Negative stars for garbage quality & expensiveAlyssaSways badly even when each side is screwed together. Doors are impossible to align properly. You MUST screw to wall. Wood cabinet doors are very heavy and create significant tipping hazard.
Returning isn't possible as I had this unit delivered because it doesn't fit in my car - also the closest IKEA is 1.5 hours away so a significant inconvenience.
Extremely unhappy and unlikely to purchase from IKEA again after this experience.1
Very disappointedTatiana Terrible cabinet, construction like cardboard, wobbles no matter what you do, like a house of cards. Even for free you don't need one like that.1
So disappointed - really needs cross-bracing!MelissaPurchased this to add storage to our guest bedroom. It is such a flimsy build, that it can sway at least an inch from side to side. Give the weight of the doors, the body of the cabinet is way too light, making door adjustments extremely tedious and wall anchoring a must. 2
just know what you are getting intoStevenAfter reading the other reviews and weighing the concerns of swaying/sturdiness that other people brought up, I still bought two of these (4 frames total) knowing I would need to do some additional work. I just love how they look and I am sad ikea doesn't include some basic cross-bracing or internal support.
First, you MUST anchor these to a wall, and I had to buy drywall anchors (1/4" x 4 inch toggle bolts) to really ensure they won't move. I didn't see any included drywall anchors from the frame packaging. Without being attached to a wall these will definitely sway and look like trash.
Second, I bought some eye hooks, some wire and a some turnbuckles to provide internal tension towards the lower third of the shelves. Otherwise, the sides of the frames will bow out. I don't recommend these solution to anyone since they are not what ikea says to do, but I would have to return these things without those modifications.
After all that, I can live with them and they look really nice.2
Absolute garbage. I could blow this thing over.CarlAs everyone else recently has said, there is absolutely no cross bracing and it wobbles like crazy. It feels so cheap for what it costs.1
Not sturdy at AllLauraThe frame and shelves are easy enough to put together if you don't mind it being extremely unsturdy with absolutely zero cross bracing. Because it doesn't have an crossbracing its not square so the doors don't hang well and sort of awkwardly sit on another another unless you can fix that one your own.
You can probably get something better for the money2
Swings side to sideMingWhile the cabinet assembly process wasn't overly difficult, the finished product lacks stability as it tends to sway from side to side. I attempted to remedy this issue by installing additional L-shaped braces, but they only provided minimal improvement.1
Poor qualityIdyThe cabinet was very easy to built. However, the cabinet would swing sideways unless it's attached to a wall. It's not sturdy and unsafe. I should have listened to the reviews when i buy it. Now I'm stuck with the cabinet.1
very poor assembly instructions KevinI’ve assembled a dozen different ikea products and all have been straight forward.
However, assembly for besta is confusing. The besta is one of IKEA products that can be assembled in different ways so you can configure it to be standing up or down, cabinet doors open left or right, attach it to the wall so that it hangs, etc.
Because there are different ways of configuring the besta you would think IKEA would provide you instructions on how to setup your specific configuration… nope!
The instructions good up until the point you have completed the frame… after that your pretty much on your own on how to attach the doors which is actually complicated because you dont know where the doors should go based on the configuration you want. Oh yeah.. want to hang it on the wall… no instructions on how to do that either.
IKEA please provide more straight forward instructions based on the different configurations for your besta line.1
Terrible assemblyDanielThese look great, but they are terrible to assemble. It's worth noting also that you'll need to drill these into the wall.
When I first got these, a part that helps you attach to the wall broke on me, so I just drilled it to the wall by eye.
Fast-forward a year to when I'm moving, and that broken piece really came back to bite me in the rear. I had to order a spare part from ikea, only to find that the broken piece was a bigger issue than I realized. I can't even remove it because the peg broke and that broken peg is now stuck in the wood.
I recommend avoiding this one.1
Expected better quality for the price. But still looks niceAnonymous reviewerI just purchased and assembled 2 of these Besta units to go side by side in a home office. I actually chose home delivery and it went as smooth as can be. Everything came undamaged and there are a LOT of boxes and parts when you order this.
