Affordable but miserable assembly experienceDanielI bought this shelf for extra storage in the kitchen and it looks nice and is very affordable with a $22 price tag but the assembly experience is not enjoyable, especially if you are doing so as one person.
The sheet metal shelves are loosely folded so getting all the screws to align is very cumbersome and acts as a workout if you are looking for that.
Overall I like what the end product is but I would pay more for a premium version with better machining tolerances.3
Buyer beware!LauraVery weak and unstable. I would not suggest purchasing this at all. I had to throw it away.1
ABSOLUTE PIECE OF JUNKSeanThe metal is warped, the screws are too big for tiny holes that do no line up at all. DO NOT BUY THIS POORLY MADE PRODUCT!!1
Difficult instalationYarrowGreat little deal I suppose. Purchased 2, and returned the 2nd due to it taking forever to assemble. 3
Great on my sunporch!RoslynI needed additional storage on my screened in porch so I put 2 of these together to make an outdoor console table and now have a space for gardening supplies and seasonal decor that doesn’t take up a lot of space.5
I’m a fanBrandonIt was very easy to set up, but you do you need a drill to make it easy.5
No issues assembling JenNot sure what all the drama is about. This was super easy to build, sturdy, and is perfect for my garden. It just requires some patience and common sense. Square the frame, add the lateral screws fist, tighten them, and the other holes line up fine. I did this with a regular screw driver in 15 mins. For what it’s worth I’m a woman with no building experience outside of IKEA furniture. 5
Simple solutionHeatherWe bought multiple of these for our pantry closet. The price is the main reason we purchased these because we needed a few. They seemed very basic and I worried about how sturdy they would be. After a very easy assembly and loading them with all our pantry items, they have proven to be a very simple solution for our pantry. I used zip ties to hold the shelves together. They don't seem to pose a tip risk as I had originally worried. But they could easily be secured to the wall to eliminate any risk. Overall a simple and cheap solution that I am satisfied with.5
defectiveMariI'm sure this would be a nice shelf unit. The holes don't line up, so it's unusable. Returning2
Influencees bewareBrendanDEINFLUENCER 🚨. This thing is a piece of garbage. I see people use this for displaying things in their living room. It is unbelievably flimsy, I am shooketh actually how flimsy and easily dented this thing is. It’s not a malleable as tin foil but it is very close. Would not recommend unless you’re truly using it for plants outside. Do not think you can put this in your living room, you will be extremely disappointed.1
Ideal for storageDianaEasy to assemble! Great value for the price5
Can’t assembleDeannaI’ve had this shelf over 2 years and can’t figure out how to assemble it 1
Perfeft shelfCherisThis is the perfect shelf! I used it as a tv stand and it’s perfect for trinkets, lamps, etc. would buy again! :)5
Great product, use a power drill for assemblyFabianI read the reviews saying it was impossible to put together. I’m glad I wasn’t discouraged, because it was more or less straightforward to do so using a power drill. Some holes won’t line until you tighten the lateral screws, this will put the posterior screws in place. Even so, some screws would need to initially enter the hole in an angle, this is not a problem using power tools, but can see how it’d be frustrating using just a screwdriver.
It took me less than 30 minutes to put two of these together without any previous prior experience assembling Hyllis shelves. The assembled product looks very sturdy and clean. I’m very happy about the results.5
Drills holes completely off, shelf edges bentJudyI bought a while ago, finally opened and tried to assemble. Impossible. Shelf edges are splayed outward and holes in posts don't fit holes in shelves. No way to redrilling holes in metal. 🥺 complete waste of time trying to make it work.1
Don't let it beat youAvarieUseful enough as shelves for our small greenhouse, but somehow, out of IKEA's entire catalogue, a 23" shelf with 7 pieces is their most irritating and frustrating product to assemble. (And I've put together *a lot* of IKEA furniture.)
You need two pairs of hands, an impact driver, and ideally a clamp or two to put this together or it will ruin your day.2
NIGHTMARETiffanyWhy don’t the holes line up? I had to rent an impact drill and was barely able to put one together. I have two more shelves i was never able to put together. -1000/10 would not recommend. 1
Use a table and Phillips headJillianAlmost gave up after starting to put this together on the floor. You need the leverage of table height to hold pieces together and will need to shift things a little to get them aligned. Twist screws in with your fingers first to get started, then use Phillips head screwdriver. The holes do eventually align as you screw parts together and straighten it out. Don’t need any fancy tools, just some patience and height. By the end I was more frustrated with the rubber feet than the screws! Glad to have this on my balcony for shoes and plants.4
Fun shelvesAnonymousAfter putting together a tall unit, we learned a lot. We purchased two of these for our enclosed porch. They are working as we hoped.5
Power Tools a MUST!JohnAfter reading many of the other reviews, I went in expecting to have a difficult build - and I did! For me the key was getting the screws in enough to bite into all 4 shelves from all 4 legs. Once it was 'lined up'-ish, I tightened with a Pozidriv bit in an impact gun. The rest of the holes were at least partially visible at that point. As long as I could get the tip of the screw in the remainder of the holes, the impact gun would pull the shelves into alignment. Not an easy one!3
