Reviews

Shelf arrived damagedAnonymous reviewerOrdered 2 of the shelves as part of my Pax Wardrobe and one of them arrived damaged1
Chipped/ brokenAnonymous reviewerI received the shelves (5 pcs) all broken on the side. I have asked the tasker from the taskrabbit not to install it. It has to be changed and replaced. I would need a deduction from the assembly cost aside from replacing the product. 1
Good shelves bad deliveryAnonymous reviewerShelves v good and do the job, however arrived dented with smashed corners which slightly ruins the look of them.2
QualityAnonymous reviewerFound that the white finish wasn’t as good as the same produce we have bought in the past , found on edges that the white was lifting and had to put these up high so you could see them3
Very poor quality from IkeaAnonymous reviewerPaid £1k for an Ikea pax wardrobe. Installer came, said the 5 Komplement shelves were damaged. Had to order new shelves, when arrived these were also damaged. Again Ikea sent out new shelves by DPD and they were also damaged. After receiving 15 damaged shelves I agreed to collect the shelves from the store to avoid any damage via DPD. I will collect in a few days and will inspect on collection. I then need to arrange Ikea to send out another installer to fit the shelves as the doors need to come off. What a fiasco. We should get trading standards involved here. The Komplement shelves are very easily damaged especially by courier delivery. I also agree with other reviewers the top film is very thin and can easily be damaged. The shelves are very poor quality and the whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth and now I need to waste time and petrol going to collect the 5 shelves. Its a joke if you ask me. How difficult can it be to produce and deliver a decent quality shelf?1
Chips on the shelfAnonymous reviewerOne of the shelves was chipped - took photos with task master (who installed it) if you need to see it. Tried to find link to report this on website but could not so putting a note on here 3
Shelf dark greyAnonymous reviewerThe label was stuck on had to scrub to get it off. Would be useful if the labels were low tack5
Product damagedAnonymous reviewerThe package was fine. Product inside is damaged.1
Cheaper flimsy fixingsAnonymous reviewerOrdered 4 of these shelves to go into two PAX wardrobes. Arrived in two separate DPD deliveries. One shelf followed by a package with three more an hour or so later. Upon installing them when the plastic was removed you could see slight damage to the corners. No problem as it could be hidden. However, the plastic screw in fixings to hold the shelf in place were almost all damaged. About 15 were able to be used. The rest were just broken plastic shards in the packaging. I compared this with the product fixings supplied two years ago. Very cheap quality fixings provided now.1
👍Anonymous reviewer👍5
Very good Anonymous reviewerReally sturdy shelves5
Saggy in no time at allAnonymous reviewerThe only positive I can say about these shelves is that they are cheap & I suppose you get what you pay for. The 50cms shelves are fine. I have lots that haven’t budged but the 100cms ones have all sagged. I am re-buying/replacing shelves that are less than 2 years old, due to the originals sagging with hardly any weight at all (eg. duvets in an ikea Dimpa bag). But the shelves regularly appear in the bargain corner at (surprise, surprise) bargain prices. I have lots of Pax wardrobes so regularly replace the shelves as I spot them going cheaply. Harrumph.1
WardrobeAnonymous reviewerGood study product4
DamagedAnonymous reviewerTo chips in the wood, I can’t find anywhere for a replacement 1
Shelf plugsAnonymous reviewerShelf plugs are useless. Now have to screw them in what happened to the old push in plugs. One shelf collapsed and the other two won’t last long. Really disappointed with the shelf plugs. 2
ShelfAnonymous reviewerShelf fits PAX wardrobe well5
Cheap and nasty!Anonymous reviewerThe problem with this product, like many of Ikea's products is that it is made to hit a price point. Quality appears to have been forgotten, the chipboard it is made from is poor low density board and the foil/vinyl covering is thin. This is then combined with poor packaging, resulting in 8 of the 12 I ordered being damaged. The solution, make it out of better board, improve the foil covering and cover the entire shelf, (including the edges). Pack it in a cardboard sleeve with corner protection. Then increase the price accordingly. £8-10 for a better shelf would not be unreasonable.2
It’s a shelfAnonymous reviewerSturdy & looks great5
Good shelfAnonymous reviewerEasy to install fits the pax unit perfect5

Because one size doesn't fit all

Have a little look around — not too obviously, just a peek. Chances are, even if it's just different coloured socks or another colour of scarf, there's no one dressing exactly the same as you right now.

Which is why it stands to reason that our clothes storage shouldn't be exactly the same either. It's this idea that led us to develop the PAX/KOMPLEMENT clothes and shoes storage. Designed so that no matter your passion, fashion or personality, your clothes and accessories will have a practical home.

The evolution of storage

It just takes a flick through a photo album to see that some of the clothes we used to love might make us wonder 'what was I thinking?' today. And as the way we dress has changed over the years, so too has our approach to making storage at IKEA. That's why we've designed PAX/KOMPLEMENT clothes and shoes storage to adapt to how you would like to store your things, rather than trying to fit your clothes and accessories into an unsuitable space. An idea that's shaped its whole development.

The only similarity is difference

“Most people dream of having an organised wardrobe where they can see all their clothes and accessories. But that's where the similarities end", says Betina Tviis Larsson who developed the PAX/KOMPLEMENT system. Traditional storage often shoehorns you into doing things a set way, whether its folding t-shirts or sorting out a sock drawer – something Betina wanted PAX/KOMPLEMENT to step away from. "We didn't want to say there's a right way or wrong way to keep your clothes. If you want to hang your jeans by their belt loops we want you to be able to do it”, Betina says.

Multiple personality order

To get the design process off on the right foot, the design team focused on what kinds of storage do different people need. "We started by speaking to a lot different people in the team and around IKEA", Betina explains. "To try and determine different personalities and different needs. And what we ending up with was this big inventory of preferences and types of things that needed to be stored". By designing around personalities, the team started to develop types of storage that would fit collectors and families just as easily as minimalists and people with very little space. "The whole idea that defined the project became, don't change your personality, change your wardrobe instead", Betina says.

Fitting in function

Bringing this research together, the result is a series of interior organisers that can be adapted for particular uses, from multipurpose drawers and hangers, to specific features for everything from shoes, to trousers, to jewellery. The idea is that each organiser can be mixed or repeated as you choose, so if you want to store your whole sneaker collection inside, or have everything hanging, you can. "I really like to use space in a good way", Betina says. "With this system you can tailor your one wardrobe frame into hundreds of combinations." So whether you're a 'super organiser' or a 'piler' type of clothes person we hope you'll be able to match your storage to suit your style.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
