Reviews

If I could give this 0* I would!Anonymous reviewerI buy a LOT of IKEA furniture and this is the first time an item has really let me down. Firstly it’s one of the most difficult items I’ve put together, the “push to attach” requires a mallet to get it in. Secondly it’s very unclear where the latch goes in relation to the door hinges (we had to disassemble and then reassemble) and lastly, the door mechanism is poor at best, the item just looks awful. No amount of tinkering with the door adjustment made the door level and open evenly. I really wish I’d read the other bad reviews before buying this. Save yourself the hassle and put some doors on a kallax, or find a better cabinet. This is not it, I’ll be surprised if this range continues, without some serious re-designing. Very disappointing from Ikea. 1
Small cabinet.Anonymous reviewerUnfortunately we found this item very difficult to put together. It took a long time. Doors difficult to open as no handles.4
Looks greatAnonymous reviewerI'm really pleased with the look of these cabinets. One went together no problem, the other we struggled to line it up perfectly. And the door catch definitely needs improving - on one cabinet it's always worked perfectly, but I'm off to the store to get a replacement part for the other one for the 2nd time!4
Very poor qualityAnonymous reviewerI have been putting Ikea furniture together for years and I have to say this was the most impossible to complete. The instructions are unclear, the holes for the plastic clips do not align properly and the catch does not work at all which means I will have to fit a handle to open and close the door which does not fit correctly. Very disappointed with this product. Will stick to Kallax in future.1
More than disappointed!Anonymous reviewerI have assembled a lot of IKEA furniture in the past and thought that this small cabinet would be straightforward. Everything but! The joins on one side did not work, and the two pieces would not go into position and stay joined. Without this the assembly could not progress. Very disappointed. I have another unnecessary journey to IKEA to return it and get a refund (and IKEA is certainly not on my doorstep!). IKEA - you have to up your game on this item!!!!! 1
Awful don’t waste your money Anonymous reviewerThe door will not sit flush and is jamming in bottom left corner , now scraping the coating trying to open and close the door , terrible purchase 😔1
Eket assembly is a nightmare Anonymous reviewerI have bought multiple items from the Eket product range and every item has been ridiculously difficult to fit together. I have built many Ikea products previously as I used to work for ikea but this product is supposed to be designed to make life easier to put it together and does the complete opposite. I will be purchasing from the Kallax range in future as those items are far easier to assemble.1
Door Anonymous reviewerGreat 5
Nice productAnonymous reviewerEasy to assemble and very nice look.5
Fit perfectly as measured.Anonymous reviewerNice 5
Great product Anonymous reviewerBought a few to make a media unit. Easy to put together and looks great!5
DisappointedAnonymous reviewerI found these units very frustrating to put together, the instructions were not helpful and I wasn't really happy with their appearance or function. The clips that hold the units together were a nightmare to install - and i had to buy a further two packs because I wasn't given enough - to be honest I should just stuck with Kallax - it would taken a fraction of the time to build!1
Good productAnonymous reviewerSturdy and easy to install with reasonable price.5
Had to returnAnonymous reviewerAfter a month the door wouldn't shut so took back for a refund. The catch on the door needs to be redesigned.1
Could be sturdierAnonymous reviewerNot the best quality but it fits in the space I had. The catch doesn't always work so that needs a rethink IKEA!3
Not worth the money.Anonymous reviewerWood is thinner than that of the Kallax. When assembled, doesn't feel very strong or sturdy at all. One of our units broke during assembly; the plastic that joins the two pieces together snapped completely off. Waste of money.2
Very good product and easyAnonymous reviewerVery good product and easy to assemble.5
Great product and it's worthAnonymous reviewerGreat product and it's worth it4
Handy , well priced littleAnonymous reviewerHandy , well priced little cupboard.5
Handy sized cupboardsAnonymous reviewerPleased with the size of these cupboards. The assembly was straightforward for the most part but the magnetic release catch is a little temperamental.4

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home. Not least when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 80 cm, so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colours and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritise playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colours and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

Material

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
