Malin and her colleagues dug deep into coffee and tea cultures to find out what tools people feel they can’t live without. They talked to specialists and investigated living, eating and drinking habits. “We wanted to develop items that make a difference, so we’ve focused on a few, but carefully selected products,” she states. The team cooperated with IKEA Test Lab in Älmhult, Sweden. It’s an IKEA version of a James Bond lab where prototypes are inspected and evaluated. “A couple of the things we checked were that the thermoses can keep fluids really warm for a long time. And that the glass mugs and glass pots are durable and comfortable, even though they look and feel light and airy,” says Malin.

Workhorse container, Lid not so good...Anonymous reviewerWe have been using these flasks in our B&B for over 10 years. Three flasks--actually the older, smaller plastic body model--have been in service all that time, still keep liquids hot or cold and have their original lids. The current, bright steel body model is larger and more attractive. However, there is a design/manufacturing quality glitch in the closure. On four of the metal flasks we have purchased in the past 5-6 years, the handles have broken due to the inadequate thickness of the pivot pins on the unseen end of the handle where it manipulates the valve. In addition, since there are no grip indentations on the top of the lid, it is necessary to use the handle as a lever when tightening and loosening the lid. That exerts significant stress onto those wimpy pivot pins. Come on, IKEA, this is a simple fix--design and build a better lid--give it grip indentations and a beefier handle. Until that happens, at least make available replacement lids so that we can continue to use the 4 'retired' flasks whose lids are broken. Others who have reviewed this product have listed the same problem--and I don't see any response from IKEA.
