Consent to the use of cookies and data transfers to the US

Cookies that are not strictly necessary to provide you with the services on our website will only be used with your consent. In some cases, pseudonymous personal data collected via cookies can be transferred by us or our data processors to the US. For example, in the case of Google Analytics cookies, our data processor in the EU Google Ireland Ltd transfers personal data to its sub-processor Google LLC in the US. By agreeing to the use of cookies from these data processors and sub-processors, you also expressly consent to the transfer of your data to the US (Article 49(1)(a) of the GDPR).

The European Commission has not issued an adequacy decision for the US. We and our data processors cannot provide suitable guarantees for an adequate level of data protection in the US either. This can result in risks to you because you cannot enforce your rights as a data subject, data shared with the US providers may be further processed for other purposes, and there may be disproportionate access to your data by the US authorities. Nevertheless, we put in place comprehensive additional measures where possible to increase the level of data protection when your data is transferred to the US. With respect to Google Analytics example referred above we:

  • Do not share your data with Google companies for benchmarking and product development purposes
  • Enabled IP anonymization functionality which removes the last part of your IP address to further protect your confidentiality
  • Entered into a contract, including a Data Processing Agreement, with Google Ireland Ltd and rely on the comprehensive set of technical, organisational and contractual measures in place with respect to their data transfer to Google LLC in the US (see here).
