Product details

The mesh material of the backrest lets air through, which is extra nice when a match drags on.

This ergonomic gaming chair has lots of functions that allow you to easily adapt the chair to your body.

Adjustable headrest – Relieves the neck and shoulders.

Adjustable lumbar support – Promotes good posture and reduces strain on lower back.

Adjustable armrests (3D) – Help you to find comfortable positions for arms and shoulders. Adjustable height, width and pivot.

The armrests are attached to the backrest, so they recline together with the backrest to provide support for various activities like when you’re playing on your phone.

Automatic tension – Adjusts the resistance of the backrest based on your body weight.

Synchronised tilt tension – Moves with you as you recline, opening the hips and torso to improve circulation and energy.

Tilt Lock (4 positions) – Locks the chair at different angles for added stability and support.

Adjustable seat depth – Allows you to adapt the chair to better support your thighs and back.

Height adjustable seat – For a comfortable sitting position regardless of body height.

Safety function – Castors lock when the chair is not in use to keep it securely in place.

The base contributes to both movement and stability – and works as a footrest too.

Reviews

Perfect for Gaming Anonymous reviewerIdeal gaming chair, comfortable, and the mesh stops you overheating during long gaming sessions! A bit expensive for a single chair but happy with the purchase overall. 5
Impossible to clean!Anonymous reviewerok- I totally got this chair because it was purple! It seemed brilliant at first but there are just a few quirks... as mentioned by others, the locking wheels are an absolute nightmare when it comes to tucking in/ pulling out the chair. the armrests move all the time, even when I don't mean for them to. there's a klonk when I move about on it - apparently this chair not ADHD fidgetter friendly. The biggest annoyance though is trying to keep it clean! It's a dust magnet, especially in the headrest, where the adjustment for the back support is and also as the arms and back scoop to meet the main chair support. 3
Hurts after long useage.Anonymous reviewerI frist thought this chair was great, but after using it for many months, it now hurts my legs. Thier is a hard plasic with screws at the front of the seat which dig into your thigh muscles. The chair rocks from the base now making it feel like a cheap brand and the arm rests have big dents were my elbows have rested. I would not recomending buyting this chair. it sits not used now what a weaste of money.,1
Cool and comfortableAnonymous reviewerGreat chair for home office. Looks cool, and the mesh is firm but comfortable for long days at the computer.5
Comfort wore out after some useAnonymous reviewerThis was a great chair when I first bought it, but after a short time the plastic "support" under the front of the seat seems to have bent over time, and now it just digs into the back of my thighs. I'm not even sure if it's a piece I could replace, because it's my only real fault... other than the headrest becoming loose every now and again, but that seems to be a complaint everyone has.3
Please, don't buy itAnonymous reviewerUnfortunately, I bought this chair, although there are many better analogues for that price. The build quality is good, but for all that it is wildly inconvenient. There is a plastic part sticking out under the seat (useless in my opinion), which digs into the legs and when sitting for a long time and/or with enough weight, the legs simply begin to cramp. This is despite the fact that you are sitting! Wow, I haven't been this uncomfortable in a long time.2
Sturdy, Comfortable and Fully FeaturedAnonymous reviewerThe Styrspel was easy to assemble, and had all the features I was looking for from a mesh chair at half the price of other brands. Moreover, contrary to ikea reputation this chair feels EXTREMELY sturdy, and offers great support. The heavy, powder coated metal frame feels premium and looks great in my home office. 5
Love this chairAnonymous reviewerVery comfortable and easy to set up. 5
Excellent chair for long sessionsAnonymous reviewerHaving found myself spending many hours at the computer I decided that my otherwise excellent Ikea RENBERGET chair was no longer good enough. It didn't go quite as high as I needed so I had a cushion on it, the fixed arms got in the way, and I missed a headrest. I looked at many, many chairs designed for sitting on for long periods; they were mostly 'gaming' chairs and expensive. I sat on a few, not that good, and saw this one when visiting Ikea. As soon as I sat on it I knew this was the one - lots of adjustments, good height, headrest. Having bought and built it (really quite easy) and used it for a few weeks I'm even more impressed. Comfortable, I love the moveable arm rests, the head rest is ideal when relaxing in the chair for a bit, the forwards/rearwards adjustment of the seat allows for some really fine adjustment of the sitting position, the back locks at a number of angles - and it was one of the cheapest 'gaming' chairs I looked at.5
Beautiful office chair. Anonymous reviewerBought it for my daughter's desk in her bedroom. Can't say for the assembly as a friend did it for me, but he didn't complain. It's awesome, only that on a carpet doesn't roll well which is something I was afraid of. 5
Very good and easy to assembleAnonymous reviewerThis chair is very good, doesn't look cheap and with a help of a drill with screw attachments I built this chair in 10 minutes. I work from home 4x a week, this allows me to control the height of both seat and arm rests. 3 years warranty too which is 2 more years than the usual chairs you buy on other websites, so I really recomment this. I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and using this chair to adjust my height and position really helps with my pain after a long day of work.5
Good idea, terrible executionAnonymous reviewerThe headrest supplied was impossible to assemble - the combination of materials and the angle they meet thanks to the design means you are infinitely more likely to strip the supplied screw than manage to get it to thread, and it seems that for many that do manage so this screw gradually gets stripped of its threading through use. I've had lots of Ikea products I love, including a desk that's served me well for 13 years, but I was sorely disappointed in this failure of execution in the context of an otherwise solidly built chair, especially at the premium price.1
Uncomfortable Chair - not for everyone!Anonymous reviewerThe chair is made for very tall people. Unfortunately they don't say anything on the advertisement. I contacted Ikea support and they told me that once it is assembled the item cannot be returned. So, it's basically waste of money for me.1
Good for long legs. Failed to reinvent the wheel.Anonymous reviewerI am quite tall, and this is one of the only office chairs I could find at a sensible price with an adjustable seat length which means the whole length of my thigh is supported. That part is great, and the only reason I have not returned it. However, the designer has fundamentally misunderstood what wheels are for on a chair. You can only move the chair when your body weight is on it, as this unlocks the brakes. Pointless when you want to push the chair up against the desk at the end of the day or quickly move it around in a small home office. I have no idea what problem these locking wheels are trying to solve - I can't think of a single occasion in my life where a chair with free-rolling wheels has caused me an issue. This choice to have locking wheels annoys me every single day. Additionally, they seem to be a non-standard fitting so you can't replace them with proper ones. Ikea, please sell non-locking wheels as an option for this chair.3
Super comfy butAnonymous reviewerI tried this chair and it's really comfortable, if you have the space. The 71cm diameter base is a monster and the colours are unappealing.3
It's OKAnonymous reviewerI'm not hugely knowledgeable when it comes to chairs, it's a minefield of preferences and price points - but 4 months down & I'm a bit disappointed. Good material, breathable and soft enough. I regularly sit for 10 + hrs and don't find myself getting uncomfortable with anything - despite it not getting warm enough yet to warrant the breathability! It was easy to build and, while I agree that it's a strange design, I had no issues with the screw on the headrest - it's about the angle of the screw. it's a little awkward but the screw does not thread itself home if you're trying it vertically. It needs an inward angle IIRC. My major bear with it is on the adjustability - gaps between 'lock in' points are too large. Butt-slide adjustments are enormous, meaning there's about 3 reasonable choices, and the angling/recline of the back is the same. It's also a bit rocky/clicky when locked in. Doesn't 'feel solid'. Still might return it if that's possible without packaging this far gone.3
Good but not perfect.Anonymous reviewerI've had this chair a few months now - I spend a lot of time at my PC for work, university and gaming so i wanted something comfortable. This is comfortable but there are a few niggles: The headrest screw is clearly an issue across the board, ours is rubbish too and just doesn't fit but it's still usable. The arm rests are too short. Granted, i am only 5ft 4 but there might as well not be any arms. The wheels. Why. Just why. The wheels lock unless you are sat on the chair, so tucking the chair in and pulling it out is an absolute nightmare.. I can't imagine how this would ever be useful. I did read others complaining about it and thought it couldn't be that bad but it's enough to make me deliberately check and avoid this feature in future! Otherwise, it does do its job and i'm hopeful it will continue to do so.4
Middle of the road. Could be better.Anonymous reviewerPleased with a lot of the features, but certain things take the shimmer off. Comfort is good with the mesh design. Seat adjusts well into different sitting styles. Assembly was straight forward although the head rest bolt was too small. Simple enough to replace at a hardware shop. However, the weight activated wheels make it hard to move when your not sitting in it which is silly. The arms feel cheap. As they are adjustable in many ways I find myself adjusting them by accident constantly. Think these could be more robust. All in all its an ok chair, but for the money I think I will look elsewhere for the next chair I buy.2
Great ChairAnonymous reviewerGot this chair for my son as a birthday present. He is an avid gamer. He really likes the chair for comfort and support. He also appreciates the mesh, saying it feels like it will be cool in the summer. It felt like a lot of money for a chair but worth every penny.5
ComfyAnonymous reviewerGreat chair if you like to be quite upright when you’re working - super comfortable for long periods of time5

