Great task light at just the right heightAnonymous reviewerWith the appropriate bulb this is a great reading/task light at just the right height to sit beside an armchair or sofa. It's clean design is unobtrusive and simple. Some people have said they have problems with it falling forward. It only does that if the lamp shade isn't over the base. The pictures make it clear how it needs to be assembled to be stable. Great price and effective lamp.
Good Value Reading LightAnonymous reviewerI sit at home reading books and newspapers quite a lot so a good reading light is essential. My old reading light became no use as the bulb type was no longer available. 'Sambord' was easy to assemble when I got it home and very cheap compared with others for sale on the Internet. It is useful for reading and the LED light bulbs are easy to obtain, so it suits me perfectly.

BUT...
As others have said, it isn't immediately clear from the instructions just how much the nut connecting the upright to the base needs to be tightened and how much effort is invllved. In my case it turned out to be a two-person job: one to tighten the nut, the other to hold the upper portion tightly to keep it from turning. I'm afraid that the wordless instructions can't possibly make it clear that the almost-final stage takes more effort than Ikea’s "simple assembly" usually does.
Once it's assembled and working, it's a treat. I read a great deal and this has a good spread of bright light just where it's wanted.
Bit of a nutcrackerAnonymous reviewerI was a bit hesitant about buying this with all the complaints. It looks like IKEA listened though, and the instructions now show clearly that you need an adjustable wrench to tighten the nut in the base. Takes a bit of elbow grease but it worked. Only docking a star because its still a bit of a faff for a cheap reading lamp, and other IKEA lamps I own don't have the same design flaw
Lovely design, poor manufactureAnonymous reviewerThis lamp should be lovely but sadly the connection between the stand and base is badly made so that it is impossible to tighten the bolt sufficiently for the leg to stand straight. I have bought two and both are the same so obviously a design flaw. Poor quality is not justified just because of the price. Disappointing

Light excellent !Anonymous reviewerExcellent light but need to attach heavy bottom BEFORE linking the pieces of the stem of the light. We had problems to get the whole stem at the right angle it was too heavy .
Terrible designAnonymous reviewerIt is not possible to screw in the pole into the base so that the lamp actually stands upright by itself as pictured. I have it leaning against the arm of the sofa to get it to stand upright. Such a shame, it looks great otherwise.
Does not sit flatAnonymous reviewerThis is one of the most disappointing things I've ever purchased from Ikea. No matter how much effort you put into aligning the stand with the pole and how tight you turn the bolt underneath, it just doesn't sit flat and wobbles badly. Not a bit wobbly, a lot wobbly. Poor design. I wish I had the time to return it but I don't. Real shame as its nice looking.

The innovative shade design combined with a spotlight bulb creates an interesting yet discreet point of light in a room at night, whilst never resulting too bright. Brilliant and good looking, a good product without compromises.

I bought 2 and both are the same. Feels flimsy. Stylish - but in retrospect i would t=rather have paid more for something more sturdy
Just perfectAnonymous reviewerExcellent light for reading, slim so it can be placed anywhere. I wanted it for reading when I’m sitting on our L shape sofa. Because you can bend the top part of the lamp it doesn’t glare for anybody else.
The price is brilliant for this lamp to the point that the bulb which is not included nearly doubles the price. Still worth it.
Would be nice if it came in other colours as currently only in black.
