The blackout version is grey on the exterior, matching my anthracite windows nicely. I swapped the supplied mounting tape for black tape from Screwfix, making them more secure and less visible on the glass.
**The instructions aren’t great**, but this is the easiest method I found:
1. Measure the window pane width and add around 8mm to overlap the beading.
2. Mark this width on paper, then mark 12mm and 18mm from each edge—the hole should fall between these marks.
3. Line the paper up with the blind, transfer the marks, and cut.
4. The metal bracket should be the blind width minus 43mm.
**For cutting:** a sharp retractable knife cuts the blind material easily, and a junior hacksaw with a bi-metal blade works well for the rails. For the metal rods, I needed a Dremel—the hacksaw barely touched them.
Overall, excellent value and they look great once installed!

Impossible to cut to size.Anonymous reviewerThe width of this blind is fine. The metal rods were too long.
However, they are really difficult to cut.
The first one I just about managed after many hours. The second one has bent, so now will be going in the bin.
So, £19 has gone down the drain.

A really well designed blind. I hope the glue hold!Anonymous reviewerI have a pitched glass roof over my kitchen. These blinds seemed perfect to block out the heat waves. Yes they are a bit fiddly to fit and the instructions could be better but now my kitchen is not an oven. My top tips are:
1. With the rod in the plastic guide clamp the bottom of the guide in a vice.
2. Use the vice when cutting the aluminium strips too. Use a fine file to smooth the ends and remove burrs especially where the plastic end piece is to go.
3. For the pleated material use a Stanley type snap-off knife with 10mm length of blade to allow a good sawing motion.
4. When inserting the plastic end pieces ensure the end pleat is in the plastic slot.
5. Lay the whole blind on a table to ensure the adhesive tabs are in the same plane. There are two grub screws on each bracket to tighten.
6. Clean the glass with window cleaner and then use a solvent. Then I used a pair of Ikea wooden kitchen tongs to apply equal pressure both sides of the rail. Job done.
Instructions for the complexity of this non-existantAnonymous reviewerBased on the design it is NOT possible to fit these blinds to cover the window completely, surely this is the purpose of a window blind ???, What is the point of a blackout blind if it doesnt cover the window. Instructions are incomprehensible. Worked out how it all went together by trial and error, now have two blinds that dont cover my windows. Cut everything perfectly for my window only to find out the measurements have to match the holes in the blind so for me useless a blockout blind as there are gaps wither side and it looked even worse from outside.

Love them but could be made a little betterAnonymous reviewerI bought them thinking it would be easy to saw through by then end of the first I didn’t even want to attempt the 2nd/3rd ones I still did it , I do love IKEA a lot but you would think that the metal rods an the the top an bottom bars would have been made of plastic so it is easy to saw through after nearly an hour of trying to cut them my hand well it hurt , I do also think that there should be 2/3 diff size rods as they are such a ball ache to cut through they was the hardest part of it all , it’s a shame these are not made in bigger sizes to fit bigger windows else I would be buying a lot more maybe they could be made out of plastic to save someone like me who doesn’t have a power tool or knows someone who has one , the sticky pads arnt to brilliant they would come unstuck an I would have to stand there holding it back on I ended up using gorilla glue the kitchen blind I can’t even seem to get right the other are ok it is also a shame these arnt pleats arnt sold separately
DisappointedAnonymous reviewerVery poor instructions, and the metal rods were so hard that I could not cut them with a hacksaw as directed in the instructions. I couldn’t fully understand the markings guide for cutting the width. Which meant I ended up cutting one too short. Also very fiddly sliding blind into runner. Total waste of money and even longer waste of my time.
Very disappointed indeed, blind now in bin.

Adhesive no goodAnonymous reviewerIt’s a great price but if you need to cut it down it’s quite a faff. That said, the main issue is the adhesive pads to stick to the window. They say leave on for a bit before affixing the blind which I did exactly as described but when I came to the room a week or two later the whole blind has still fallen off into pieces on the floor and sticky fixings are the issue.

Design fail, despite the best intentionsAnonymous reviewerI am generally a fan of Ikea, in terms of product design, but this one is a fail:
First of all, as mentionned by everyone, those metal rods are made of strong stuff, I had to ask my neighbour for an axe grinder, as my perfectly fine saw couldn't make a dent on it. It could be seen as an asset in a sense, except that the rest is really flimsy. The blind itself is made of a mix of paper and fabric pulp (It doesn't block light, but it's not intended to, the attachements on the wall/glass aren't attaching at all, the sticky backing being inefficient on glass. I had to glue it.
On a final note: There is a time when we see the limitations of drawings versus proper written instructions. I shared the leaflet with the assembly intructions to people working in product design, and none of them could make up how to cut the parts to size, just by following the drawings. A filmed step by step would have been handy.

Made easy by not following instructionsAnonymous reviewerI gave this rating a 5 star. Here's how I made simple work of this blind.
The worst problem is cutting down the blind itself. I tried all sorts of ways and finally found my easiest and better finish was to use a hacksaw with the blade ground to a sharp edge, leaving a small amount of teeth still showing in the middle. Cut was perfect. I made 2 smaller width blinds, which came out really well. 200mm wide one of them. I offered the blind to the window inset and as long as I allowed equal (20mm approx) more on each hole where the rod fits, it all works out fine. Most complaints were about the 3mm rod. I cut it fine with a 32tpi blade no issues. I did use the supplied guide but I put it in the bench vice, but it's easy if you stick it down on a table. Another thing to think about is deburring the cut edge on the top and bottom alloy extrusions. I used a needle file, all cleaned up well. Use an alcohol wipe if sticking to glass and finish with a paper towel. All should stay put.
Bought 9 of these for conservatoryAnonymous reviewerI've got 9 of these for my conservatory.
Trimming down was easy, about 2 minutes of each side to saw down. I did use the little brackets for sawing although I also used a hand clamp to secure it, otherwise it relies heavily on a smallish sticky pad to keep the bracket still.
I left the sticky pad on to temp secure then properly secured with screws to the frame.
I did try just to the window, although it would let a little light in the sides if I did so opted for the frame.
My suggestion (if possible) leave about .5mm of the metal rails excess either side, don't do it flush.
If doing to a window pane, I imagine it'd be a bit finicky making sure the nut that is tightened to the rail, (on the outside edge of the window) as this would have to be done prior to applying

You’re basically being lied to about the product to make it seem better Anonymous reviewerBought two of these for angled windows in an attic flat. One of them worked somewhat well once we had the right tools which we thought we had after buying two hacksaws to cut through the metal pole neither of which worked. Definitely need something a lot stronger to cut through it so already false advertisement with the product already. The second one however has been a nightmare to the point where I even got replacement parts and yet it still doesn’t stick to my window. Followed the instructions to a T when cleaning the window and tried everything to make it stick, yet every time it falls off. A big waste of money unfortunately. Giving it two stars as after hours of messing around with different saws the other one is up and working on the window but doesn’t deserve anymore than that.
