How does sofa planning work?

IKEA sofa planning is a free service, available both in-store and online. A sofa planning session lasts approximately 45 minutes. You can also plan the sofa solution you want using one of our free online planners.

During your session, you'll meet an IKEA sofa expert in your favourite IKEA store or online, from the comfort of your own home. The expert will help you create a sofa that is customized in comfort, style and space
How it works:
  1. Get inspired. Spend some time browsing sofa and seating ideas to get inspired or start your own plan with our online sofa and seating planners

If you use one of our online planners to design your sofa, make sure to save the design code. You will need it to edit your design later or to use it during a planning session with an Expert. You can find the planning code at the bottom of the page by selecting "Summary". If you prefer to receive a link or an email with your specific design and planning code, select "Share" and follow the onscreen steps.
  2. Book a session You can choose to book your session online or at your nearest IKEA store. The planning session lasts approximately 45 minutes.
  3. Measure your space. Your IKEA expert will need details about the space or room. Record the height, width and depth measurements, as well as the positions and dimensions of electrical outlets, doors and windows, so that we can consider the best way for your sofa to meet your needs in space.
  4. What do you need? Make a list of all your essential needs and desires for the ideal sofa.
  5. Take pictures. A drawing or a photograph of the space where you want to place the new sofa can be very useful.
  6. Need to reschedule or cancel your session? Use the link in the confirmation email if you need to reschedule or cancel your planning session. Please do it with at least 1 hour in advance of the scheduled time.
  7. Talk about your dreams and desires with an IKEA expert during the session. You will receive a shopping list with everything you need to complete your order.
  8. Take some time to evaluate your planning and next steps. You can make changes to the design if necessary by accessing the plan that was sent to you by email. Once you're happy with the final planning, visit an IKEA store or online to complete your order.
