Interior design services for every budget

In addition to our virtual design tool, IKEA Kreativ, and our free planning tools and services, IKEA offers professional, one-on-one interior design for homes and businesses at an affordable price.

Our designers are unable to do in-person meetings; we offer fully virtual interior design services. 

Please email your designer your room floor plan with detailed dimensions, photos and videos of the space. Include photos and dimensions of—or a link to—any furniture you would like incorporated, and complete the questionnaire prior to your intake appointment. If you are unable to provide these items to your designer at least two business days prior to your first appointment, we will cancel the appointment and invite you to come back when you have them. If you need to cancel your first appointment, just click on the cancellation link in your confirmation email. To cancel or reschedule a subsequent appointment with your designer please email your designer directly and provide as much notice as possible. 

A typical design takes three to four weeks to complete, assuming timely receipt of floor plans, accurate and final dimensions, and photos. However, timing varies greatly depending on the size of the project, your availability for appointments and feedback, and your designer’s availability. Please share if you have a completion date in mind and we will do our best to accommodate. 

Your first step is to sign up and pay for your online interior design appointment, selecting a residential or commercial space. Note that short-term or long-term rentals, such as Airbnbs, VRBOs and the like, are considered businesses. Home offices are considered residential.  

Once the appointment is paid for you’ll get a confirmation with a link to a questionnaire via email. Your designer will also reach out via email to introduce themselves and to request floor plans with dimensions, photos and videos of the space, and your complete questionnaire.  

You’ll receive a link to login to a video call at the specified time. In the first call your designer will share a moodboard and a rough plan to create alignment on vision. You’ll continue to meet with your designer remotely for a total of up to three video appointments, via Microsoft Teams, and communicate as needed via email to review floor plans, elevations, and product selections.   

Be sure to involve all stakeholders and decision-makers in these meetings and share feedback on what you do and don’t like in the draft design. Your designer will incorporate your feedback to create a final design package for you consisting of: a mood board, floor plan / layout, product selection, detailed drawings, 3D renderings, and if requested, an offer of services available in your area, such as delivery, assembly, and installation.  

You can purchase your design via your designer’s sales partner and have it delivered. Alternatively, if you live near an IKEA store, you can also choose to pick up your order yourself; choose to Click & Collect your order and we can arrange for the store you select to prepare your order for pick-up. 

You will receive one draft design for your feedback and changes, and one final design package; any additional options are provided at the discretion of the designer. If you request additional options from your designer, these will be charged at $50 per option and should be arranged directly with your designer at their next available opportunity. Please make sure you share as much information and detail about your design needs before and during your first appointment to make the most of your and your designer’s time together.  

Delivery timelines vary depending on product availability and the delivery location. 

Review the layout and all specified items to ensure everything meets your expectations. Then, your designer can schedule a meeting to discuss any adjustments or final tweaks you might want for your one round of revisions. Once everything is finalized, your designer will connect you with a sales partner to process the order, provide estimates on any optional assembly/installation (where available), schedule delivery, and send you a secure payment link. 

Delivery, assembly and installation are additional, and availability varies by location. We are happy to check availability and provide an estimate if you are interested in these services. For assembly, IKEA partners with Task Rabbit; however, you can always secure your own assembly with other independent contractors that might be available in your area. 

IKEA only offers measurement services for kitchen planning, in some markets. We also have a helpful video focused on measuring your kitchen that can be useful for any room. For your interior design project, we’ve created a PDF guide to help you measure and photograph your space. Ask your interior designer to send it to you if needed. Complete, accurate measurements are the basis of a successful design! 

If you’d prefer having someone else measure and Taskrabbit is available in your area, you can also hire a Tasker to measure your space for you. 

Yes, we can design one room, multiple rooms and provide full home designs. Email your designer details, dimensions, square footage for each room and images and we will provide a quote for you. However, to ensure our online interior design services suit your needs, we recommend working with a designer for one room before scheduling an entire home.

Absolutely! Your interior designer can find different ways to meet your interior design needs within your budget. We can also provide cost estimates based on your square footage and past comparable projects. 

While we can suggest color palettes and styles for finishes to provide an overall cohesive design for your space, we cannot recommend any specific product that IKEA does not sell; the one exception is paint, and we always spec Benjamin Moore. We are unable to help you find contractors in your area. As IKEA interior designers, we only specify IKEA products and services. 

We will be happy to make revisions or provide alternative options after your final appointment; however, these will be charged at $50 per option and should be arranged directly with your designer at their next available opportunity. If you would like a full redesign, please book a new service. You can request to work with the same or a different interior designer for your new service.  

Since your design is likely to include many items, there is always the possibility that not all products are available in one place; having an IKEA coworker with you to help finalize the purchase is recommended to ensure all products get ordered. If there are any products included in your design recommendation that you don’t wish to purchase or additional items you’d like to add, your list can be revised before ordering.
