Even though laminate is a durable material you should never place hot pots or pans directly on the countertop without a trivet or pot stand.

Not suitable for use in damp rooms.

Care

Wipe clean with a soft cloth dampened with water and a mild dish detergent or soap, if necessary.

Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

Do not place a toaster, coffee maker, kettle or other kitchen appliances that emit heat directly over a seam between two countertops because the heat can damage the seam.

To prevent permanent stains on the countertop, wipe clean spills or messes immediately with a soft cloth dampened in water and a mild washing-up detergent or soap.

Safety and compliance

Supporting legs are required when an overhang exceeds 10". The maximum distance between these legs should not be more than 32".

Ekbacken quality has gone downAnonymousI bought this Ekbacken laminate countertop because I have used this product before, but the quality feels inferior to the my previous purchase. This one has a more paper feel and very matte in color. Not very happy with it, but since it’s for my basement I will keep it.2
Laminate countertopRobinReally like this countertop material but wish you could buy more edge banding material for situations where you have an exposed bar top and need a finished edge. (It comes with enough edge banding to cover cut ends but not the long side)4
Rehab countertopBrendaThis is my second purchase of these countertops for a rehab kitchen. The first countertops purchased about 9 months prior were a solid, durable washable surface. The second purchase for another kitchen felt like mat paper. I trust IKEA products so I had it installed and hope that it holds up. But what happened to the original materials2
Beautiful BUT doesn’t hold up well to sink/dishwasherBrianI bought these for a secondary kitchen in my home’s bonus room which consists of a small microwave, sink and dishwasher. They have been installed for about 18 months and I have significant swelling of the underside of the countertop over the sink and dishwasher. I made sure to purchase a dishwasher that doesn’t emit steam and also am extremely careful in keeping them dry. The actual top of the countertops are beautiful and look high end! I just wish the undersides were more resistant to your typical kitchen, especially one that is seldomly used.2

Not a smooth, cleanable surface!MonicaThe surface of this countertop really surprised me. It feels and looks like paper! It has no coating on it whatsoever, so I’m not sure how it’s going to hold up. I’m sure it can be cleaned or IKEA wouldn’t sell it for a kitchen counter but thank goodness I’m not using it in my kitchen! (It’s in my office, on a credenza.) I feel like I got a manufacture defect (a countertop without a protective coating) but since I got 2 of these and they were identical, I guess that’s how they come. There is nothing in the product description that warns you about this either. Even if it says “matte” somewhere, that doesn’t adequately describe that it feels like paper. So head my warning if you are expecting something smooth that you can wipe off. This product is definitely not that and I wish I had known that.2
Quality That Mattered When It Counted MostSandraAbout a week after we installed these countertops, our dog accidentally started a kitchen fire while trying to pull down a pizza. My husband came home to a house filled with smoke, rushed in to save our pets, and discovered the fire had been burning for over an hour. While IKEA does not market these countertops as flame-retardant or state explicitly that they prioritize flame safety, the quality of the materials made a critical difference. Only about two feet of the countertop was scorched. Had these countertops been cheaply made, we would have been facing a far more devastating outcome. I am incredibly grateful IKEA did not cut corners on materials, as their quality likely prevented a much worse situation for our home and our pets. For this reason, I cannot recommend these countertops enough! Thank you IKEA!!!5

Made betterTerri LEkbacken terrazzo countertop is lovely. Someone asked me if it was stone ! The veneer is a fairly thick melamine, slightly textured. I installed it on top of Ikea black open storage base cabinets making a nice rich pairing. Easy to work with (Follow ikea instructions ). Cleans easily . I think the surface will hold up against use and most abuse . The main color is smoky gray that is interrupted with lighter shades of many grays to slightly white . The color is perfect for my kitchen and lends itself to almost any kitchen color palette if you like terrazzo - the quality exceeds my expectations. I’m super happy with my choice . IKEA didn’t let me down on quality . Life made better .5
