How to create a fun, organized shared family space

It’s challenging to maintain a comfortable, clutter-free space for everyone when you live in a shared home. If you’re frequent hosts of friends and family, and those visits often become sleepovers, doing more with less is even more of a necessity.
Start by thinking of your home in terms of different zones and how they flow. For example, the space shown here was created by IKEA designers in Miami, where warmer weather makes a happy flow between inside and outside a must.

Here are some ideas for designing an organized and fun flow between your entryway, living room and outdoor space. It all starts at the front door.

Welcome to our organized entryway

The second most contested space in a shared home after the bathroom is the entryway. It’s where everyone’s adventures start and stop, so it’s important to keep an organized space with plenty of storage for all. Since everyone’s daily needs are different, and space is limited, use a combination of storage solutions.Incorporating multi-use furniture is a great way to optimize space. For instance, a TOLKNIN ottoman provides a place to sit while taking off shoes and doubles as convenient, closed storage. A VIHALS sideboard will keep everyday items like glasses, keys and wallets organized and easy to access.Having dedicated entryway storage for everyone makes tidying up and staying organized easier – especially for the kids, so they can neatly store their backpacks, shoes and other must-haves for their various sports and hobbies. Closed storage for hanging up jackets and other clothes is essential, too.
