Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. In case it would break, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.

Sizing issues - a little too wide for besta units.Anonymous revieweri have had 3 different shelves and they are probably 1mm too wide and make it super tricky to instal. My advice if you plan to use on besta units install them first before you add the top unit. It may damage the sides if you try to slide or tap in at an angle. IKEA you need to do better with these.1

Sticker on glass REALLY hard to removeAnonymous reviewerIt comes wrapped in cardboard and cellophane but someone still thought it wise to add a sticker carrying the product code directly to the glass. It is very difficult to remove (10 minutes+ with a razor blade), resulting in smears all over the glass. 1

It's a shelfAnonymous reviewerIt's difficult to review a chipboard shelf. It fits the BESTA and is cheap, making the most of the modular nature of the system. The real beauty of it is the fact that you can buy as many or as few shelves as you need.5

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
