LovelyAnonymous reviewerThese shelves fit perfectly every time. Not expensive and excellent.5
Solid pine adjustable shelving Anonymous reviewerLove this shelving as extremely sturdy at a great price. Fit it and forget it. Glued solid pine strip shelves are strong compared to composite materials. I have used to put shelving system in a pre-existing built in wardrobe as option to cut the shelves a further 2.5cm each end ( shelf fits on outer peg rather than inner ) to get a perfect fit width wise. Excellent price for solid seriously adjustable shelving. 5
Oh the labels...Anonymous reviewerI have lots of IVAR and love it; recently bought some shelves to expand an old unit, and needed to stain the new to match the old... The labels on the shelves are terrible, really hard to remove and I couldn't find any way of removing the glue - tried acetone, abrasives, all sorts, but ended up with nice pale patches where the stain just would not take. Please sort this out - the labels on the side units came off fine in one piece, leaving no glue residue, so it is possible! Otherwise, thumbs up :)4
WobblyAnonymous reviewerI bought this shelving unit to replace an older one from another company. Ivar looked sturdier but in reality is not . My old unit wasn’t this wobbly and didn’t need the cross bar . Ivar without the cross bar it’s unusable. Then one of the shelves metal rails fell off , I managed to keep it together but it’s bad quality wood . Also the instructions are useless 2
Great priced display solutionAnonymous reviewerI loved the new shelf locking design on this shelving unit which means you cannot easily dislodge it. I have an original IVAR unit from the early 1990’s that is still going strong and have always loved this range. Each shelf does seem to be made from different pieces to make the one shelf (I guess that’s a cost cutting exercise) but they still look good once it’s assembled. Also easy to put together. Although my dear dad did the side assemblage for me. 5
Badly cutAnonymous reviewerTotally shocked in the cutting quality. Terrible workmanship 1
We love Ivar system! Great shelfsAnonymous reviewerWe love the Ivar system, it looks nice as comes but you can also paint/teat the wood further. The only issue for us with the shelves is that they come with some pretty powerful stickers and you need help from a solvent to fully take them off. The good thing is the stickers are on the bottom, facing down, but if you’ve got an eye for detail you can still see the tacky residue left over once placed, we did so we had to find a solution. Again, not a mayor issue, but enough for it to be annoying, perhaps they could find a different way to attach the labels. 4
Massive drop in quality: brackets poorly secured, direction of wood grain not considered in construction so edges weak and sheering offAnonymous reviewerHaving bought IVAR for years, very disappointed with quality. Corner shelf sheered at bracket. Straight shelf bracket detached when shelf removed to adjust position. Really bad drop in quality control on wood and on bracket fixing2
just what we neededAnonymous reviewergood quality 5
Block board Anonymous reviewerMade from random blocks and compressed for strength. This is actually unlikely to warp like solid prime or spruce. By

Sturdy shelfAnonymous reviewerCombined with the Ivar sides, the shelves are easily assembled and adjustable. Exactly what I needed. Would love to have them narrower for pantry shelving.5
Ivar shelving systemAnonymous reviewerI have purchased many Ivar systems, for many years, and the shelves are handy as you can move them round for the area you need.5
Great looks, awful quality Anonymous reviewerI have always loved the Ivar series. When I moved into a new house I finally had a chance to have my own. I ordered three tall shelf units connected with each other, with two drawers and one cabinet inside one of them. I spent two or three entire days covering all wooden elements in Danish oil, which made them look even better. Then we assembled the set, adding braces behind the shelves as advised by IKEA. Finally, I put my books and stationery stuff on the shelves and in the cabinet. All looked great. And then, within two hours, the entire set almost collapsed. The metal brackets that connect the shelves with the side units are not strongly attached, just stapled on very lightly. The side units are extremely light too. Huge gaps appeared between the wooden parts of the shelves and the metal attachments, and the side units became warped. After two days, afraid of an impending disaster, I sent the set back and got a full refund. Never again!1

not what it used to beAnonymous reviewerI'll start with saying I'm a massive fan of the ivar system,I have it both in my bedroom as a wardrobe and in my workshop for storage. the older model I have is definitely superior in build quality. I now have three different variations. the first has the metal rail encased in wood to hold it in place, the other has plastic rails and the newest has gone back to metal rails, but they are not secured in place like the used to be. This I may add is a terrible design flaw, the rails on most my recent shelves arrived wonkily positioned and loose. any time you remove a shelf they come out. this poor manufacturing is not just the shelves. my uprights were not drilled centrally and so the shelves wouldn't fit and another, either the wood of the shelf was cut wrong or the side upright as it got wedged when getting it in place. I really hope they'll look into the current quality of manufacture. it's a great system but I will not be buying any more new pieces, I'll be looking for the old.3
Don't buy such rubbishAnonymous reviewerVery misleading photos and planner, as I thought the shelves would be simple to re-position. Don’t you believe it! The shelves have a totally Heath Robinson design – anyone with any basic engineering skills would know these would not work. First, there is a metal strip – like a U-channel with a lip – under the two sides of the shelf. The U-channels are not smooth but have protrusions which are supposed to hold the dowels in. The shelf has a very shallow slit in the wood which the U-channels push into. They very easily become dislodged as there is no glue or anything holding the channels in. They arrive with two metal dowels in the channels on each side. One shelf arrived with a dowel missing and we had to order another entire shelf. These dowels happen to be of a smaller diameter than the holes in the uprights which means they are very loose. The only way to move a shelf once in position is to give it an almighty whack underneath with a mallet. Then the loose dowels fall out!1
Really poor quality fixingsAnonymous reviewerBeen buying IVAR system for over 30 years, and have an awful lot of it! Lot of changes over time, far less available in the range now which is sad. Original range was fab, well made and sturdy and still going strong. Didn't like when the edges of the shelf were grey plastic, looked odd and not as sturdy but worked ok.
But have just bought some new shelves and the new fitting is awful. The metal strip at the edge of the shelf isn't attached to the wood securely. It first came off when I was trying to get the shelf supports out and continued to fall off every time I moved the shelf. Have had to scrabble about at the back of the unit to retrieve the metal strip several times.
Doesn't hold the unit together at all, which the shelves used to. Even with the cross brace in place, any pressure at all sideways and the shelf parts company from the upright.
Come on IKEA these are not fit for purpose 😩1
Excellent storage system, easy to assemble and can be added to at anytim.Anonymous reviewerWe have kitted out a 2.5m x 3.5m pantry with this shelving system and it looks absolutely amazing. Being able to mix & match sizes and the height of individual shelves coupled with a wine/bottle rack shelving option is just great!
We applied a wood oil with a tint and what a difference that has made! It does require a little more work but its so worth the effort to transform the pine into a very expensive looking shelving system.
Definitely recommend.
We have had so many compliments on the shelving system it’s so good.
The biggest issue with adopting this system is the availability of the shelves! But, definitely worth the wait. Best thing about this system is that you can just keep adding to it!5
