very poor assembly instructions KevinI’ve assembled a dozen different ikea products and all have been straight forward.
However, assembly for besta is confusing. The besta is one of IKEA products that can be assembled in different ways so you can configure it to be standing up or down, cabinet doors open left or right, attach it to the wall so that it hangs, etc.
Because there are different ways of configuring the besta you would think IKEA would provide you instructions on how to setup your specific configuration… nope!
The instructions good up until the point you have completed the frame… after that your pretty much on your own on how to attach the doors which is actually complicated because you dont know where the doors should go based on the configuration you want. Oh yeah.. want to hang it on the wall… no instructions on how to do that either.
IKEA please provide more straight forward instructions based on the different configurations for your besta line.
Terrible assemblyDanielThese look great, but they are terrible to assemble. It's worth noting also that you'll need to drill these into the wall.
When I first got these, a part that helps you attach to the wall broke on me, so I just drilled it to the wall by eye.
Fast-forward a year to when I'm moving, and that broken piece really came back to bite me in the rear. I had to order a spare part from ikea, only to find that the broken piece was a bigger issue than I realized. I can't even remove it because the peg broke and that broken peg is now stuck in the wood.
I recommend avoiding this one.
Expected better quality for the price. But still looks niceMatthewI just purchased and assembled 2 of these Besta units to go side by side in a home office. I actually chose home delivery and it went as smooth as can be. Everything came undamaged and there are a LOT of boxes and parts when you order this.
Overall my biggest issue is with the quality of the unit. First, some of the hardware is quite cheap. Lots of plastic parts that used to be all metal on IKEA stuff. (Locking nuts and soft close door latches). Second, when you buy this you're actually getting two BESTA units. So I actually received 4. And clear two of the 4 the holes inside are not drilled at 100% the same position, as the doors just don't line up perfectly like they do in the photos. I took them off and tried them a few different times and just can't get them to stay even and lined up. Its a bummer considering I paid over $1100 for two of these units. For sure I would spent the money for the $700-$800 finishes! The size and storage ability is quite impressive.
Great Storage Cabinet Going on 6 Years!LindaI absolutely love this storage cabinet! I purchased the white bins (KUGGIS) in two different sizes to use in this particular cabinet. Easy to assemble and it holds a lot!
I do recommend using wall brackets to hold it in place if you have small children in your home. We haven't had any issues, but wanted to mention this as the cabinet can be quite heavy when full, so tipping may or may not be an issue. Just a heads-up.
This cabinet is great for storing crafting and other hobby supplies. I use it to store a variety of items for my office, crafting, dog grooming supplies, canned dog food, a variety of small tools, kitchen tools that I don't use often, cleaning supplies, etc.
I like IKEA but this piece is terribleWendyThis is the single worst piece of IKEA furniture I've encountered. Delivery was smooth and assembly was fairly straightforward. But the finished product is flimsy and sways side to side. I've assembled enough IKEA furniture to know this isn't user error - it just isn't a well thought out product. I separately ordered two stabilizing x-bars and it helped a little. I also ordered and used metal connector CAM fittings instead of the plastic ones there were included (not much improvement). If my kids were still small, I'd be sending it back (too risky). Since I already ordered beautiful legs (Pretty Pegs) and door pulls (Norse), I'm keeping it. Hope I don't regret it. Buyer beware.
Love My Besta!PattyThis product is sturdy and well made. It is a large unit so it did take us awhile to put it together. But we broke the task up over two days so it wasn’t overwhelming. I love the finished product and the amount storage it provides. I am seriously considering another Besta product for another room in our home. I highly recommend!
Love it. My only askPoojaLove it. My only ask is the stock is not updated and ordering and planing for your house furniture was a challenge with no visibility on the stock
Great storage!!LaurellaThe storage closet is a life saver. I bought this piece base on the reviews. It hold everything. The inside is big enough to hold my kids books and games. I usually put together items I purchased from ikea. Again base off the reviews I just paid a little extra an hire Taskrabbit. He was done in 2 1/2 hours. If you have small kids I do suggest you anchor it to the wall.
Major Issue with Backing Piece!PravinBig, Big problem with installation of the board @ the back of the cabinet. It took my wife & I the entire day to put together (3) frames! Have never been so frustrated with something that could have been made to work easier. The instructions on how the backing inserts into the slotted area of the sides & top are inaccurate. The backing is too flimsy to slide in & hold as shown, almost near impossible. Plus, the design of the slotted lines are "boxed" in all four sides, another words, you cannot "slide" in the back w/out having all 4 sides assembled. Also, the slots are too tight for the backing to fit. This is a design & manufacturing issue. I would not advise purchasing this product until a design change is made to this part of the assembly process. Otherwise, after we finally got it together it looked & worked as expected.
I love this storage unit.CathyI love this storage unit. It does not have a bulky appearance. It is very nice, and it matches the color scheme/decor in my house.
Easy to put together onceMicheleEasy to put together once you figure out pictures - No written instructions
Doesnt alignGreydenI have to agree with other reviewers. I followed the directions, made sure thing were aligned to the pre-drilled holes, and the Besta cabinet still doesnt align properly. It tilts up at a slant, so all the interior shelves are slanted as well. From far away you cant tell, but when you are close up, you can tell by looking at the shelf alignment is skewed, because the doors align properly. For the high cost, I would NOT recommend it.
Great StorageJoyceWe recently renovated a 60 year old bathroom that had no storage. This piece was perfect and stylish.
Happy to have itSteveHappy to have it
Love it!Verified BuyerI put this in my teenage sons room to cut back on the clutter and it’s a been a great addition! Although it was a little expensive it’s a solid piece!
Met my expectations. I wouldHoraceMet my expectations. I would buy again if I need more storage.
Doors don't line upVerified BuyerI loved the style, but the doors don't line up, which really spoiled the look otherwise everything else is fine. Installing the door was the difficult part.
Disappointed in qualityVerified BuyerI purchased 2 of these to add to a Besta cabinet purchased 6 yrs ago. The quality is flimsy and cabinet wobbly making it difficult to level the doors. There is no structure in the middle to help shore up and align side panels. They push out when screwing in doors. Doors are heavier than sides and difficult to align properly. Had to buy angle brackets to attach shelves to sides so it didn’t bow out in the middle. Not the quality of the one I purchased 6 yrs ago.
Dissapointed! Not Worth the PriceVerified BuyerLet me first say, I am a frequent IKEA customer. I know the quality to expect, particle board, not five star furniture in a sense but very stylish. This storage combination is by far the worst piece of furniture I have ever put together from IKEA. For $400 I expected a little more stability. The whole 'system' is lightweight and shaky, wouldn't be surprised if this is on the recall list soon due to a falling over hazard. Although it's light as a feather! The doors do not line up, because the pre drilled holes are crooked. Try drilling your own and you may split the extremly thin particle board. The only thing I like about it is the walnut effect color, it looks very realistic and pretty. But unfortunalty the focus is on the uneven doors. Also, IKEA instruction guides have always been bad, but again - the WORST IKEA experience putting something together I have ever had. And I consider myself quite handy, all the necessary tools, 2 adults, etc. Unless you are ready to be unsatissfied for $400, don't waste your time
not brownWinnieWe purchased this based on the picture and description - doors like a glossy brown w/black stripes. It is really a grey and doesn't match our house. They didn't deliver all the shelves. Because of Covid-19 the delivery people didn't wait for us to check all the pieces. Neither the delivery company nor IKEA will call us back. Lucky my credit card company is fighting this for me.
