Nice chairAnonymous reviewerGood chair, you would need the footstool if you want to be able to rock back and forth further, without the stool it’s a little restricted in motion. We got the more premium cushion for it and that’s nice and comfy. Frame is good, though your head posture might not be quite suitable for everyone, especially for longer periods of sitting (your head ends up pushed a little too far forwards). Frame may have to settle a few days as it creaked at first (all bolts fully tightened) but that all stopped and it’s feels solid and sturdy. Parents have had the cheaper version of this frame for a few years without issues so we expect this chair to last for a long time. Would buy another, and will be getting the footstall soon too.

This chair is amazing, my son loves it, he uses the rocking motion to regulate when he’s in crisis and it’s light weight enough for him to move it around the room so he can sit wherever he wants.
Poorly finished...Anonymous reviewerHad the Poäng's predecessor, Poem, back in the late '80s, so expected a chair with at least as good a level of finish, but this doesn't come close, with sharp edges and rough surfaces everywhere - it actually feels altogether unfinished as if it's never been sanded or sealed.
I'll set to and fine sand it tomorrow, then wax it, but it really is probably the worst finished item we've ever had from IKEA since we equipped my wife's flat from the Warrington IKEA in '88/9.
This poor quality also appeared to be reflected in the machining - the holes for the fixings matched poorly and required some force to get them to align.
It'll been fine once I've attended to it, but I shouldn't have to.

What is layer-glued wood?
With layer-glued wood it’s possible to create flexible and extra strong constructions with curved shapes, like frames for armchairs. The secret is a technique where many layers of thin wood veneer are glued together and then pressed into the desired shape. We often use wood like birch, beech, ash and even bamboo – and strive to use the raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste. Just like solid wood, it has natural variations in structure and colour.