Overall my biggest issue is with the quality of the unit. First, some of the hardware is quite cheap. Lots of plastic parts that used to be all metal on IKEA stuff. (Locking nuts and soft close door latches). Second, when you buy this you're actually getting two BESTA units. So I actually received 4. And clear two of the 4 the holes inside are not drilled at 100% the same position, as the doors just don't line up perfectly like they do in the photos. I took them off and tried them a few different times and just can't get them to stay even and lined up. Its a bummer considering I paid over $1100 for two of these units. For sure I would spent the money for the $700-$800 finishes! The size and storage ability is quite impressive.3
Great Storage Cabinet Going on 6 Years!LindaI absolutely love this storage cabinet! I purchased the white bins (KUGGIS) in two different sizes to use in this particular cabinet. Easy to assemble and it holds a lot!
I do recommend using wall brackets to hold it in place if you have small children in your home. We haven't had any issues, but wanted to mention this as the cabinet can be quite heavy when full, so tipping may or may not be an issue. Just a heads-up.
This cabinet is great for storing crafting and other hobby supplies. I use it to store a variety of items for my office, crafting, dog grooming supplies, canned dog food, a variety of small tools, kitchen tools that I don't use often, cleaning supplies, etc.5
I like IKEA but this piece is terribleAnonymous reviewerThis is the single worst piece of IKEA furniture I've encountered. Delivery was smooth and assembly was fairly straightforward. But the finished product is flimsy and sways side to side. I've assembled enough IKEA furniture to know this isn't user error - it just isn't a well thought out product. I separately ordered two stabilizing x-bars and it helped a little. I also ordered and used metal connector CAM fittings instead of the plastic ones there were included (not much improvement). If my kids were still small, I'd be sending it back (too risky). Since I already ordered beautiful legs (Pretty Pegs) and door pulls (Norse), I'm keeping it. Hope I don't regret it. Buyer beware.1
Love My Besta!PattyThis product is sturdy and well made. It is a large unit so it did take us awhile to put it together. But we broke the task up over two days so it wasn’t overwhelming. I love the finished product and the amount storage it provides. I am seriously considering another Besta product for another room in our home. I highly recommend!5
Great storage!!LaurellaThe storage closet is a life saver. I bought this piece base on the reviews. It hold everything. The inside is big enough to hold my kids books and games. I usually put together items I purchased from ikea. Again base off the reviews I just paid a little extra an hire Taskrabbit. He was done in 2 1/2 hours. If you have small kids I do suggest you anchor it to the wall.5
Major Issue with Backing Piece!PravinBig, Big problem with installation of the board @ the back of the cabinet. It took my wife & I the entire day to put together (3) frames! Have never been so frustrated with something that could have been made to work easier. The instructions on how the backing inserts into the slotted area of the sides & top are inaccurate. The backing is too flimsy to slide in & hold as shown, almost near impossible. Plus, the design of the slotted lines are "boxed" in all four sides, another words, you cannot "slide" in the back w/out having all 4 sides assembled. Also, the slots are too tight for the backing to fit. This is a design & manufacturing issue. I would not advise purchasing this product until a design change is made to this part of the assembly process. Otherwise, after we finally got it together it looked & worked as expected.1
I love this storage unit.CathyI love this storage unit. It does not have a bulky appearance. It is very nice, and it matches the color scheme/decor in my house.5
Easy to put together onceMicheleEasy to put together once you figure out pictures - No written instructions5
Doesnt alignGreydenI have to agree with other reviewers. I followed the directions, made sure thing were aligned to the pre-drilled holes, and the Besta cabinet still doesnt align properly. It tilts up at a slant, so all the interior shelves are slanted as well. From far away you cant tell, but when you are close up, you can tell by looking at the shelf alignment is skewed, because the doors align properly. For the high cost, I would NOT recommend it.1
Great StorageJoyceWe recently renovated a 60 year old bathroom that had no storage. This piece was perfect and stylish.5
