Poorly proportioned, well madeAnonymous reviewerThe longer silverware compartments in this tray can accommodate 11.5" flatware. Shorter compartments accommodate 6.75" flatware. For at least American flatware, compartments should be shifted an inch. 10.5" is plenty long for dinner flatware, and dessert/salad flatware should have at least 7.5" you can see that MANY reviews comment on this. I wish I could include my picture. If you ever redesign, I also wish there were 4 dinner flatware compartments (10.5") instead of 3, which would let me separate knives and chopsticks. But I don't know how common that request would be. I do love the idea of these, and how well they fit Ikea drawers. Although I would prefer straight sides which would make them more flexible with less wasted space.3

Compartment size makes no senseWilliamThe largest utensil tray I’ve ever held in my life. Despite the ample overall space, the small slots are too short for a salad fork, the big slots are twice the length they need to be for an ordinary fork. This is too large for a pretty average drawer or a countertop if you value your flat surface spaces. The slanted sides take up space in the drawer without providing useful storage space because of the narrowing base. I’d rather have ample space in my drawer than the organization this would otherwise provide. The low utility betrays it’s low price and oddly high reviews, idk what people are using this for it’s not cutlery. I like the idea of bamboo but I’d rather have a $3.00 plastic bin option from IKEA that’s half the size than a almost $30.00 option that is unwieldy and only marginally nicer to look at given it’ll be in a drawer all day. F tier product.1

The unit we bought did not include any rubber feet like the other UPDDATERA items we bought. Since there is no way to order spare parts for this item, we removed it from the kitchen and will not be using it.3

More flexibility on the inside

IKEA has had cutlery trays, knife trays and other kitchen interiors in the range for a long time, but interviews with our customers made it clear that they needed to be updated. The inside of the kitchen might not be flexible enough when people develop new needs, tells Manuel Courela who was involved in the development of UPPDATERA. “The everyday in the kitchen changes, just like life itself. You meet someone and the family grows, you become a dedicated home cook or decide to go all-in for a new diet. Then it’s practical if the inside of the kitchen easily can join the ride.” Manuel shows how the cutlery caddy can be moved around and used in different ways. “Lift it out and put directly on the table when it’s time for dinner. Or store bottles with oil and vinegar in it.”

Adapt to your own kitchen

The idea with UPPDATERA is to make the interior organisers more flexible. The add-on tray in plastic is a good example. Place it next to a cutlery or utensil tray for a perfect fit and utilise the drawers in your existing kitchen better – no matter the size of them. “Not everyone has a kitchen from IKEA, but everyone can have IKEA functionality on the inside of their kitchen. We hope that the different UPPDATERA products will make a big difference without a big investment.”
