Reviews

Poor quality control & tolerancesAnonymous reviewer-Poor tolerances everywhere. Drawer fronts are not level, nor equally spaced to each other, nor equally spaced from the carcass. They're uneven in every dimension. Looks rough, with no adjustability. Pot luck if you get a good one. -Drawers do not hold square - takes a little wiggling but unsure if it will slip out over time -Top plate is *not* symmetric - if you put it on the wrong way then the drawer fronts will stick out. Instructions only make this clear at the end - poor! But even right way round it is not quite flush with the drawer fronts. -You can remove the plastic pins that hold in the top and other parts, but you need some thin plastic or metal to get underneath and lever up. -Drawers come out quite far, only leaves ~15cm behind the front of the carcass. -Drawer assembly was much harder than usual rotating grabbing nuts. Some of the plastic sliders required a lot of force & hammer. I understand Ikea are reducing the parts requiring tools, but tolerances must be better2
It's great!Anonymous reviewerI want to balance out the 1-star reviews and say that actually my experience with attaching the fronts was totally fine... You just need to make sure they are aligned and that it is all held together properly. Super quick and easy.5
Good value and smart looking Anonymous reviewerMaybe not our simplest IKEA build but very pleased with the look and the build when it was completed. 5
Solid build but a couple of flawsAnonymous reviewerThe clip together system saves time and for best results do this on a solid surface not carpet. Some drawers in the ikea range have a support bracket in the middle of the drawer which stops the bottom panel from sagging. They are not in this drawer system so not as robust. The platsa designer app allows knobs to be specified for the drawers and even shows them on the 3D view and includes them in the parts list when purchasing. But the fonnes drawer fronts are blank and don’t have a part drilled hole in the back for location of knobs. Otherwise a cleverly designed and solid unit4
Easier than expectedAnonymous reviewerI was a little apprehensive about buying this after reading previous reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. The drawers are assembled differently to previous IKEA drawers I've built, so the first one took a little while understanding the instructions and ensuring I'd followed them exactly. However, once you understand how they go together, they're much faster to build than the old design of drawer. My only gripe is that the step where you follow one set of instructions for the bottom drawer, and a different set for the other drawers is hard to understand: Does a picture of a grey bottom drawer and white top drawers mean "this only applies to the bottom drawer", or is it the other way around?4
Really poor qualityAnonymous reviewerI love IKEA products and they are always my first go to when wanting new furniture. For the price I've paid for these drawers, they are so cheap and disappointing. I can't even get the unit to fit together so will be returning it. Although IKEA will now say I can't as I've opened the packaging.1
Awful productAnonymous reviewerI wish I’d read the reviews but the Platsa wardrobes were easy. Not so much the drawers the plastic pegs to attach front are to flimsy and impossible to fit if they go in wrong you cannot get them out if you can get them in at all as for the top again plastic screws one would not go in and then the top overhangs front and back but not enough lip at front to cover draw… will be taking back in one piece as you can’t dismantle 🤬1
Do not buy this!Anonymous reviewerSo different from anything I have every purchased from ikea. Instructions were incomprehensible, you needed three people to assemble. The making of the drawers was unbelievably hard, the plastic fitting for front of drawers is impossible to fit unless you end up doing what we did. Get a wooden spoon and bang with another piece of wood. Worst thing ever bought from IKEA, so disappointed with end product.1
Nice drawersAnonymous reviewerSmooth drawers and fit everything we needed to put in5

The storage that changes with you

Our living space is often limited, and it can be a challenge to find a place for everything. With PLATSA storage system, we wanted to create a simple, changeable storage solution that you can rebuild and add to, build vertically or horizontally, to the side or in between. On top of everything else, the price should be low but the quality should be high. The solution: the right quality in the right place.

"All you need is your hands," says product developer Freddy Kramer while clicking together one PLATSA frame after another. Yes, clicking. The secret is a type of plug called a wedge dowel. Freddy goes on to explain why assembling or taking frames apart easily is an important detail. "People's lives are changing more and more today ─ we move more often, live in smaller spaces and maybe share a home with others at times. That's why our needs don't look the same throughout life."

Take apart and rebuild

Freddy shows how the frames can be arranged vertically, horizontally or like steps, to then be completed with shelves, wire baskets, clothes rail, drawers and doors. "Even the exterior can be used. You can place hooks there or a clothes rail which is fixed between two frames."

Love in a white box

For PLATSA to be truly long-lasting, quality was just as important as flexibility and ease of assembling. But improving quality without adding to the price is not easy. "Right quality in the right place," Freddy says, and opens a cabinet door. "Here on the outside of the door, which you see and touch every day, we've used a matt foil with fine texture, while the inside, which is not as exposed, is coated with a simpler base foil." The PLATSA project took a lot of time and commitment. But it also gave results. "Those empty white boxes for the frames might not look like much at first glance, but they’re actually white boxes filled with love,” Freddy says, smiling.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
