remote WorkerShakiraI bought the desk for the size not for gaming - I work at home and it was the right amount of space needed. 4
Good value with a few obvious issuesMichaelThis is a nice desk that provides good value if you're a gamer on a budget. The two-tiered desk is convenent and allows for easy stashing of devices and cables, as well as a built-in monitor riser. The built-in risers are great for things like speakers up top and your tower and a subwoofer down below. It feels sturdy and it's a pretty quick build. But those same shelves that are so useful are also one of the bigger problems. The upper shelves are surprisingly difficult to adjust once you've installed them, so you better like the positioning before you screw them together (I actually chose not to so that I can adjust them down the line). They also tab into the same slots as the side panels, making things even more annoying. But the biggest issue is the tower shelf below. It's too insecure for a typical mid-ATX rig since it's only attached on two sides and just can't handle the weight. I had to buy a separate set of adjustable 7-inch legs to properly support the free corner.3
best gaming desk across the board.Jose AntonioI use to build and design my own desks. but I recently moved to an apartment and I needed something that will cater to my gaming needs. having a modular shelf system really drew me closer in to purchasing Fredde gaming desk. Build quality is great! sturdy and doesn't wobble. It's quite pricey but once you assemble and finally get to use it. the price actually make sense. I'll upload some videos on Youtube for an update soon! watch out for the IKEA shoutout!5
Almost PerfectMelissaI'm not a gamer, but this desk is the perfect size for someone who uses dual monitors like I do for work. The only issue we had when putting it together was adding the thin, metal side panels. They're flimsy and when we moved the desk one fell off and bent at the corner. I opted to leave them off. Also, the bars/ cross beams weren't clearly marked on which way to install them.4
Great desk!CherylA bit challenging to put together, but we managed and it is a really great desk for my son who is both a gamer and in college. He is very happy with this desk.5
This one is a sellerNishaWe loved this desk for my teenager and holds up his gaming pc and various accessories. It's versatile and solid built. Easy to assemble. I don't know why people have difficulty with that. My 13 year old put it together with no help.5

Accessories for FREDDE

FREDDE Gaming desk, black, 55 1/8/72 7/8x29 1/8x57 1/2 "

Getting gaming right

If you’re not in to computer gaming yourself, perhaps you have children who are. Across the world, gaming is booming, and naturally IKEA should provide furniture designed for it. So how do players set up a game station to create that immersive gaming experience, what do they need to feel comfortable and supported while playing? When creating FREDDE desk we needed to know. How we found out? We asked a gamer.

David Wahl is not only one of our designers. He’s a gamer too. Of course he got the task. “When I started playing video games you'd have to make sure your friends were free, and someone’s house was free, then make your way down the street, console in hand to play,” David says. “Now, it's just as likely that you're playing with people in Shanghai or Sydney or Stockholm.”

Creating a gaming command central

One of the advantages of gaming's move beyond the TV or the family computer is that gamers are free to make a space customized to enjoy each game's full potential. “A big part of gaming is the immersive experience,” David says. “So my first move when designing FREDDE was to make a cut out in the desktop so that you could be closer to the screen and have almost a command central sort of feel, while also getting support for your arms at the same time.”

Made to be customized

FREDDE fits speakers, a 32" screen, or a couple of smaller screens on a height adjustable shelf. David also had a personal wish. “I used to love playing driving simulator games where you would often use pedals, the same as a car,” he says. “I always found it annoying if you had cables or other things in the way when you were driving so I made sure to design the desk with an unobstructed space for pedals on FREDDE.”

A designer's proudest moment

David is proud to see the gaming community making the desk their own. “If you do an image search for FREDDE it's fantastic to see how people are adapting it to create their own perfect game space, which is exactly in tune with what I hoped.”

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
