Our Cotton Table Runners Add Style

Combine practicality with elegance using table runners. Runners help protect your tablecloths from spills and stains, while adding a beautiful accent down the centre of the table, or across from one guest to another.

If you want to show off your dining table while still offering some protection from heat, spills and scratches, you can use a table runner on its own. The runner acts as a protective layer for items in the centre of the table, such as serving dishes, flower vases, or candle holders. For extra protection where people eat, add placemats at mealtimes to help keep your dining table looking its best.

    Tablecloth FAQs

How do you use a table runner?
Table runners usually run down the centre of a long table, where you place serving dishes, water jugs, and other items. Shorter runners can be placed across the table from one guest to another.

How do you wash cloth tablecloths?
Most of our cloth tablecloths are made from machine-washable cotton and can be tumble dried on a low or medium heat. Some styles, including cotton blends, may need different care. Plastic tablecloths and those with appliqués are best wiped clean and air dried. Always check the product details for washing instructions.

How do you measure for a tablecloth?
Measure the length and width of your table, then add twice your preferred drop (the amount you’d like the cloth to hang over the edge) to each measurement. For example, a casual look usually means a drop of 15–25 cm, while a formal setting might have a drop of 35–45 cm or even down to the floor.

How do you measure for a table runner?
To fit a table runner lengthwise or across the table, measure the width or length of your table and divide by three, allowing for your preferred amount of overhang at each end.

Are table runners still in style?
Yes, table runners remain a popular choice, with plenty of on-trend colours and patterns to choose from. They add both style and practicality, and never really go out of fashion.

Should a table runner hang over the table?
Typically, yes—a runner should hang over each end by at least a few centimetres. For a classic look, your table runner should be slightly shorter than the tablecloth beneath it.

Do you put placemats on top of a table runner?
Placemats often overlap with your table runner, depending on the width of your table, the runner, and the placemats themselves. On wider tables, placemats and runners may not overlap at all.

How much should a tablecloth hang over the table?
The amount of overhang depends on the occasion and your preference. For casual settings, a drop of 15–25 cm is typical. For formal occasions, aim for 35–45 cm or even longer, but make sure it doesn’t interfere with guests’ comfort or chairs.
