Tall loft bed, get help with assemblyBenjaminThe bed it tall and sturdy. My daughter loves her new bed. The desk is a nice touch and helpful. Assembly was long and tedious. I had to hang from the bed at points to get holes to line up. If you are not very handy just get someone else to install for you. 4
Assembly was fine! Look closely at diagramsBrynnaJust leaving this review in response to the many that mentioned holes not lining up. It would definitely be helpful if IKEA had labeled the poles with letters, but if you read the instructions/study the diagrams carefully everything DOES go together with holes aligning. :) We put together two of these yesterday and it took a very long time but there was minimal frustration as far as the design of the product. These are very solid - I hadn’t seen them in person before purchase and they’re sturdier than I expected them to be from photos. 5
OK not greatSandiInstructions were vague at best, pieces did not line up properly at all so one section cannot be secured with the provided hardware, took too long and too many people to complete the assembly. Overall the product is just OK. It functions but it could be a lot better3
Great bed for the priceAbigailI'm really happy with the look and sturdiness of this bed. It took some time to assemble, and I needed a second person for a couple of key moments, but it was do-able. The only downside I found was the need for such a thin mattress that really only a foam mattress would be possible (not inner spring).5
Great bedKateMy son loves this new bed and it really clears up space in his room5
Worst, very hard installVenkatFirst of all installation guide book is not intuitive at all. I have installed so many furniture by myself but this is my first time I got stuck completely on the first move I wasted almost 4 hours to figure out and fainted. Then planned to call a installer, installer came next day. He said is professional installer who at least installs 2 furniture a day from IKEA. He took 6 hours to install this bed. Please stay away. Installer got frustrated at last. Not sure how this got 4 star in first place.1
Perfect for 7 yo girlKerryDefinitely a two person job but we put it together in about 4 hours. In fact, we found the instructions to be fine IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH IKEA STYLE INSTRUCTIONS. By which I mean being mindful of the tips like which direction the holes face etc. And: do be careful not to tighten the screws all the way til everything is together, leave about a quarter inch undone. If you don't, yes, the holes won't line up. The hardest part was getting the uprights thru the fabric slots and into the holes: the fabric slots are too tight, this is the only part we felt was a truly bad design, PLEASE CONSIDER FIXING THIS. Otherwise, very sturdy once the screws are tight, and our grand daughter loves it. Just be patient. Also, we found it very helpful to count the screws beforehand and put them into bowls, then use the parts chart to figure out which screw to use where: each screw type has a long code number which is noted at each point in the instructions.5
i say it comfe andDonaldi say it comfe and the instruchins are very good this was this was writin by a child5
Sturdy and solid, assembly is not a problemValentinI’ve assembled two of these. I am experienced with IKEA furniture, but would not call this assembly hard. Things to remember: 1) there is a mistake in the manual with page numbers. When it tells you to jump to a page, the page numbers are wrong. You can figure it out. 2) don’t tighten the screws as the manual says, until you have assembled the whole thing. 3) it will take 3 hours per piece, prepare morally. You can speed up the process with a good set of tools. I put in screws by hand, then screw it with a power drill, then finish with regular screwdriver. 4) you will need a second person for couple of moments. The bed is great, worth the time.5
Great bed for my sonSarahMy son had his own room but with the arrival of his new little brother this bed was a great price for the space that is saved he didn't have to lose his dest or downsize any of his stuff!5
Cute bed not well madeMelissaIt took 4 people with lots of prior ikea furniture assembling experience 6 hours to put this bed together. The problem was many of the holes did not line up at all. At completion some of the screws just could not be screwed in all the way. Would not recommend because the craftsmanship was just not good. Why make a bed where the holes won’t line up. Not much wiggle room here when dealing with metal. We bought two of these and decided after putting one together - we are disassembling it today and returning both of them.2
So much funJohannaMy son is enjoying his loft bed. He has his little man cave that he loves to do creative things in.5
Very Nice!!!!YolandaIt is a very nice bed. A little hard to assemble but we did it. You will definitely need two people to do this job When is done, it is beautiful and my daughter loves it!! She is very happy and thats all that really matters5
Most horrible installation guideAditiWe have bought most of the big furniture from IKEA with most easy installation guide. This bed took nearly 10hours for me and my husband to install and reinstall due to most complicated steps and difficult installation guide. It so happened due to an incorrect step, we had to redo bunch of steps in that process one side of the bed flipped and banged on the wall and fell on my husband leg. He got a bad sprain and damaged the wall and wardrobe door. Very disappointed with the installation guide. Just because my daughter was super existed and our effort spent on installation, we continued to complete rest else at a point had decided to return this item. Overall bed is okay and gives screeching sound when my daughter moves in her sleep. Apparently the sound once was so loud that she woke up in the middle of the night. Now she is now kind of use to the screeching. I would not recommend this big due to injury and damage.1
Bed for 11 yr oldKristineAll went smooth until the wood slats.4
Game ChangerGFor 2 kids that were sharing a hacked kura bunk bed, this effectively created 2 separate spaces while providing a much needed office space for my oldest. I knowingly bought this after reading a review that called this item a root canal in a box, and can confirm that it was indeed, a root canal in a box—thankfully I kept the screws loose enough until the end to make sure everything aligned ;) The end result is sturdy, minimalist, and highly functional. Read your directions well, don’t tighten anything, and block out an afternoon when you have 2-3 hours to dedicate.5
Almost tall enough for an adultJacobThese are working really well in my house. They were not the easiest to assemble, but not horribly difficult either.5
So sturdy!JessicaI’m 24 living at home and this bed saved me SO MUCH SPACE. Took a while to put together but the instructions aren’t as bad as other reviews say. It’s common sense stuff and it DOES say to not tighten the screws until the end. Very happy with it. Also, my mattress is 6” thick and it fit JUST FINE.5
Exactly what we neededAnonymousI bought 2 of these for my middle school age daughters to maximize the space in their bedroom. First one was a little tricky to assemble, second one took half the time! If you buy this, do NOT tighten any of the screws until it is fully put together otherwise the holes don’t line up at all. Seriously, leave everything less than hand tightened until the very end.5
Good for small roomAnonymousWe have a similar IKEA bed with the same kind of ladder. The rungs were made more comfortable by wrapping tightly with soft thick rope.5

