Looks good. Disappointing design.Anonymous reviewerOn balance this was a good purchase. As cheap as it is, it looks surprisingly good, we really like it. The design however is lazy, could have been improved with very small changes. The middle part of the stem is "composite", made of three little braces that go around the bulb. These don't lock into the rest of the stem, they just hang there on a prayer. This design choice has several important consequences: 1. The structure is flimsy, sometimes looks crooked. 2. It's quite tricky to assemble, relying on several attempts and a good amount of luck that the braces don't pop out of their sockets. 3. It's easily upset by the slightest of disturbances, requiring to partially redo the assembly. Basically, once you have it ready, place it in your desired spot and don't ever touch it again. Another note to the designers: the assembly would have been slightly less maddening if some of the steps had been in a different order.4

Designer thoughts

With the STRANDAD lamp, I aimed for simplicity, both in terms of design and to keep the price down. The lamp had to fit into a small package and be easy to assemble. We explored different materials and shapes and ended up with this almost non-existing build: simply a paper cylinder that elegantly diffuses the light, and a metal wire base that follows the shape of the shade. It turned out this is all you need to create a nice, ambient light atmosphere throughout the home.
