A couple looking at their new sofa that doesn't fit and needs to be returned

How to make a return at IKEA

We’ve simplified our IKEA return policy so that there are just three key things to remember about making a return to us.

  1. You have 365 days to make a return, whether your product is new and packaged, or opened and assembled. Opened and assembled products will be refunded to a refund card.
  2. Bringing your receipt smooths the process, but we can help you find your receipt if you can’t.
  3. You can always return it to an IKEA store, whether you bought it online or in-store.

We have detailed pages about the IKEA return policyIKEA guarantees and IKEA claims, to help you along the way.

In-store returns to IKEA

Our Exchanges & Returns area is where to head when you want to return anything to our stores. Because our 365-day return policy is simple, the process is usually smooth – especially if you bring your receipt and arrange an Express return online beforehand.

If you have your till receipt or order number handy, follow the link below and enter your details to receive your Express return barcode. This will make your journey to the Returns counter much quicker.

Please note returns are not accepted in our Plan and Order points such as Preston and Hull.

IKEA returns via collection

If you need IKEA to collect your order, you can arrange this from our Contact Us page. Please have your order number available.

You will be eligible for a collection charge of £25 unless the product is faulty or not as described, in which case IKEA will cover the cost of return. Where a collection charge is applied, this will be deducted from the refund due to you.

Collection of the product(s) will only take place from the delivery address to which they were delivered.

Parcel returns

If the article(s) you are returning were purchased online and have a total weight of less than 10kg and can fit in a parcel of 60x50x50cm or less, it can be returned for free using Yodel.

You can return at your convenience to over 7,000 locations. Please be advised that your refund will be processed once the article(s) have been received by IKEA.

The Yodel service is only available for purchases made online. For the return of articles purchased in-store, please visit your local store along with your receipt and the article(s) you wish to return. We are unable to offer exchanges under the Yodel service.

Should you require an exchange, please visit your local store along with your order number and the article(s) you wish to exchange.
