Nice look but has room for qualityYetingThe material is somehow quite flaky and keeps shedding dust as I move it. Whenever I put pressure I can also hear squeaky sound that makes me nervous a stem might break. The surface made of rattan is also not smooth, so be careful sitting on it as it might snag your clothes.
Pretty but not durable ChelseaFell completely apart within 14 months. Little sticks everywhere that I had to pull from my toddler's mouth almost daily. Maybe if you don't use it it'll last but if you use it as a chair or footstool... no good.
Not long-lasting if putting to heavy useZaraI have used this ottoman for 2+ years. I weigh less than 120 lbs and the top surface especially has broken off wicker spindles using it as a foot rest and very occasionally sitting on it to put on shoes and such. It is still standing but I don't see it lasting another 2 years. If you're looking to use it as blanket storage/end table for light objects it would work well.

Nice looking, but not the quality as describedAntoninaI am surprised that I have not seen any other comments about the condition of the rattan. I have owned literally dozens of rattan baskets and chairs in my life and have never had one that was so dry, had lots of slivers, the rattan strips are a squarish shape as opposed to round (adding to a roughness), and I cannot see any hint of a clear acrylic lacquer. It is also a bit dirty. Otherwise, it is still a nice-looking basket, and sturdy, but I would not recommend for putting fabric items like towels, blankets or yarn into it because the slivers and wood thread-like strips would snag on them, and it doesn't seem that clean. I am wondering if I received one that wasn't finished before being sent out? But understand, I unfortunately do not live near an Ikea and had mine shipped to me, so I cannot compare mine to what is displayed at the store. You may have a different experience with yours.
Also note, I bought the Tolkning bench which was in much better condition.

Simi Gauba and Kristin Pfannenschmidt are two of our product developers who are based in Vietnam and work a lot with natural fibers. “When we created TOLKNING, we got help from skilled artisans who know the strengths and weaknesses of the material,” says Simi. “Without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer these products to our customers.”

What is rattan?
Rattan is a strong yet lightweight and flexible material made from the rattan plant’s stem. It can be used both whole and split into thinner materials that are braided into things like furniture and baskets. Rattan belongs to the palm family and climbs along trees, though no trees are required to be felled when the rattan cane is harvested. Since it is a natural material and the products are often handmade by skilled craftspeople, each object gets a completely unique look.
