Number of photos in a collage
There are no fixed rules for collages, but they generally look better when they have five or more smaller pictures. You can also arrange a group of three larger pictures very attractively in a group. A collage photo frame arrangement can cover an entire wall of the room.
Best spot for a collage
A collage is easy to view when it is at or slightly above eye level. Choose a spot where your collage looks attractive and not squeezed in-between furniture. A wall that is easy to access makes it quicker to clean the frames and refresh the pictures in the collage. Consider how much light the collage will get by day and night. A brighter spot makes the pictures easier to appreciate. Think creatively and examine your home for unconventional opportunities to fill a wall with a collage. Consider if the theme of the collage photo frame group is appropriate for the room chosen.
Collage themes
A collage looks best when there is a common theme that runs through it. The theme could be as simple as a collection of family photos or pictures of your children. They could also be favourite prints and paintings with something in common; style, medium, theme or colour. You can also frame different themed pictures in similar frames for a cohesive effect. To see how the images work together, lay them all on the floor side-by-side or stand them up against a wall or sofa and view them.
Collage and frame colours
A collage that repeats the accent colour of the room makes the entire space cohesive and attractive. Choose the frame finish or colour to match the furniture in the room. Frames of different styles can be used together if they are of the same colour.
Arranging a collage
A collage can be arranged freeform or uniformly. A uniform arrangement should be hung with great precision to have the best effect. A freeform collage is more forgiving. It is important to ensure that your freeform arrangement has enough wall space between pictures to look its best.
To finalise a collage arrangement, you can have friends and family help you hold up the pictures against the wall. In case you have more pictures than volunteers, you could experiment with a collage arrangement by rearranging the pictures on the floor till you are satisfied with the result. This arrangement then has to be centred on the chosen wall. Use a measuring tape, a level and painters tape to outline the image layout on the wall precisely before installing the hardware to hang them. Don’t forget to remove the painter’s tape before hanging them up.
Easiest collage
The most straightforward way to create a collage with minimal work is to use a pre-made collage photo frame such as the KNOPPÄNG collage frame. These frames are pre-arranged and fixed in what appears to be a random arrangement. All you have to do is place your pictures in them and hang them up as one unit. If you want a larger collage arrangement, use more collage photo frames. Hanging two or three sets of the same collage photo frame is still simpler than hanging each frame individually.
