Office deskAnonymous reviewerJust bought this desk and assembled it alone although I can see why they suggest it might be a two person task as it is quite heavy. The weight is worth it as it gives a very stable and sturdy desk when assembled. Instructions were clear and sensible and if followed correctly then there’s no issues with assembly. Overall I think it’s really good value for money. Only problem is that the full Alex range of products does not extend to the blue/black design that I selected, hopefully this may change in the future.

Scratched on the first day Anonymous reviewerThis desk is cleverly designed. The back hatch for cables will hold 2 x six plug power extensions comfortably. HOWEVER the finish is very poor quality. The paint got scratched on the desk surface seemingly during the assembly process. I do not hold out any hope this item will last more than a year. I think it will just gather scratches until I get sick of it and replace it.
You should also be aware that the usable desk area is quite shallow so you will have to put your monitors on the cable hatch be prepared to set-and-forget as it will be fiddly to open.
The top is the bottom and vice versaAnonymous reviewerUnusually for Ikea the instructions are incomprehensible. The top and bottom of the pedestal are confusing and if you follow the instructions the top becomes the bottom and vice versa. Also, what is it with cutting out pieces of paper to stick the feet on. Very frustrated and would like a refund.

Paint peels easily and started 1 month in. The "wood" at the border wears away too. Quality of materials and paint is lacking. I would put a glass cover on it in hind sight.

Good features, looks great, desk top finish not very hard wearingAnonymous reviewerThe desk looks great, was easy to assemble and best of all has the drawers and storage area to the rear, which hides my extension lead and cables.
The only issue I have found is that with the white/oak colour after a few months of being used 2 - 3 times per week the surface of the desk has deteriorated in the high use areas. This has led to unsightly scratches. However the addition of a nice desk pad and the problem is hidden away. If you are using for regular work I'd recommend getting a desk pad or some form of protection for the desk surface from the start.
Good productAnonymous reviewerThe only small issue is the if you have a chair with arms that need to go under when your working in the desk they won’t you have to raise the arms up to get close enough to the desk. I’m pretty handy so I might cut out one of the draws and make good. Very well made as you would expect from Ikea
Alex Desk smart and more usable spaceAnonymous reviewerBought this product to replace an old corner desk unit which I had bought in an attempt to save space. However the old desk look dated and and had a lot of unusable work top. My new desk has now looks smart and practical and has transformed my study and has given me a lot more usable work surface. The metal legs are stylish and there are 2 big drawers to fit pens and stationery. A really god buy

What is particleboard?
Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded.
