still not strong enough!Anonymous reviewerIKEa's response to my earlier concern was that maximum load is 30kg. TBH, it would not occur to me to weigh books. The shelves come in a certain length and depth and I simply put books into the space until the space is full, which is what I suspect most users would do. Perhaps IKEA should make the shelves stronger if it it knows that a shelfful of books weighs more than 30kg, rather than placing a constraint on users that is impractical. I am considering ways of modifying the selves to make them fir for purpose, but really why should I have to do this?
not strong enoughAnonymous reviewerWithin only a few weeks, all of these shelves, loaded with books (and nothing else that might be too dense) are sagging very noticeably. They still work and are not going to collapse but they don't look too good. Disappointing that with its decades of experience with this shelving system, IKEA cannot make a shelf that stays flatter in ordinary use.
Magic Device to Help You Fit More Books in the Same Space!Anonymous reviewerThese shelves are brilliant - they enable you to make the best use of your Billy Bookcase capacity, especially if you have a lot of small books that don't need a high shelf space. You just slot the shelves into spare peg-holes.
The only small downside is colour-matching, as Billy bookcases have been made in a number of shades over the years, some of which are no longer available. I picked the closest match, fixed the new shelves low down and they are not noticeably different.
Cheap and easy way to get more from your Billy bookcyAnonymous reviewerSometimes you have smaller books and other items and need to get more from your shelves without taking up more space and these shelves are a quick , easy and cost effective way to do that. I can't think of an improvement other than more publicity on the shop floor displays
