Good to know

The daybed must be combined with two twin mattresses. They are placed on top of each other when you use the daybed as a single bed, and next to each other when you use it as a double bed.

Coordinates with other furniture in the BRIMNES series.

Mattress and bedlinens are sold separately.

Slatted bed base is included.

The daybed is not to be used as two single beds; it should only be used as a double bed when the bed base is pulled out.

Ok for a small child but too flimsy for an adult. Drawers do not work.Anonymous reviewerWe bought this bed because of its versatile size, opening into a full size from a twin day bed. Did not expect high quality materials but it is super flimsy and weak. Three of us adults were unable to install the drawers, the design is not great so had to leave the drawers off eventually. We are looking for a better option.3
Ideal for Guest RoomMichaelWe bought this as a bed for an exchange student. We thought it would be ideal for a guest room because it can be a single or a double bed. It was fairly easy to assemble. Only one of the screws stripped out. It would be nice to have a few extras just in case4
We love itHamsaIt is very convenient and sturdy.5
Brimnea DaybedMariaPerfect for my guestroom!5
Sharp cornersCindyWe use this bedframe in the office/guest bedroom. The bed frame is visually beautiful yet practically hazardous. The top corners and drawer handle are poking SHARP - my family members and myself have been injured, bruised and scratched while passing by the drawers or going in/out the bed. 3
Perfect for a toddlerElizabethWe bought this for my son several years ago. It's okay quality but when you pull the bed out, the mattresses are so thin, it was very uncomfortable. The wooden slats are not flat and flush to each other. So when the bed is closed to the twin size, the slats are raised on one side, making the mattress slant. Anyone that sleeps in the bed, feels like they will roll off. I put rolled towels along the edge to help but that's a temporary solution. Now that my son is older, we are getting rid of this but would not recommend this bed.2
Fantastic Bed!! But... KevinI love this bed, it does a great job and I love how easy it was to assemble... But... I am going warn: Those edges are hard and sharp. My little one was adjusting, hit her head square on the corner and cut her head. I have hurt myself a few times getting in and out of the bed too but I just blamed my clumsiness. I did add some stick-on foam. Ikea, please consider rounding those edges off or include a bumper guard of some sort. 4
Fantastic Bed!! KevinBought this for our 4 year old daughter, we loved the idea that it extended which would be great when she is not having a good night and needs one of us with her or if she just wants extra space. Assembly was easy, though, I admit I used a drill to help with assembly, just make sure to keep the torque setting down to prevent damage. I saw a lot of people complain about quality, and even with myself, my wife, and my daughter on the bed fully extended, there was no concern of quality. If you don't feel 100% comfortable assembling, I would encourage seeking support with assembly as this has a lot of pieces to it. To me, it was worth it and it is so comfortable and practical. I was skeptical, but I know Ikea has a great return policy and support. I've never been done wrong by Ikea and been buying all my furniture there for years. 5
DaybedBettyWorks in the guestroom as expected 5
Great except for bogus drawer hardwareRebekkaI assembled this bed very carefully, but there is a problem with the drawer hardware. One of the drawers works fine, but the other is so difficult to open and close that, functionally, it may as well not be there. I'm afraid that trying to force it may damage the frame. The shipping box was not damaged in any way, so it seems likely that there was some manufacturing flaw in one of the hardware pieces. Having said that, I'm mostly satisfied with the purchase so far. The bed looks great. I've been sleeping on it for the past five weeks, and it feels quite sturdy. I have not tested the trundle yet. 4
Completes the guest room in functional style. JohnGreat value and a good looking daybed. Finished the guest room just as needed. 5
Don't recommend SamanthaI bought these they was built crappie love the look but fell apart withing 3 months the middle when u pull out don't have great support also the slates broke when a larger person sat on my daughter's bed the mattress are paper then for the price of stuff if u have to buy multiple beds u think ur getting a good deal but it falls apart it's made out of particle board1
Very heavy SaritTo heavy, the wood that holds the mattress Already broken and the worst I order a matching mattresses, but they’re not matching the different size from the bed not recommended2
Slats Broke Night 1LindsayAfter spending all day building this bed for my son, he hopped on it gently and immediately broke a slat. A week later and another slat broken. Very disappointed. This is clearly a design flaw.1
Horrendous QualityVeronicaI have been purchasing IKEA goods for 20 years now and it has progressively gotten worse over the past 5 years. As of a few minutes ago, my last straw was pulled. Within hours of assembling the bed, (few months ago) the huge thick slat cracked from myself sitting down. I am not big, the next slat broke within that same week, now a few months later I sat down as normal and it broke AGAIN. This is 3 huge chunky slats that broke now. All my previous beds with ikea with the pencil thin slats have NEVER cracked let alone broke. This bed was obscenely expensive for I can’t even sleep on it anymore. Lord knows these slats might not even be available to purchase. This is my last purchase with IKEA. Genuinely so fed up with this bull.1
Drawer won't go in- Ikea has been no helpLeahWe spent 5+ hours assembling this item. The screw holes are too small in many places and it causes the screws to become stripped. One screw used in the drawer slide mechanism became stripped and could not become flush. Because it was stripped it is also impossible to remove. After 5+ hours of assembly, the drawer will not fully close. I have been trying to get a resolution from Ikea for over a week with no response. We clearly do not want to spend any more of our time disassembling this item so I have requested Ikea either send someone to disassemble it and take it away, or give us a full refund. I have no answer a week later. We need to figure this out so we can host guests. Terrible item, terrible customer service. Long-time Ikea customer no more. 1
Measure twice...MairinWe had a Hemnes day bed that served us well for years but the back was too high for use in our attic guest room so we sold it and bought the Brimnes. Howver, I didn't check the measurements and the Brimnes bed is too short for taller guests so it's back to the drawing board...4
Awesome! JoseWe got this for a guest bedroom. It is a great economical option. Great buy! Easy to assemble as well. 5
Must buy! LoriI bought this bed for my daughter along with 2 of ikeas 6” mattresses. When she opens up the bed she turns the mattresses to make it into a a queen sized bed (or is it king?). She said she has never slept so well in her life and that the thinner mattresses are far more comfortable. She couldn’t be happier with this product! 5
Practical AdrianaWe were looking for a trundle and ikea had the perfect one. Perfect for our guests since we have a den. 5

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.

Function solution

Sofa and bed in one

Living in a small space or need an extra bed sometimes? Then a daybed is a smart solution since you get two types of furniture in one - a sofa by day and bed by night. And since some of our daybeds also have drawers, you get a practical place to store anything from bed linens to clothes and toys.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

"Living in a small space often presents big demands for smart storage. That’s what we wanted to solve by creating BRIMNES – a series of functional bedroom furniture with storage in every piece and at a low price. We made the bed frame with generous drawers and the headboard with room for books, magazine files and holes for cables. The wardrobe was given adjustable shelves so that you can maximize your storage. We hope you will enjoy living with this furniture in your home for a long time – regardless of whether you combine them or use them as individual pieces."
