A very uncomfortable chairAnonymous reviewerbought the STYRSPEL chair expecting comfort and support, especially given the price. I have never had sitting related issues before, but after about six months of using this chair for work, I developed coccydynia or tailbone pain. I visited my doctor and tried therapy and medication, but nothing helped. At first, I did not suspect the chair because it was expensive and well reviewed. I even added a support cushion, but that only made it more uncomfortable. Over time, I realized that this pain only starts when I sit in this chair for work. No other seating causes the same issue. Because of this, I am very dissatisfied with this purchase. A chair at this price should not contribute to ongoing health problems.1
Looks good but not comfortableAnonymous reviewerThe chair looks good but after a while the metal frame will start to hurt the back of your legs/knees. I thought it was just me getting old and even got pills form the doctor for it but after replacing it with a new one today I can safely say it was 100% the chair as I've been sat in the new one for over 2 hours and can feel it easing the pain the Ikea chair caused. Would not recommend unless you're into pain.1
Perfect for Gaming Anonymous reviewerIdeal gaming chair, comfortable, and the mesh stops you overheating during long gaming sessions! A bit expensive for a single chair but happy with the purchase overall. 5
Hurts after long useage.Anonymous reviewerI frist thought this chair was great, but after using it for many months, it now hurts my legs. Thier is a hard plasic with screws at the front of the seat which dig into your thigh muscles. The chair rocks from the base now making it feel like a cheap brand and the arm rests have big dents were my elbows have rested. I would not recomending buyting this chair. it sits not used now what a weaste of money.,1
Headrest broken, no chance at repairAnonymous reviewerI loved this chair when I first bought it. Its aesthetic, it was comfortable and it was ergonomic. Unfortunately, within a couple of years use the headrest broke without prompt. There is no chance of repair, and customer services were not helpful in the slightest, just sent a copy and pasted response. For the amount of money I paid for this, I would expect longer lasting quality, especially for a part not under heavy use. The least they could do is make more parts of it replaceable, so we could buy replacements, and make their customer service respond personally rather than with generic responses when you are trying to pass on feedback to make their products better.3
hurts after a whileAnonymous reviewerThis chair has a plasic support with bolts right at the front of the seat, over time this begins to hurt your legs. The whole chair rocks and feels loose from the main support to the base (cannot be tightened), the arm rests have a swivel motion that constantly moves with slight pressure when you try rest your arms.1
Best Office Chair EverAnonymous reviewerI was put off by the title of 'gaming chair' but the grey looks perfectly fine in an office setting. Plus, is my office so I can do what I like!
The comfort is really good and seems that everything is adjustable. Been using for about 3 months now 8hrs a day and still maintains its comfort and spring.
The adjustable height arm rests are a real win making it easier to tuck under the desk at the end of the day.
Rolling is acceptable on carpet, not tried it on a hard surface. It does stay put so you don't slide around which is good.
Bit more expensive than some of the others but no where near a Herman Miller. Although, I suspect this is just as good!5
Comfort wore out after some useAnonymous reviewerThis was a great chair when I first bought it, but after a short time the plastic "support" under the front of the seat seems to have bent over time, and now it just digs into the back of my thighs. I'm not even sure if it's a piece I could replace, because it's my only real fault... other than the headrest becoming loose every now and again, but that seems to be a complaint everyone has.3
Please, don't buy itAnonymous reviewerUnfortunately, I bought this chair, although there are many better analogues for that price. The build quality is good, but for all that it is wildly inconvenient. There is a plastic part sticking out under the seat (useless in my opinion), which digs into the legs and when sitting for a long time and/or with enough weight, the legs simply begin to cramp.
This is despite the fact that you are sitting! Wow, I haven't been this uncomfortable in a long time.2
Sturdy, Comfortable and Fully FeaturedAnonymous reviewerThe Styrspel was easy to assemble, and had all the features I was looking for from a mesh chair at half the price of other brands.
Moreover, contrary to ikea reputation this chair feels EXTREMELY sturdy, and offers great support. The heavy, powder coated metal frame feels premium and looks great in my home office. 5
Uncomfortable Chair - not for everyone!Anonymous reviewerThe chair is made for very tall people. Unfortunately they don't say anything on the advertisement. I contacted Ikea support and they told me that once it is assembled the item cannot be returned. So, it's basically waste of money for me.1
Super comfy butAnonymous reviewerI tried this chair and it's really comfortable, if you have the space. The 71cm diameter base is a monster and the colours are unappealing.3
It's OKAnonymous reviewerI'm not hugely knowledgeable when it comes to chairs, it's a minefield of preferences and price points - but 4 months down & I'm a bit disappointed.
