Dreadfully flimsy, returned Anonymous reviewerI usually love IKEA furniture and presumed negative reviews about Besta were due to poor construction - in fact this unit is totally unfit for purpose - I can’t believe IKEA are actually selling it! It is incredibly flimsy, it’s impossible to keep it square. It creaks and wobbles from side to side with the slightest touch. Because of this, the doors and drawers will always be wonky - there is just nothing to hold it in shape. Have driven all the way back to return it. I have heard many people saying that IKEA quality has declined recently and this BESTA unit certainly makes me agree! 1
Disappointing qualityAnonymous reviewerI bought 2 cabinets with 6 Hedeviken doors. I saw the negative reviews but I have assembled Ikea stuff before with no problems so thought I'd be alright. I was wrong. The frame is flimsy, I think it contains a cardboard lattice rather than chipboard. The back doesn't provide any bracing at all. Once fixed to the wall it is still weirdly difficult to keep it square while you attach the doors (I think it's because the little round feet sink into the carpet more at the front than the back due to the weight of the doors). Once you start adjusting the height of the feet you enter a world of pain where the doors go out of square and adjusting them to stop them rubbing on one another is a never ending puzzle. The bottom doors rub on the carpet and can't be adjusted enough to stop it, so I put it on top of a matching board to raise it up off the carpet. I also bought some MDF sheets to screw and glue onto the back to give it some rigidity. On a positive note, the Hedeviken doors are lovely.2

I would like to see if I had of paid for it to be assembled if that would have made a difference! This does make me wonder. I normally love ikea products and rate them highly, really not to sure what to do ! 1

Material

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
