They've reduced the quality, I've reduced the stars I gave itAnonymous reviewerThe 4 side beams used to be made from solid blocked birch (I already have a BJÖRKSNÄS), but now they've made it from chipboard with a veneer. This creates 2 problems. 1. The veneer is very easily marked. It even arrived with the odd mark, and had even more by the time I'd constructed it. Over time due to normal wear and tear, it will looks tatty far quicker than if it were made of solid blocked birch like it used to be. If solid birch is marked (which is unlikely since it's a hardwood), it adds character, unlike marked or chipped veneer which looks awful. 2. The bed no longer feels as rigid or high quality as it did. This is because birch has a far higher rigidity than chipboard. It is a very hard, stiff, and strong wood (pun not intended), yet the 4 side beams are an integral part of the bed's structure. I reviewed this bed 4 years ago and gave it 5 stars. Now I am deducting 1 star for it being easily marked, 1 star because it's not as rigid, and 1 star for IKEA's cynicism. 2/52