Good material, breathable and soft enough. I regularly sit for 10 + hrs and don't find myself getting uncomfortable with anything - despite it not getting warm enough yet to warrant the breathability!
It was easy to build and, while I agree that it's a strange design, I had no issues with the screw on the headrest - it's about the angle of the screw. it's a little awkward but the screw does not thread itself home if you're trying it vertically. It needs an inward angle IIRC.
My major bear with it is on the adjustability - gaps between 'lock in' points are too large. Butt-slide adjustments are enormous, meaning there's about 3 reasonable choices, and the angling/recline of the back is the same. It's also a bit rocky/clicky when locked in. Doesn't 'feel solid'.
Still might return it if that's possible without packaging this far gone.3
Good but not perfect.Anonymous reviewerI've had this chair a few months now - I spend a lot of time at my PC for work, university and gaming so i wanted something comfortable. This is comfortable but there are a few niggles: The headrest screw is clearly an issue across the board, ours is rubbish too and just doesn't fit but it's still usable. The arm rests are too short. Granted, i am only 5ft 4 but there might as well not be any arms.
The wheels. Why. Just why. The wheels lock unless you are sat on the chair, so tucking the chair in and pulling it out is an absolute nightmare.. I can't imagine how this would ever be useful. I did read others complaining about it and thought it couldn't be that bad but it's enough to make me deliberately check and avoid this feature in future!
Otherwise, it does do its job and i'm hopeful it will continue to do so.4
Middle of the road. Could be better.Anonymous reviewerPleased with a lot of the features, but certain things take the shimmer off. Comfort is good with the mesh design. Seat adjusts well into different sitting styles. Assembly was straight forward although the head rest bolt was too small. Simple enough to replace at a hardware shop. However, the weight activated wheels make it hard to move when your not sitting in it which is silly. The arms feel cheap. As they are adjustable in many ways I find myself adjusting them by accident constantly. Think these could be more robust. All in all its an ok chair, but for the money I think I will look elsewhere for the next chair I buy.2
Ergonomic office chairAnonymous reviewerI had been looking for a replacement office (not gaming) chair for a while and decided to try a few out in-store and came across the Styrspel. Despite being marketed as a gaming chair this is a very comfortable and ergonomic office chair. I can sit in it all day and adjust the tilt, seat position, arms, height etc to suit as needed. The lumbar support is also good. Putting it together was fairly straightforward with the minor exception of the head-rest, which other reviewers have mentioned is a bit fiddly, but doable. The chair feels well made. Given that it is covered in a mesh-like fabric I am assuming it will be a bit cooler to sit in during the summer months too, whereas my old leather chair wasn't.5
DisappointedAnonymous reviewerI am really disappointed with this chair. In the store it seemed to be really comfortable but at home it was different.
This is a really uncomfortable chair.
Don't buy this chair. It's expensive and doesn't worth the money.
I am being 100% honest.1
Head rest issueAnonymous reviewerAll went good till the head rest. It comes with a small screw that is hard to fit and even if you manage to screw it.. it's still loose because it's too long, so the head rest will eventually fall off. I see I am not the only one with this issue. It's a design issue, and don't have the time this month to search for a bloody screw....1
Really, really uncomfortableAnonymous reviewerI was pleased to find a chair that looked good and adjusted in so many different ways. I tried the one in store and it felt fine so I bought it. However, when you sit on this chair for more than about 45 minutes you realise how hard the seat is - it’s like sitting on a park bench and is so uncomfortable for sitting on for any length of time. I went back to IKEA to ask if I could exchange for another chair (item was still in ‘as new’ condition and back in its original packaging) but IKEA said I couldn’t exchange it and that I should have sat in the demo model in store for longer. I don’t know about you but I don’t think it’s realistic to expect customers to test something for (say) an hour to see if it’s comfortable for that amount of time. I’m really disappointed as this was an expensive chair and I can’t afford to chuck it away and buy another one but nor is it comfortable enough to use for a day’s work. Disappointed with the product and disappointed with IKEA’s poor customer service1
Should be 0*Anonymous reviewerThe chair was trialled initially in store, it has long back support which we thought would be better for my back, but used for 2 days and had awful lower back pain. The lumbar support cannot be fully adjusted and the seat itself is extremely unformortable - extremely disappointing for the higher price margin.
However, the worst part of it all is that we returned this chair disembled to our local IKEA store in it's original packaging (all plastic wrapping and box in tact) within 6 days of purchase to be told that we could not have a full refurd on our original payment method, and that we had to take a refund on a gift card at 30% less than the price of the chair, in essence putting us approx. £70 out of pocket for simply buying a chair that we thought would be amazing for our intended use. We've been penalised for taking good care of the product and packaging and returning the item not faulty to store.
DON'T BUY THIS CHAIR!1
