A beautiful series loosing qualityAnonymous reviewerJust purchased the Hemnes chest of drawers from the store as we are very happy with other Hemnes items brought in years past, but this chest of drawers was disappointing:
1) The "staining" which we discovered too late: why not paint the furniture to the same standard, consistent to other Hemnes items? Looks like it's missing a few layers of paint.
2) Inside of the drawers, and the panelling is so cheap feeling, and looking. Not at all the quality I got on other Ikea items.
Disappointed to see another trustworthy brand starting to cut corners, guess the shareholders need their value...and customers end up buying expensive cardboard.
Smart and practicalAnonymous reviewerLove this chest of drawers, good depth to drawers, can fit lots in. When we purchased it, you could get a transparent glass top to protect it, but strangely, they appear to have stopped selling this, which is a great shame.
The paint finish is really poorAnonymous reviewerI had this model for years and wanted a new one for my new flat. I was very disappointed on the paint work. The finish looks really uneven and I can see some blue effect under the paint.
Very disappointing. I had to pay someone to assemble. After calling customer service they offer to reimburse but I have to dissemble myself. Meaning paying someone again to do it.

terrible paint finish, very disappointedAnonymous reviewerbought this to go with Hemnes bedside cabinets purchased previously. They were fine. The paint finish on this COD is dreadful. Very patchy. In some places not even properly sanded. Some areas are so bad it looks like blue patches. So disappointed. Also the back is a piece of thin cardboard, the cardboard box it came in is stronger.
So dissapointing with the new paint finish on these Anonymous reviewerMy mum has had Hemnes chest of draws and side draws for a number of years and they are sturdy and the white finish is nice and covers the wood fully so you don’t see the wood grain or colour through the paint. I was looking at getting some of these for a new house and the new finish on these are now rubbish compared to the older style. It looks like a 3 year old has applied the paint finish so you can see the wood colour and grain through the paint it now looks cheap and tacky. Surley people must be buying these less now. I don’t get some of Ikeas decisions it’s baffling. Go back to the fully painted white version they are way nicer.
Hemnes Chest of DrawersAnonymous reviewerHaving looked at numerous websites and furniture shops (including ones considerably more expensive than IKEA) to find a white painted chest of drawers, the Hemnes three drawer chest we selected, stood out in terms of appearance, size of drawer space and value for money. It might not be made of the highest quality materials but, crucially, it is solid and sturdy and given that it is painted you can’t tell by simply by looking what it is made of. An equivalent item in John Lewis was similarly constructed and much more expensive! Like most IKEA furniture it is self assembly but don’t be put off, that makes it easier to transport and it is straightforward to build … if you put your ego to one side and follow the instructions!
