Buy if you like a challenge!KelliI read the reviews detailing the perils of assembling this contraption, and then I decided I’d buy it anyway to prove everyone wrong. I failed at that.
At first, it seemed simple. Poles. Line up holes. Insert screws. It is a challenge to align screws to threads on a circular surface, but I’ve adjusted many student desks so I was prepared for that. Keeping the first two supports hooked while tightening the screws wasn’t easy, but didn’t make me scream.
However, once I started with poles three and four, that’s where the trouble started. Getting the last screw threaded took 25 minutes. I stripped the screw, and nearly stripped a second. I highly suggest pulling the hooked part up through to the top to tighten since that’s where it’ll end up anyway. I also suggest a short screwdriver- the kind that fits in your palm.
In the end, I clocked myself at one hour and twenty minutes to assemble this toy tent, but that also included several attempts from both dogs to “help”.4
10/10 Already Ordered MoreMadisonSpecifically bought this because of the reviews. It’s so simple to put together, those who struggled might need an evaluation on their cognitive abilities… thank you ikea!5
Bought this because of so many bad reviewsErickI read every single bad review, which is basically every review for this container.
Not many pieces, building the supports is pretty straightforward. The fabric part, yeah, it's a headache. Nothing wants to stay put while you try to install the cross supports. It falls over, the pieces slip out of alignment, it's not pleasant.
However, I was still able to build it in less than 30 minutes, with all pieces in their proper location.
After you get the upright supports into the fabric, be sure that the cross supports are in the proper orientation, or the frame will fight you every step of the way.
Also make sure you pay attention to how the fabric is orientated because there are holes on 2 sides of the container.
It could be better, but nowhere near the degree of difficulty that 75% of the reviewers claim.
Once built, its a great addition to a playroom.5
ABSOLUTELY NOTRikkiWhat in the absolute world was this assembly… I’ve still yet to get it together, holes don’t align, can’t get brackets placed. Step by step is helpful if the screws / brackets actually went in!!!!!!1
Love it!DianeI got this for storing my baby's toys. Assembly isn't easy but doable! There is a step missing towards the end so I had to redo it. I also wish the bottom level had a shelf, it's bare. Please add another shelf or give the option to do so.4
DO NOT BUY THISRachelI have assembled countless beds, shelves, dressers, chairs, cabinets, kids kitchens etc over the years from IKEA and nothing has come close to how difficult this has been to attempt to assemble. Do not buy this unless you want to experience a mental breakdown. This is not a simple toy tent, this is a torture device. I will be returning half assembled if I don’t throw it out of my window from rage first. 1
long assembly, good dealKatelynThis is a great toy storage organizer, kids love putting their things in it. Yes it takes a while to put together, maybe 20 minutes, and you should use an electric screwdriver. But it comes together fine in the end. I wouldn't let the bad reviews stop you from buying it.4
DO NOT BUY AT ALL COSTSJackWorst assembly process I’ve ever seen. Screws have lock tight on them so I stripped the screws trying to unscrew them per the instructions to add metal bar. Ended up trashing. Not worth $15 of my time to drive an hour to IKEA to return.
DO NOT BUY !!!!!1
ImpossibleKellyThis was the hardest thing I’ve ever put together from IKEA. The instructions are awful, per usual, and I forgot to put a piece in but there was no way I was going to take it apart and put it back together again. 3
Poles and screws and cross bar not includedJonCame home and found no screws and no poles and no bottom shelf cross bar. terrible. will be returning and not wasting anymore time.1
Very disappointed — impossible to assembleJosieUnfortunately, I never even got the chance to use this product. The screws did not seem to match the parts they were supposed to fit, and the assembly process was extremely difficult. Despite following the instructions carefully, I could not get it put together and eventually had to give up. Very disappointed and would not recommend.1
DO NOT BUYStephenOnly one of the two corrugated plastic for the shelves fits. The larger one does not fit in the middle. The screws won’t tighten all the way. They are too long for the holes. The whole assembly is wobbly as a result. Do not buy.1
I didn't find it complete inside the box.ZahraaI bought this piece, and when I got home and opened the box, I only found the poles, and I didn't find the beige-colored mesh. What is the reason? Is there another piece I need to buy?5
So annoying to put togetherMariaThis doesn’t have to be this way! Why? A couple of Velcro thingies to attach the fabric to the frame and that would be a 2 minute assembly, instead you have to deal with this mega slippery fabric, metal frame constantly collapsing etc.. returning this1
Great Marriage Retreat Patience Project. HaroldThis was one of the items for my First Online IKEA order to outfit our tiny 8x20 steel cottage that we share with Six Little "TigerFinks" (2tigerstripecats) 2 tuexedo and two fluffy catz it is true that catz rule their care providers. MeYe wife opened the shipment and saw cuteness as cat hotel or cat tower. She started assembly, We have 1 more to put together. The directions were interesting and actually worked, need to read them more than once. again it was interesting event assembling it. We will see if we can assemble the next one on a hard surface. My wife went and found a small IKEA cart we forgot to assemble... So that is next. Summary... As a Couples Marriage Patience Project it is a 12 on a 10 scale. Read the other reviews as I did before I bought Two of these. Harold and Anisa Near the Georgia Florida Line4
So irritating to put togetherAlexandraSuch a simple product but awful to put together. Wish I hadn’t bothered it’s that annoying! Seems unnecessarily fiddly.1
Hard AssemblyJenniferThis is such a useful product. However, the assembly is terrible. The instructions need to be updated or manufacturing needs to change to make this simpler. I had to toss it after step 2.2
Surprisingly Study and Perfect for CatsSethWhen we initially bought it we forgot the assembly parts but went back to buy them with no issue. A little more notice that there was second parts probably should have been present, the way it was laid out in the store we definitely did not notice. A slight challenge to set up, but worth it!
Originally we intended to buy it for just storing toys, but our cats wound up loving it more than any actual cat tower we have bought for them so we let them have it. It's held out surprisingly well despite our cats insisting on scratching up the mesh on the corners, it's still held up VERY well against 5 cats for an entire year and is still standing and used. We love it enough and it was affordable that we definitely want to buy more and back ups for as long as it continues to keep our cats occupied and their toys well stored.5
Great once you figure out how to put it togetherJoshAssembled product is a 5/5. Assembly process is a 1/5. I think I'm great at putting ikea furniture together but what makes this difficult is that the nails all go in at an angle and because it all happens with the rods inside the fabric, it's very difficult to stabilize since the fabric doesn't stretch.3
Difficult To Build - Great Toy StorageSuzanneI just purchased and assembled this tent toy storage. A few years ago I bought the aqua blue version. The first one was a challenge to assemble and this one was too but I remembered previous troubleshooting well enough to not suffer too badly assembling this one. I have built most Ikea furniture including shelves and several carts. This one seemed the most difficult. It requires good attention to the details of the drawings and following the orientation of parts. And also just trusting that the plastic shelf supports WILL fit in the sleeves. Remember to barely screw in the included 8 screws until the bar supports are hooked into place and then tighten. My previous model has held up well and the lower section has even supported the weight of a toddler crawling inside. Love the color of this newer one. I recommend it, but I but good luck assembling.5
