Fits BILLY bookcase 80 cm wide and 28 cm deep.
The shelf does not fit bookcases purchased in the spring of 2014 or earlier.
Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. In case it would break, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.
Shelf supports are included.

The shelf brackets are a bit fiddly and the stickers are daftAnonymous reviewerI bought 9 of these shelves and whilst they look good, they are a bit of a fuss to install. Firstly, why use paper stickers on the glass. It's impossible to remove them without tearing and they leave a sticky residue. The shelves are sturdy when they're in but I would argue that the brackets are a bit over-engineered and fiddly. Pegs to hold up the shelves and vinyl stickers would have made it 10 times easier.

still not strong enough!Anonymous reviewerIKEa's response to my earlier concern was that maximum load is 30kg. TBH, it would not occur to me to weigh books. The shelves come in a certain length and depth and I simply put books into the space until the space is full, which is what I suspect most users would do. Perhaps IKEA should make the shelves stronger if it it knows that a shelfful of books weighs more than 30kg, rather than placing a constraint on users that is impractical. I am considering ways of modifying the selves to make them fir for purpose, but really why should I have to do this?
not strong enoughAnonymous reviewerWithin only a few weeks, all of these shelves, loaded with books (and nothing else that might be too dense) are sagging very noticeably. They still work and are not going to collapse but they don't look too good. Disappointing that with its decades of experience with this shelving system, IKEA cannot make a shelf that stays flatter in ordinary use.

Material
What is glass?
Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
