I was worried we were being to casual about it (decorating on a budget) but I am so glad we did it. This lamp is amazing - it absolutely transforms a room. It does so much more than light it; it creates this really warm and cosy atmosphere. It is excellently designed. I want to buy one for so many people. It feels great for relaxing and winding down in the evening. We hardly ever want to turn on the main light now - this is just too enjoyable. I'm now searching for something with a similar effect to use on the ceiling light.5

Material

What is bamboo?

Strong, flexible and one of the world's fastest growing plants – bamboo has many uses that make it an excellent renewable material. It’s a type of grass and usually grows without the need for fertilizers or irrigation. After being harvested, it grows new shoots that are ready for harvesting after 4-6 years. At IKEA we use bamboo for items like furniture, bathroom decor, baskets and lamps – and we are constantly exploring more areas of use for this versatile material.

"I've wanted to make a lamp with a handmade bamboo shade for a long time. Both because the material is beautiful and because it's durable - not least of all from an environmental standpoint. When I started working with BÖJA it was natural for me to travel to Vietnam and meet the skillful craftspeople there. Because the material is so light, I wanted to play with volume and make a shade with plumb shapes. The lamp is a good combination of traditional handicraft and modern design."
