They made it transparent and added ventilation holes. It makes it possible to use the cover and the shelf as a greenhouse.

Need a welder to complete this…AlexUnsure why this has such high reviews. The holes do not align from shelves to legs, the shelves have protruding metal edges which you need to hammer to align the legs otherwise you cannot align the screw holes. Force alone when adding the screws does not align the shelves to the legs. I shop a lot at ikea as a landlord and this is by far the worst unit I have ever bought. If you want a real review this is it, you need a metal welder to finish it as you will only manage to get 60% of the screws in and end up with a lopsided unit. Save your money as it will last a week max!

impossible to put together!UrsulaTo start with 32 screws, but only 16 holes!?! I've tried to follow the instructions, which say not to fix the screws until the very end, but the screws keep falling out. If you make it to step 3, the holes do not match any more, and the whole thing is totally unstable. It's cheap, but it's totally worthless. Would not even recommend this to my worst enemy!

HYLLIS creates room for life on the balcony
Some of us live smaller than we’d like. It often means a constant hunt for more space. So why not try and use the space we have in smarter ways? This was something our product developers wanted to help out with when they created a small version of HYLLIS – a shelf that fits almost anywhere – and can be used if you want to grow your own herbs and small plants.
Philip Dilé, one of the members in the development team behind HYLLIS, live in an apartment with balcony in southern Sweden. “My balcony is filled with stuff. I’d like to use it for something other than storage, and I think many of our customers feel the same way.”

“I grow herbs myself. It saves money and it’s fun to see life sprout on your own balcony. I think people who live in cities should be able to grow small plants and herbs too, even if they don’t have access to a garden,” says Philip. With HYLLIS shelf and cover they can do it in a small scale and use the balcony for more things than storing – a greener life and a smarter use of space at home.