VITVAL Loft bed frame with desk top, white/light gray, Twin

More relaxing, less materials

Where do your children spend most of their waking hours at home? Quite likely the answer is in their bed. Because when life for slightly older children today often revolves around phones, tablets and friends, a lot more space than that “hub” isn’t really needed. With VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed, we wanted to make comfortable and cozy beds for all children who prefer hanging out there. But the goal was also to considerably reduce the amount of materials to save on nature's resources.

Metal is a durable and stable material and really suited VITVAL bed frames. The question was just how much we could reduce the amount of the metal used without decreasing stability and safety. Product developer Anna Carme and her colleagues performed detailed calculations and safety tests. "We came a long way", says Anna. "But it was not enough ― we thought the bed frames were still too heavy."

30% less metal

Experimenting with materials led to the team replacing the bed's edges with fabric. This meant that they managed to reduce the amount of metal by almost one third compared to similar beds. "We found a strong polyester material that also gives the bed a nice and cozy feel ― both when the children hang out there with friends and when it’s time to sleep."

Easy to assemble

"The fabric is mounted on the frame", explains Anna. "And to ensure that the assembly is simple for all parents, we invited a number of people to test it out." The tests then led to the team dividing the fabric into sections and making the yellow edge bands more flexible so that they are easier to pull on. "I love playing detective, to look for and investigate what we have for different alternatives", says Anna. "Nothing beats the feeling when you finally find a good solution."

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.

Form design process

More relaxing, less materials

The idea with VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed was to make comfortable and cozy beds for all children who like hanging out with their phones, tablets and friends. But we also wanted to save on nature’s resources and limit the amount of metal in the beds. So how do you achieve two so different goals at the same time? Our solution was to make the bed edges out of a strong polyester fabric that gave the bed a nice and cozy feel ― and we thereby reduced the metal by 30% in each bed.
