Because it only attaches at the corners with elastic, rather than being like a fitted sheet, this elastic stretches once in place and the 'protector' shifts out of place. This means both that it rucks under your bedsheet, causing large uncomfortable wrinkles immediately upon use, and that it pulls away from large sections of the mattress underneath, which are therefore not covered or protected. Not only that, but the one time I've had a small liquid spill it went straight through to the mattress underneath anyway, and this did absolutely nothing to stop that happening. So, it is very literally useless and not fit for purpose. A total waste of money - especially given that I bought two (for the spare bed as well)!1
Poor quality, doesn’t lastAnonymous reviewerI’ve had this protector for just over a year on a bed that has been slept in for no more than 6 months. The underside is made from a thin material and it has rubbed against the mattress and left slubs attached to it. Removing them actually pulls threads in the mattress so, far from protecting it, it is actually damaging it. I’m throwing it away and getting something better.1

I think that quality is adequate and the elastic seemed to work quite well without rolling off. There’s a knack to putting the elastic over the corners! Good value for money.5

The new one is much lower quality and cost £10. I noticed the overall quality of IKEA textiles has really decreased in recent years; towels, cushions, duvet sets. Terrible. This has put me off buying IKEA textiles (which I used to LOVE) ever again.1

Melted on low heat tumble dry temperature Anonymous reviewerJust like some other low reviews, mattress protector melted on low temperature tumble dry. Washed, air dried and tumble dried on low heat before using. Came out parts melted and stuck together. Upon trying to detach the melted areas, the plastic ripped. Was meant to be tumble dryable to up to 60 degrees and it was dried at lower temperature than that.1
