Position this correctly... Apostolos...and will work flawlessly. If not, you'll deal with constant false triggers. I use the recommended rechargeable batteries and haven't had to recharge for over a year. Exceptional battery life especially in comparison to the Ring motion which worked ok but battery life was horrible. 5
Finally workedKathleenThe first Vollhorn sensor did not work properly. Called IKEA and a replacement was promptly sent. The new one works as it should, Love it!5
Works with SmartthingsCliffWorks great outdoors and paired with Samsung Smartthings.5
Status always got motionEthanI’ve noticed that the status show motion all the time, even when I’ve set it to off. The status in the app doesn’t change, even though the motion is off. 1
Never stops detecting motionNealAs others have reported, the motion detector triggers every few minutes despite being in an empty closet. I bought 2, paired with Homey hub and the trigger notifications fill up the log rapidly. Tried varying heights. Not worth 2 cents.1
Started out well, most failRalfI have 13 of those. I’m using the IKEA rechargeable batteries. At first 2 did not work properly, but the rest were great. I figured 11 out of 13 wasn’t bad for the price.
WRONG! They’ve started failing on me one after the other (recharging/swapping batteries doesn’t fix anything. Five generate endless motion events and two don’t work at all.
That’s a failure rate of over 50%. 1
Only works in limited situationsFaeI bought this motion sensor along with 2 smart outlets for overhead lights in my garage. The sensor has some issues. Basic detection works adequately, especially walking left/right from 10 feet or less. From 10 feet to 25 feet, detection is much less reliable. Detection also doesn't work vertically. I set the sensor on the floor about 4' from me sitting on the floor, and it wouldn't trigger with an arm wave nor standing up. I had to pick it up for it to trigger. Triggering takes about 1 second.

Not Nearly As Good as Previous ModelGlennBought to put in a closet to automatically turn on the lights. Did not work nearly as well as the previous model which I had in a smaller closet. Would not detect my hand/arm more than 4 feet away. Moved the older model into the closet and it worked perfectly. Moved this unit to the smaller closet. Works, but misses my motion half of the time. Put a second one by my front door. Not sensitive enough. Have to be within 6-8 feet for it to trigger. Please bring back the prior model!!1
Never stops detecting motionMichalThe sensor never stops detecting motion. This is apparently a well-known issue (google it) and IKEA has done nothing to fix it over the last few months.1
Works great, usuallyRalfI have 10 of these motion sensors using the Ikea rechargeable batteries. Eight work wonderfully. One was dead on arrival. One works sometimes and other times sees motion every 1-3 minutes regardless of what’s actually happening.
IKEA replaced the DOA unit and the other is almost excusable given how cheap these are; most Zigbee motion sensors are at least twice the price.
This is with Home Assistant using ZHA and SkyConnect. 4
GREATAaronGot 6 of these to use with Home Assistant. With 1.2V rechargeable batteries, they work well and I have had no issues yet!5
Questionable quality controlYutingI recently bought 2 Vallhorn motion sensors and paired them using zigbee2mqtt. One works perfectly. The other one is constantly showing false positives. I have tried different batteries, including the IKEA LADDA, but none of them solved the problem.1
Plagued with false positivesYegorThe sensor is plagued with false positives. Resulting in lights turning on and off all night even when there is no motion present. No visible way to adjust sensitivity. 1
I want to like it, but it's been troubling DavidThe one in my house might be a dud, and the nearly dozen or so I installed in my parent's house have been hit or miss.
I bought one initially as a test, and it worked well enough on the first day for me to buy a lot of them to deploy at my parents house. Around 30 percent of them have wild false positives, but that could be due to the battery type.
I tried the Ikea rechargeable battery on my test motion sensor in hopes of it being the issue. The device works better and the false positives are gone, but it leaves me in the dark all the time. I've had to disable it.
I'm hoping it's just an issue with the first batch, I'd like to exchange it when they're in stock again and see. But it's not convenient for me to return the sensors at my parents house. 1
