How to choose the best boxspring?
You'll find the perfect boxspring by considering your sleeping position, desired firmness (soft, medium, or firm), bedroom size, personal style, and, of course, your budget.
IKEA tip: Always try out a boxspring yourself before buying. Visit the store and test different models. That way, you'll find the bed that perfectly suits you.

What is a boxspring?
Boxsprings consist of a mattress base with legs, a mattress, and a topper. They often also have a headboard with soft padding. This combination ensures optimal sleeping comfort and a timeless look in your bedroom. The fabric upholstery gives your bedroom a soft and cozy atmosphere.

Choose the right size
Do you already know what size you are looking for? Discover our boxsprings in different sizes:
- Boxsprings 90x200 cm – ideal for small bedrooms
- Boxsprings 140x200 cm – comfortable for one person or two
- Boxsprings 160x200 cm – spacious double
- Boxsprings 180x200 cm – xtra wide for maximum comfort
Are you sharing the bed? Preferably choose 160 or 180 cm wide, with two separate mattresses.
IKEA tip: Smaller bedroom? First measure the space (door, cupboards, walking area).
Which mattress for a boxspring?
The boxspring itself (the base) is usually sprung, but the mattress makes the real difference. That's why we combine our boxsprings with pocket spring mattresses as standard.
Choose the right firmness for your comfort:
Medium-firm
- Perfect for side and back sleepers
- Combines comfort with support
Firm
- Ideal for stomach and back sleepers
- Offers maximum back support
IKEA tip: Hesitating between firm and medium-firm? Choose medium-firm. This firmness suits most sleeping positions and offers a good balance between comfort and support.

Choose a suitable mattress topper
A topper determines the "first feeling" when you lie down. They come in different sizes (from 90x200 cm to 180x200 cm), thicknesses, and materials.
Popular materials:
- Latex: Resilient and suitable for restless sleepers who often change position. Natural latex is breathable and dust mite resistant.
- Memory foam: Relieves pressure points at the hips and shoulders. Perfect for calm sleepers who move little during the night.
- Cold foam (HR foam): Firm and supportive with good ventilation. Suitable for all sleeping positions and retains its shape well.
- Soft foam: Provides a soft, comfortable layer for those who like a soft sleeping sensation without sinking in too much.
IKEA tip: A topper of 5-7 cm thick makes a noticeable difference in comfort.

Comfort first, design follows naturally.
Your bed must be comfortable, that's for sure. But then comes the fun part: choosing how your bed looks.
Headboard
Pay attention to the height and width of the headboard. Does it fit your wall and bedroom?
Fabric choice
Velvet offers luxury but stains easily. Textured fabric is more practical, as stains are less visible.
Color
Neutrals like grey, beige, taupe are timeless and versatile. A bright color impresses, but note: your bed becomes the room's focal point.
Bed legs
Leg height plus boxspring determine ease of entry. A step-in height around knee level (usually 55-65 cm) is most comfortable.
Storage space
Choose between a bed with or without storage space under the legs.
Keeping your bed clean easily
The mattresses and mattress bases of most boxsprings come with removable covers that you can wash yourself or take to the dry cleaner. This keeps them always clean and fresh, and also very handy if you ever spill coffee in bed.
