Lack shelf 190cmAnonymous reviewerThis is a great shelf, I used three of them above my son’s desk for display/storage. We’re very happy with these shelves, they look expensive, and they’re great quality. His desk was also bought in IKEA in oak, but I couldn’t understand why I could buy his desk in oak but could only buy his shelves and desk drawers in white oak. It would be nice to be able to buy matching colours.

Not strong enough for booksAnonymous reviewerOk so the books may have been heavier than 10kg which was the maximum weight. So it's not good if you want to put kids books the whole length. That's what I did and the whole shelf first slanted and books came down on me. So I had to buy brakets to secure them. If you want to use it as bookshelf, you need to put heavy duty brackets.

For £20 it's almost impossible to get even a plank of wood and two brackets, and this looks considerably better than that. Weight limit is 15kg. so unsuitable for very heavy items, for anything else look no further.

Floating shelves are very big and can lean inAnonymous reviewerI have put these shelves now in two different houses, one with solid walls and one with plasterboard where I had to install battens. I'm now not bothering anymore with floating shelves as even fitted correctly with the 30 odd screws this size shelf needs - with correct rawlplugs fitted and good quality screws, these shelves will always lean towards the front if more than a little weight is on them. I mean like a few books etc. The two tiny holes for mini screws at the top are just not enough to fully secure this size shelf. This size is also awful to try and fit by one person. I had to also put shelf brackets under each end (away from the metal support) as shelf bent in. If I hadn't already put 30 odd holes and rawlplugs in the wall I would have sent this back or binned it. One of the very few Ikea products I have ever had issues with.

Material
What is constructed board?
We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
