I use them as kitchenTaylorI use them as kitchen shelves and they work really well!5
The best little shelf!AlexiaGalvanized steel ensure this shelf can hold a LOT of terra cotta pots. Just make sure to secure to wall!!!5
need more direction on screwsGinnyIt looks great when it's done. Took a bit to figure out how to tighten the screws so it all comes togeter.3
Not very strongDeonicaNot very strong4
TrashMikahHoles don’t line up. The shelves came bent. Do Not Buy. Not worth the headache1
Inexpensive, light, waterproof, and suitable for outdoor-indoor useBjsThis shelving (and its shorter companion) is Inexpensive, light, waterproof, and suitable for outdoor-indoor use (if you don't mind the retro/industrial look. A great, versatile product. I hope IKEA does not discontinue it.5
Great product for the priceLolaThis is a great product for the price. Bonus is it doesn't rust. The setback is a lot of tony screws5
TerribleBerthaTook longer than expected to assemble because as mentioned in other reviews the holes do not line up and once you manage to force it together it's definitely not "sturdy" as advertised. It's a wobbly, warped, flimsy accident waiting to happen.1
Well Made ShelvesDennisWell constructed. Screw placement all spot on. Being of metal material if things are out of alignment a tap of two with a light hammer is all that’s necessary to align the holes. I put together 5 units. Helps to build them on a workbench as opposed to the floor. Easier 0n the knees.5
Do not buyAndreaI wish i would of read the reviews sooner so I wouldn’t have wasted my money on these shelves. The holes don’t align at all. Why hasn’t this been fixed after all the reviews ?1
hard to assemblyEthanthe whole shelf is good and sturdy, but the assemb ly process is a pain. each part doesn't fit smoothly with other part, which needs a lot of push and pull to get the job done.2
Small space answerGeorgeThese shelves fit perfectly in a small space and give you a nice amount of storage4
Holes do not line upEmikoI managed to make the shelf after over an hour trying to put the screws in. The holes do not line up, the screws barely screw in because of this, and the sides of the shelf part are bent out which makes it even more difficult to make. It’s possible to build this shelf, however it requires your own ingenuity and force to do so.1
ConvenientCarolMany users have reviewed this as impossible to assemble, but having put together (and subsequently taken apart) quite a few units of all 3 sizes I know it is just a matter of patience and after some strategically placed screws it comes together with no problems. They can be a bit wobbly at times with weight not equally distributed.4
Not Easy to Assemble, But Did ItAndrewI think the main issue that I had was that the pieces were slightly bent, making it off centered for the holes to be aligned. Following the instructions lead to nowhere so I ended up ratcheting up a way to piece it together. I think the key thing is to force the pieces together till you see a sliver of a hole and angle the nail so it fits in.. it’s okay if it’s slanted bc as you tighten, it’ll slowly align.. play with loosening it and smacking the shelf piece till it fits. Remember it’s steel so it can handle some force. Nonetheless, it was quite challenging so take it slow3
Could not assembleDianaThe one time that I didn't read the reviews. I like many others was unable to align the shelves to the braces. And the screws themselves would barely fit the holes. Even if the had lined up I doubt the tiny screws would be able to hold the weight of the potted plants I intended to place on them. In the warehouse I found a great wood folding table to use instead. It cost the same as the shelf already assembled. Shelves are going back1
It would be helpful if the screw holes lined upPatriciaVery frustrating assembly. The holes don’t line up to be able to get the screws in. I think I am going to drill new holes because returning this will be a pain. What a pain.2
Easy to assemble. Convenient sizeSumitaI like it because it is easy to assemble and convenient.4
Multi-functional shelf - missing plastic feets!PamI bought 3 set of shelves with two sets not include plastic feet!!?? Installation is not straight forward. Will recommend if you can put up with these minor annoyances so be warned!3

HYLLIS creates room for life on the balcony

Some of us live smaller than we’d like. It often means a constant hunt for more space. So why not try and use the space we have in smarter ways? This was something our product developers wanted to help out with when they created a small version of HYLLIS – a shelf that fits almost anywhere – and can be used if you want to grow your own herbs and small plants.

Philip Dilé, one of the members in the development team behind HYLLIS, live in an apartment with balcony in southern Sweden. “My balcony is filled with stuff. I’d like to use it for something other than storage, and I think many of our customers feel the same way.”

Cover from the elements

To shield our balconies from weather, wind and exhaust fumes, it usually isn’t enough with the protection from the neighbor above. That’s why the team decided to create a cover for HYLLIS. They made it transparent and added ventilation holes. It makes it possible to use the cover and the shelf as a greenhouse.

Become a balcony farmer

“I grow herbs myself. It saves money and it’s fun to see life sprout on your own balcony. I think people who live in cities should be able to grow small plants and herbs too, even if they don’t have access to a garden,” says Philip. With HYLLIS shelf and cover they can do it in a small scale and use the balcony for more things than storing – a greener life and a smarter use of space at home.

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