Accessories for STYRSPEL

STYRSPEL Gaming chair, red

Level up with the right hardware

Gaming is a profession for thousands of people and a hobby for millions. One thing that unites gamers worldwide is the love of esports and the challenges on the screen. And if we’re honest, sometimes very long sittings and sore muscles. With STYRSPEL you can fine-tune your posture and get the edge you need to comfortably reach new levels and a new personal best.

“Even if you’re not a gamer yourself, you probably know someone who is; there’s one in almost every family constellation,” says product developer Ola Kristensson. “Many gaming chairs on the market look like racing chairs, but we wanted to do something different, that breathes IKEA, with everything that entails.”

Loaded with function and comfort

“With STYRSPEL you get a look and functions we feel are missing in conventional gaming chairs,” he says. The backrest and the extra wide seat are compatible with everyone who appreciate comfort by the screen, and who doesn’t? “We’re using a strong mesh fabric instead of padding. It gives a pleasant cooling effect if you sit for many hours and feels softer compared to other mesh fabrics on the market. We have also tried to make it intuitive to understand how to adjust the chair so you easily can get a comfortable position, no matter how you prefer to sit or what body type you have.”

Adjust according to your game

STYRSPEL has other functions especially developed for gamers, but which others also can appreciate, like the pivoting armrests. “It’s because you want different distances between your elbows depending on if you play on a console, computer or mobile. With STYRSPEL you can fine-tune your posture and sit relaxed, regardless of what device you play on.” It’s a chair with several features that can contribute to higher scores and better gaming experiences. And that’s also good news for anyone who lives with a gamer and maybe needs to borrow a comfortable chair every now and then.

Designer thoughts

“The idea with STYRSPEL was to design a dedicated chair for gaming – and at the same time take advantage of the extensive home furnishing knowledge that IKEA has. It had to be good-looking yet have all the necessary features and ergonomics needed when a match drags on for hours and hours. The inspiration for the design comes from the wire-frame models often used in 3D computer graphics. I hope that gamers of all ages will love this chair and want to use it for many years."
