Works When It Wants To (Used Through Home Assistant)Anonymous reviewerInitially paired the device through Apple Home using the Apple TV as the border router, then added it to Home Assistant. Some clever person created a blueprint to mimic the button presses and the scroll wheel. This allowed me to map the buttons and scroll wheel to the Symfonisk Ikea picture frame speaker. Button presses work fine, the scroll wheel is a little Meh!3
Difficult to useAnonymous reviewerThe scroll wheel is far too smooth to rotate reliably. Most attempts end in an accidental click that turn the linked lights off. Both buttons have pretty poor responsive areas. They may click but not actually perform any action. The rounded back feels ergonomically fine in the hand but makes it a poor experience to use whilst mounted to the wall with the included metal strip and magnet. Pushing the scroll wheel button, slightly off-center, twists the entire remote on the wall and often leads to it coming away completely. Overall a nice concept, good looking remote and great price. But the reality of using it is somewhere between disappointing, to the point of not feasible in any actual smart home setup.3
So soAnonymous reviewerWhilst the remote is good and integrated to Apple HomeKit within ease, unfortunately scroll wheels are not yet compatible with matter. Basic function of on/off works fine. Confusing though as although it supports 9 buttons, you need to press the bottom of the remote to switch between profiles (that’s what the 3 lights are for). In HomeKit, the 9 buttons are split out but buyer beware, only buttons 3, 6, & 9 actually work in HomeKit.3
Pointless without the IKEA HubAnonymous reviewerPurchased this as it seemed very good value for money. Tried using it directly with Apple HomeKit. Got it to connect and shows up as 9 button. Can program the single press, double press and long press for the 3 main switches, however you can’t use the scroll wheel. From reviews on YouTube you need to have the IKEA Hub as Matter protocol is unable to fully support it.2
Unsure of how it is intended to work with MatterAnonymous reviewerThe supplied instructions for Matter are minimal. There needs to be much more detail. It connects readily to HomeKit and presents itself as nine switches. Switches 3, 6 & 9 offer settings for short, double and long press. The other switches only have settings for short and double press. I haven’t worked out what the three LEDs indicate or how to control them. Similarly I haven’t yet found out how to operate these nine switches. I set it up to make the short press on switches 1-9 illuminate a bulb in different colours, but I haven’t managed to make the scroll wheel control that lamp. It could be that I’m misunderstanding something. I’ll continue to experiment and report back if I discover anything. If anybody else has made it work with Homekir, please explain how. There is one minor design flaw. The fixing magnets can pull a loose fitting AAA cell out of the battery holder when clipping it back in place.3
Brilliant little gadgetAnonymous reviewerFor the price this is an amazing item. The equivalent in terms of quality is something like the Sonoff buttons, and they’re more like £10-12 which makes these a bargain. They work with Matter, so I have them via Home Assistant. The scroll wheel is fiddly, but manageable and once you master the touch it’s ok. Overall amazing value.4
Only works fully with IKEA hubAnonymous reviewerThe hardware is nice, and I wish it worked with other ecosystems. But even with an open standard like matter this seems to be designed for the IKEA ecosystem only. Apple homekit doesn't work. Aqara matter/thread hub doesn't work. Trying home assistant tomorrow, but even if that works I wouldn't increase the review. Aweful out of the box experience. Matter should just work, and this gives it a bad name.2
Nice design but scroll wheel too fiddly to useAnonymous reviewerWas looking forward to buying this due to attractive design and multi-function concept. It is a clever idea - a small unit which enables you to turn 3 different devices on/off and even adjust brightness levels. The problem is the scroll wheel - in short, you are meant to press it to 'on/off' and rotate it anti/clockwise for the 'dimmer' function. Unfortunately the surface is far too smooth, so your finger tends to slide over the surface rather than grip and rotate. Worse, if you are just trying to adjust the brightness it is difficult not to end up turning the light off altogether because you hardly need to press the wheel before the on/off function operates. The wheel also feels flimsy - IKEA have slashed the price of their new Smart Lighting items, but I'd rather pay a bit more and get something that feels solid to use. As it stands, this product is what I would call 'fiddly' to operate.3
